Roberto Campos Net, President of Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN), took the stage to talk about the success of Pix and how the partnership with Google has been essential for more and more people to have a safer daily life. He highlighted that companies like Google have been essential for the modernization process to become increasingly successful.

BACEN is standardizing online and even offline payment solutions with NFC technology, so that this payment method can be supported by the largest number of financial institutions and businesses. We are moving towards an era of instant payments in several countries, such as what is already happening in Brazil with Pix. The country, in fact, is recognized as a pioneer in the digitalization of financial services.

Roberto Campos Net, President of the Central Bank of Brazil (BACEN)

Campos Neto also explained that Pix, which cost R$15 million to develop, is already responsible for moving 2,5% of Brazil's GDP. He also mentions that “The existence of Pix can compensate for the lack of banking services in some regions of Brazil, overcoming the lack of bank branches and ATMs in small cities.”

Currently, the BACEN has developed a process for the integration of DREX (the Brazilian digital currency), Pix and o Open Finance so that everyone is compatible with international payment systems.

There is work being done to integrate Pix with more countries and global blocs, including the European Union. In the view of Campos Neto, these advances are even more representative than concerns about having 'common currencies': “With globally integrated instant payment systems, it becomes unnecessary to think about common currencies, as their advantages end up being surpassed by new digital means"He says.

Apple, despite allowing the registration of debit cards on Apple Wallet, does not yet have Pix integrated, something that Google Wallet has been allowed for 4 months now.
