In this New Nerd World we live in, with movies and series like Ant Man e Flash attracting a large audience, it's easy to forget where all these stories came from. But regardless of whether you're a fan of HQs e manga for a long time or just starting out in this universe, the 21st Comix Fest, which takes place from the 17th to the 19th of July in São Paulo, is perfect for you.
The event is promoted by the comic book store Comix and that's why it has a large area for selling graphic novels and other products for a good nerd reading. Products are heavily discounted, so you can complete your collection or start a new one without breaking the bank – but with so many options, it's hard not to get excited. Other stores also have booths on site, and you can even find old magazines in the classic “formatinho” used until the mid-2000s.
And not just from DC e Marvel the geek lives: Brazilian designers and writers are also at the fair, with a special area to exhibit their works. Books by a series of Brazilian authors are for sale, such as the cartoonists Will Leite, from Will Pulling, and Carlos Ruas, from Any Saturday.
In addition to buying the comics, visitors will also be able to meet the authors at autograph sessions. This Friday, the first day of the Fest Comix, authors and writers from Graphic MSP were present, which launched special graphic novels based on characters by Maurício de Sousa, such as Vitor and Lu Cafaggi, Eduardo Damasceno and Luis Felipe Garrocho, and Paulo Cumbrim and Cristina Eiko. But one of the biggest attractions came from afar. Nobuhiro Watsuki, author of the renowned manga Rurouni Kenshin, known as Samurai X in the West, will make his first visit to Brazil, along with his wife and also a successful manga author, Kaworu Kurosaki. Nobuhiro will participate in two autograph sessions on the 18th and 19th.
Another fun at comics fairs, cosplay – short for costume play, when fans dress up as their favorite characters, whether from comics, movies or games – will have a special space at the show. Fest Comix, with a championship that will give prizes of up to 500 reais to the winners. On Friday, there was already a “warm up”, anticipating what is to come during the weekend.
And for those who just want to relax, the stands at Saga School and JBC Publisher will also have games available, such as Just Dance or Mario Kart.
