Showmetech TRIO is a compilation of the most interesting news of the week.
Today we'll talk about some of Apple's new releases at the end of October. The company introduced a new iMac with the powerful M4 chip, the same one found in the iPad Pro launched in May. In addition, it also released the iOS 18.1 update, with features from Apple Intelligence, Apple's artificial intelligence platform.
Check out all the details, prices and availability in Brazil, right now.
iMac with M4 chip
Starting with the new PC all-in-one from the Cupertino company, the iMac 2024 arrives with an M4 processor, first seen in May this year in the iPad Pro.
Apple promises that this processor delivers up to 1,7x faster performance on everyday tasks and 2,1x faster performance on more demanding tasks, such as photo editing and gaming, compared to the previously released iMac. The model also supports the Apple Intelligence platform.
The M4 chip has an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, or 10-core CPU with 10-core GPU, both with a 16-core Neural Engine. It works with 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of storage.
The new iMac hits the market with up to four Thunderbolt 4 connections to transfer data at high speeds, depending on the version, allowing you to connect extra storage drives, docks and up to two external 6K monitors. The computer also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Despite being an update, Apple chose to keep the 24-inch Retina display with 4,5K resolution, but now this screen has a layer of glass, called nanotexture. This new feature reduces reflections in brightly lit areas so you can work without interference that could disrupt your final delivery.
Additionally, the iMac with M4 hits the market with a 12 MP webcam with DeskView support, which allows you to use your iPhone as a webcam if necessary. The model also has three microphones so that your video calls have the best possible quality.
It will be possible to buy the new iMac in the colors yellow, blue, pink, purple, silver, green and orange. Prices vary depending on the configuration chosen on Apple's website, but the simplest version costs R$15.499.
The iMac 2024 is now available for pre-order at Apple website and the company informs that shipments will begin on November 8th.
iOS 18.1 release
Available to anyone who owns an iPhone XS or newer, iOS 18.1 has finally been released after being in beta for almost a month.
Among the new features, whoever has the iOS 18.1 has access to a new control center, in addition to the function that allows you to leave icons in standardized tones that now also applies the new effects to the home screen widgets.
A native tool for recording phone calls is also present in Apple's new operating system. iPhone Mirroring mode, which allows you to quickly transfer files between your device and a Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later, is also in the new features released today.
Finally, Apple has finally opened up the iPhone to Apple Pay competitors as a way to allow other digital wallets to be used by users. This makes the use of Apple Wallet optional, rather than mandatory.
Anyone who wants to use the new features and has a device compatible with iOS 18.1 can now update. To do so, simply access the Settings, then click on General.
By clicking on Update, you will see the new version available for download and installation. We remind you that it is always worth backing up your data so that nothing is lost in the event of an error. We have already taught you how to do this in a complete matter, be sure to check it out.
Apple Intelligence Launch
With the release of iOS 18.1, anyone with an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or one of the new iPhone 16s released this year can take advantage of these features. On the iMac, it will first arrive in macOS Sequoia 15.1 in English and will have ChatGPT integration starting in December. Owners of the iPad Pro and iPad Air will also receive access to Apple Intelligence.
Among the new features, it will be possible to access writing tools through the functionality Rewrite, in different intonations and different applications, such as Notepad and Slides.
Siri finally has a more natural conversational feel. In this first version of Apple Intelligence, it can understand commands even if there are mistakes in diction, and it can also teach you how to use some of the system's features, such as taking a screenshot.
Speaking of the Priority function, notifications will be organized in order of priority. There is also a feature that creates summaries of what you receive, without the need to open them.
And we have Stay Focus, which keeps the operating system free from interruptions, ideal for those moments when you need to focus on a task.
Rounding out the new features is a feature for transcribing and summarizing voice recordings. The feature can also be used in voice calls, with summaries being created in threads as soon as the call hangs up.
After a long wait, iOS users finally have a native tool to erase intruders from photos taken on their iPhones. Called Clean Up, now you just need to click on what needs to be deleted so that the photos are clean and ready to be posted wherever you want.
The iPhone's Photos app has also gained search capabilities. Simply describe, through text commands, what the photo or video you want looks like and wait for the operating system to do the search.
Another new feature is the Memories function, which can create more creative videos after a quick selection. It will be interesting to use this on trips and special moments.
At first, Apple Intelligence was released with only a few features. By December of this year, data processing aimed at improving user privacy and optimizing emoji creation will be released.
It is worth remembering that, for now, the AI platform is only available in English. An update in Portuguese has been confirmed by Apple for 2025, but a specific date has not been mentioned. We will follow closely.
