Elon Musk, known for leading innovative companies such as Tesla e SpaceX, invested heavily in the return of Donald Trump to power. He contributed more than $130 million to the Republican's campaign and to other strategic party contests in the legislative elections. This support resulted in great visibility for Musk, which can now count on a powerful ally in the White House, interested in reducing regulations and expanding incentives for the private sector.

With Trump's victory, Musk not only cemented his influence in the political arena, but also saw an immediate impact on the markets. The company's shares Tesla rose by up to 15% shortly after the result was confirmed. Now, Musk has been appointed to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, where he will be responsible for cutting public spending and streamlining bureaucracy. This appointment not only strengthens the alliance between the two, but also highlights the importance of the private sector in the new administration's political agenda, allowing the businessman to directly influence government policies.

The new Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was created to reduce government spending and streamline government bureaucracy in the United States. Under the leadership of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the department will seek to identify and eliminate unnecessary expenses, restructure federal agencies, and reduce excessive regulations that hinder government efficiency. According to Trump, DOGE's main mission is to promote a leaner and more efficient administration that can respond quickly to citizens' needs without wasting resources.

Musk and Ramaswamy will serve primarily as outside consultants, providing guidance and strategy to the White House and other executive departments. They will provide insights innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives to restructure the functioning of government, drawing on their experiences in the private sector. Despite high expectations, there are still doubts about the ability to implement the promised changes, given the complexity and internal resistance of the government bureaucracy. Transparency and effectiveness will be crucial to the success of DOGE.

“All of the Office of Government Efficiency’s actions will be published online for maximum transparency. Any time the public thinks we’re cutting something important or not cutting something unnecessary, just let us know! We’ll also have a leaderboard for the most insanely stupid spending of your tax dollars. This will be extremely tragic and extremely entertaining.”

The political alliance between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, reinforced by this appointment, promises significant transformations. However, the involvement of the businessman, who already manages several companies, including SpaceX, raises questions about potential conflicts of interest and their day-to-day role in the department. The effectiveness of the DOGE and the ability of Musk and Ramaswamy to carry out the proposed radical changes will be closely watched by both supporters and critics.

Conflicts of Interest and Institutional Issues

the appointment of Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) raises significant concerns about conflicts of interest and institutional issues. Musk, who already runs several companies, has massive government contracts that could influence his decisions in the new role. The businessman's presence in government could create an overlap between his business interests and his public responsibilities, raising questions about the impartiality of his actions. In addition, the acronym for the department, DOGE, is a direct reference to a cryptocurrency that Musk frequently promotes, which can be seen as a move to benefit their own financial interests.

From an institutional perspective, Musk’s appointment also raises questions about the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed reforms. The complexity of government bureaucracy and internal resistance to change are significant challenges that could limit DOGE’s ability to implement substantive reforms.

The role of Vivek Ramaswamy

Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotechnology investor and entrepreneur, was also named to share leadership of the new Department of Government Efficiency alongside Elon Musk. Ramaswamy, son of immigrants and nicknamed “new Trump” during the Republican Party primaries, brings a bold, reformist perspective to the department.

Operation of the DOGE is still uncertain, but it is certain that the department's effectiveness will depend on its ability to Ramaswamy navigating the complexities of government bureaucracy and implementing the proposed reforms. However, whether Congress will accept these changes, even with a Republican majority, remains an open question, especially considering the magnitude of the proposed reforms.

Ramaswamy has already demonstrated its willingness for radical change by proposing significant cuts in government, including elimination of a million jobs and the dissolution of the FBI during his Republican primary campaign. His aggressive approach and his partnership with Musk indicate an attempt to bring a business mindset to public administration. However, implementing these ideas will face significant challenges, both in terms of practical feasibility and political resistance.

the elected president Donald Trump also appointed Pete Hegseth, a Fox News journalist and veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as the next defense secretary. Hegseth, who currently hosts a Saturday talk show, will take over leadership of the Pentagon, commanding 1,3 million active-duty U.S. troops. Despite his military experience, Hegseth’s appointment surprised many given his lack of experience in high-level government positions. Trump has praised Hegseth as a patriotic advocate of the “Peace Through Strength” policy, but the choice has raised concerns about Hegseth’s ability to manage the United States’ complex defense apparatus.

Besides Hegseth, Trump also chose John ratcliffe to head the CIA. Ratcliffe, who served as director of national intelligence during Trump’s first term, is known for releasing controversial information about Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election. As head of the CIA, Ratcliffe will have the power to appoint senior spies abroad and conduct covert operations, significantly increasing his influence. His appointment has been met with skepticism by some, who question his ability to maintain the agency’s impartiality and integrity.

For the position of National Security Advisor, Trump appointed the deputy Michael Waltz. Waltz, a veteran of the Army and National Guard, brings extensive experience in national security and defense. He is known for his strong stances against China and for advocating a strong foreign policy.
