Curitiba, Goiânia and Salvador begin to receive the 5G starting this Tuesday (16), according to a decision by Gaispi, a group that monitors the implementation of the technology in Brazil. All operators that acquired the 3,5 GHz band in the 5G tender will be able to activate stations with the new technology in the three capitals, which join Brasília (DF), Belo Horizonte (MG), João Pessoa (PB), Porto Alegre (RS) and São Paulo (SP).
With availability, residents of these municipalities with compatible cell phones will be able to access faster connections and other benefits. It is also worth mentioning that “pure” 5G operates on the same frequency used by conventional satellite dishes (Band C). Therefore, whoever has the old equipment in operation needs to change it to avoid interference when receiving the open TV signal.
What is 5G?
Many must know about the internet connection via smartphone or tablet like the old 3G or the current 4G, technologies that allow these devices to connect to the internet without the need to be in an environment with Wi-Fi, which uses a fixed internet network. O 5G is the evolution of this mobile Internet, offering even faster connections and processes. For example, it will be possible to download files, watch videos and live streams, play online games and many other things with an even more stable and faster connection.
Different types of 5G
Despite the arrival of 5G in Brazil, there are some details to be informed about the novelty. There are three types of 5G, understand how each one works.
- 5G DSS: currently applied by most operators here in Brazil, this technology marks the transition from 4G to 5G. It uses 4G frequencies so that the user has a slightly better experience;
- 5G NOS: 5G NSA technology (or Non Standalone), unlike the previous one, already uses the 5G frequency, but with a 4G network core. Here the internet frequency is also fast, but the latency is not so low;
- 5G SA: and finally, 5G SA (or Standalone) is offered through frequency and network core, both 5G. The internet of this technology is quite fast and also has low latency. In addition to online games and files downloading much faster, industrial uses are also indicated.
Coverage in Curitiba, Goiânia and Salvador
Next, check out the neighborhoods that will be served by the 5G signal of each operator in the cities that gain technology coverage this Tuesday.
5G in Curitiba
TIM
A TIM is the only operator to offer 5G coverage standalone in all 75 neighborhoods of the city of Curitiba, connecting more than 85% of the population with the new technology. “We are market leaders in Curitiba since the beginning of our operation in the state. Therefore, this role in 5G is natural. We are getting ahead and delivering coverage in all neighborhoods, so that customers know all the possibilities of the new technology”, highlights the CEO of TIM Brasil, Alberto Griselli.

Other cities and extension
Gaispi also decided to recommend to Anatel's Board of Directors to extend the deadline for another 60 days for the signal to start being released in 15 other capitals. The proposal, which will still be considered by the regulatory agency's advisors, takes into account information provided by the Entity Administrator of the Strip (EAF - Siga Antenado), according to which, Florianópolis (SC); Palmas (TO); Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Vitória (ES) should be able to receive 5G by August 29.
Initially, the technology should be available in all capitals by the end of September, but, according to Anatel, it may be necessary to extend the deadline to allow the completion of actions to vacate the 3,5 GHz band and resolve possible interference in reception. of Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) stations.
In practice, if Anatel's Board of Directors approves Gaispi's suggestion, until October 28, the 3,5 GHz band must be available, free of interference, in Aracaju, Belém, Boa Vista, Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Fortaleza, Macapá, Maceió, Manaus, Natal, Porto Velho, Recife, Rio Branco, São Luís and Teresina. With this, companies would have until November 27 to activate the service.
Also according to Anatel, the next cities to receive the 5G signal are: Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Florianópolis (SC), Palmas (TO) and Vitória (ES). The expectation is that these capitals will receive the news this August.
