During the traditional Made by Google, the company launched its new smartphones Pixel 8 e Pixel 8Pro, which can be considered an answer to Apple's iPhone 15 line. The devices have lenses that may be interesting for those looking for good results when capturing photos and videos, in addition to having a processor G3 tensioner which improves photos to levels not seen on devices from other brands. Check out the details right now.
screen and design
Confirming the rumors and data from the Google, the models follow a design similar to what we saw in Pixel 7 line. starting with Pixel 8, it arrives on the international market in the colors Peony Rose (pink), Gray and a black variant that took the name of Obsidian Black. The device has a 6,2-inch screen (more specifically, 6,17 inches) that is slightly smaller than the 6,3-inch display we saw on the Pixel 7.
Still about the display of the Pixel 8, it has FHD+ resolution (1080×2400), is of the OLED type, has a refresh rate of 60Hz to 120 Hz and supports HDR10+. For comparison, the Pixel 7 screen has “only” a 90Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness of this device was 2000 nits. Check out the colors:
O Pixel 8Pro will be released in colors Sky Blue (light blue), Porcelan (a shade of white) and Obsidian Black (black). The device's screen measures 6,7 inches, the same as seen on the 7 Pixel 2022 Pro. The refresh rate was 120Hz, but this model can lower this to up to 1 Hz depending on the type of media displayed for less battery drain. . With a peak brightness of 2400 nits, the brightest display ever launched by Google, see the variants:
The screen resolution of the most complete version of Google's new generation of smartphones is 2992 x 1344, on an OLED-type panel with a peak brightness of 1600 nits. As expected, both devices do not have a 2 mm P3,5 headphone jack and you will need to use a headphone with a USB-C jack or connect a Bluetooth device. The print reader sensor of the Pixel 8 line models is under the screen and they also have an ambient light sensor.
Finally, the company confirmed that the casing of the two new smartphones is made from 100% recycled aluminum.
Hardware and performance
A line pixel 8 was announced with the processor G3 tensioner, which has a four-nanometer architecture and a CPU with nine cores. It may still be too early to talk about performance, but preliminary information states that it has a Cortex-X3 core with a frequency of up to 3 GHz, four Cortex-A715 cores that go up to 2,45 GHz and four more Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 2,15GHz.
The company stated that the new processor present in the Pixel 8 line can deliver machine learning 2x faster than what we saw in the Pixel 6. Google also showed that the use of artificial intelligence has been improved to deliver a more natural conversation and there is support for reading content in more than 80 languages.
Regarding the GPU, the part responsible for the smartphone's graphics performance has “simple” ten Immortalis-G715 cores with a frequency of up to 890 MHz. The new hardware is capable of providing hardware-accelerated ray tracing and combination with encoding and decoding Samsung MFC (Multi-Format Codec) 8K up to 30fps in h.264 and HEVC formats.
The use of artificial intelligence was one of the highlights of the Made By Google event. One of the new features is the possibility of Google Assistant now functioning as a secretary, which talks to whoever is calling you before you actually speak to the person.
The functionality, which was called Call Screen, allows a summary of the call to be displayed on the screen before speaking to the person. And if an interaction is necessary, the assistant will send a message on the screen, with the reason for the call. And Call Screen will also be available on pixel watch 2, released today.
Google Assistant with Bard
The company also integrated its Bard artificial intelligence ao Google Assistant. In practice, the generative tool, which already works with the Google ecosystem, will be able to send email summaries, create paths through Google Maps and much more, just with a voice command sent by the already known Google Assistant.
The functionality can also be used for real-time activities: during the Made By Google event, a photo of a mountain with two paths was sent to Google Assistant with Bard and the tool indicated the best path for a group of people and a dog . Want to create creative captions for your dog's photo? Just send the photo and request it from Bard.
At first, the Google Assistant with Bard will be launched for the Google Pixel 8 line in December 2023, and general availability for Android users will follow. iOS users who prefer to use the Google Assistant, instead of Siri, will also be able to use the features soon.
Generative AI is creating new opportunities to build a more intuitive, intelligent and personalized digital assistant. One that goes beyond the voice, understands and adapts to you, and handles personal tasks in new ways. We think your digital assistant should make it even easier to manage items big and small on your to-do list, like planning your next trip, finding details buried in your inbox, creating a shopping list for your weekend getaway, or send a text message. . Everything like a real assistant would do.
Google on launching its new AI
Memory and internal storage
As expected, the amount of RAM and internal storage of the models varies depending on your choice. O Google Pixel 8 will be released with 8 GB of RAM and internal storage options 128 GB or 256 GB.
O Google Pixel 8 Pro will reach the international market with 12 GB of RAM and internal storage options 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB.
Cameras
Both Pixel 8, how much Pixel 8Pro, have a 50 MP wide main lens on the rear. The variant sold at a lower price also has a 12MP ultrawide with what Google called MacroFocus. The new feature debuted during the launch of the Pixel 7 line and allows the user to get close to an object without having to lose focus.
The Pixel 8 Pro can reach further through its 48 MP ultrawide lens, also with support for MacroFocus. The third 48 MP telephoto lens has 5x optical zoom for long-distance photo and video capture without the need for software and can also capture 51% more light compared to the Pixel 7Pro.
The models also have the same 10,5 MP front camera that can record videos in 4K quality at 60 or 30 fps, in addition to 1080p (FHD) at 60 or 30 fps. A comparison was made with the iPhone 15 Pro and, at least in the test shown at the event, the video with the Boost Video of the Pixel 8 Pro managed to deliver results with better contrast than the Apple model.
The Pixel 8's rear lenses reach the international market with support for 4K@30/60fps and 1080p@30/60/120/240fps video recording and the same goes for the Pixel 8 Pro. There is an optical stabilization sensor on both The models and rear lenses also have HDR support to capture more vivid colors that are closer to what we see in real life.
Special features on cameras
In addition to the new features already seen in the Pixel 7 line models, such as Magic Eraser and better recognition of skin tones other than white (Real Tone), Google announced the launch of MagicEditor, which allows not only the removal of objects and people from photos, but also the ability to reposition them, change the image setting and adjust exposure, contrast and saturation for perfect harmony. See the example in the video below:
Another novelty is the Best Take, which uses artificial intelligence to identify faces and capture multiple images. This functionality allows users, after capturing the photo, to interact with the faces of people in the image, selecting the version that best represents people's smiles and open eyes. Based on these choices, artificial intelligence takes the lead in composing the final image, ensuring that the best possible photograph is obtained. See an example of this working in practice:
The videos were not left out of the news: the device gained a special night vision content capture feature, which, using the temperature sensor in the camera, can identify people just by their temperature. You know that effect only seen in special safety equipment? Now it can also be seen in both models in the line Pixel 8.
Additionally, the “Audio Remover”, is enough to reduce unwanted background noise in a video, also through artificial intelligence. Finally, the new line features major improvements in accurate representation of skin tones in videos, something seen only in photos until the Pixel 7 line.
Another exclusive novelty from Pixel 8Pro, through the three rear lenses, is the Night Vision, which will allow you to record videos at night or in places with low natural lighting. The examples shown by Google show an improvement in lighting without the need for everything to be “too artificial”. This feature was defined as “the best for capturing content in low light on a smartphone” and will be available from December 2023, on Pixel 8 Pro. See the comparison:
