During the traditional event Made By Google 2024, brought forward to August with a focus on avoiding leaks, we were introduced to the new smartphones from GoogleDetails of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and foldable smartphone were released Pixel 9 Pro Fold. See the details and exclusive features of each one right now.
New processor
Designed by Google, but manufactured by Samsung, Tensor G4 processor reaches the four new Pixel 9 with four nanometer architecture. Preliminary data cited by the company during Made By Google 2024 states that this new chipset has a new packaging technique that, in practice, reduces heating and also reduces energy consumption.
Going into technical data, the Tensor G4 processor has a Cortex-X4 running at 3,10 GHz, three Cortex-A720 at 2,60 GHz and four Cortex-A520 at 1,95 GHz, accompanied by an ARM Mali-G715 GPU with clocked at 940 MHz.
In contrast, the G3 tensioner, present in the Pixel 8 line, featured a Cortex-X3 at 3,00 GHz, four Cortex-A715 at 2,45 GHz and four Cortex-A510 at 2,15 GHz, with the same GPU, but at 890 MHz. Data from speed like these are more aimed at marketing and it's worth remembering that we will know the real performance of this new processor when the reviews start to come out.
Regarding connectivity, devices with this processor will be able to connect to 5G networks due to the modem Exynos 5400 5G. Another interesting detail of this modem is that it has support for connect with satellite internet, a feature seen on the iPhone 14 and 15.
In practice, this satellite connectivity can be a way of calling for help in cases of accidents and the Google will give two years free to all buyers of any of the new cell phones introduced today. However, this should only be available in the US, at least at this first moment of launch.
And it's worth remembering that the new processor has a better conversation with the Google Gemini, the great replacement for Google Assistant. Google's idea is to design a chipset for its devices and run the features in a more natural and assertive way.
The company also debuted a new Weather application, which features animations, shows weather forecasts about the person's location and also allows complete customization, with a new look. At first, the new application will only be released to buyers of the Pixel 9 line, but we will certainly see it on other devices over the next few months.
As standard, it is worth remembering that the new Pixel 9 will receive future Android updates before owners of devices from other brands. It has been confirmed that the new Pixel 9 line will receive seven years of operating system updates, going up to Android 21.
Gemini artificial intelligence
Now, Google's AI will also be able to summarize emails, help overcome creative blocks, and find information in videos from the smartphone gallery or even on the YouTube, without having to close the application.
There is also the Pixel Screenshots: It will be possible to search for specific information in screenshots taken on smartphones, either by text or voice command.
Google Gemini also gained a section just for creating images from text commands, which is called Pixel Studio.
Today there was confirmation that Google Gemini now has the ability to create a letter and send a direct email to whoever you want, whether via voice or text command. The new Pixel 9 will be the first to be launched with the new version of the Gemini Nano AI model.
The company also debuted a new Weather application, which features animations, shows weather forecasts about the person's location and also allows complete customization, with a new look. At first, the new application will only be released to buyers of the Pixel 9 line, but we will certainly see it on other devices over the next few months.
It is worth remembering that the new Pixel 9 will receive future Android updates before owners of devices from other brands. It has been confirmed that the new Pixel 9 line will receive seven years of operating system updates, going from Android 14 to Android 21.
Photo innovations
Starting with improved HDR, Google promises that a correction will be made that improves skin tones, contrast, brightness and colors.
Panorama photos are not new on Android, but Google is here to change this scenario by allowing wider photos to be captured in this mode, now with greater assertiveness and also at night. In fact, during the event, the lenses of a Pixel 9 Pro XL showed better results than an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Check it out:
The company confirms the return of Best Take, which can correct faces in photos so that everyone is looking at the lens. AI now allows the user to choose a face position in photos, so that all photos are not the same. See the example:
Already talking about the mode Add Me, artificial intelligence will unify two photos into just one, via augmented reality. It is necessary to take two captures to receive just one photo. See the example:
Through Magic Eraser, which debuted in 2021, it will now be possible to reimagine photos taken by smartphones. In the example shown by Google at its event, a garden photo was edited to be a sunflower garden, in less than 10 seconds. Look:
There is also the Made You Look: This feature was designed to run on the external screen of Google's foldable smartphone and will include animations to attract children's attention so you can take a good photo. See an example:
Two other features were presented with an exclusive focus on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold:
- Dual screen preview: you can see the results of the photos on the split screen.
- Rear camera selfies: it will be possible to take selfies with the rear camera, seeing the result on the external screen.
Video innovations
With Dual Exposure, it will be possible to use two lenses at the same time, one lighter and one darker, to create content in the end.
Already with Video Boost with night sight, videos made at night will receive an improvement via AI in rendering, which is now twice as fast. And the telephoto camera present in the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixe 9 Pro XL smartphones can capture images at up to 20x zoom.
A technology already seen on smart TVs is now reaching Google smartphones: via artificial intelligence, the resolution of videos can be converted from 4K to 8K, and it is also possible to extract photos of this content through the Gallery. Finally, Google states that the Pixel 9 Pro with video boost fhi classified as the best smartphone video of the moment.
Now, let's get to know the smartphones launched today by Google.
Google Pixel 9
Considered the entry model of the new line of smartphones Google, the model was redesigned to have squarer edges and stands out for being smaller, an option for those who don't like devices with such large screens. Let's look at the details.
Design
The traditional Pixel 9 is 8,7 millimeters thick and will be launched in four colors: black, white, pink and green. The device arrives with more rounded edges and a new arrangement of cameras on the rear to house the new lenses.
The fingerprint reader, still under the screen, has been renewed for new ultrasonic technology. In your daily life, you will be able to unlock the screen even if your finger is wet or oily, and it will be 2x faster. The device also has IP68 protection, which guarantees operation if it is immersed in seas and rivers up to 1,5 meters or if dust enters it.
Fabric
The Pixel 9 has a 6,3 inch OLED display with technology Super Actua display, variable refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz and support for HDR10+.
Besides FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2424), there is Gorilla Glass Victus protection in this model. Brightness is high, but below more premium models: 1.800 nits for HDR content with a peak of 2.700 nits.
Memory and storage
Following the pattern of past launches, those who live in the USA or choose to import can choose between two internal storage options: 128 GB or 256 GB. All variants hit the market with 12 GB of RAM and support for the virtual RAM feature, delivering up to 24 GB of RAM for better performance.
Connectivity
Your processedr G4 Tensor allows the smartphone of the Google connect with 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 networks and via satellite networks. A Bluetooth 5.3 antenna is on the device. There is an NFC sensor and a set of three microphones for noise reduction, as well as stereo sound.
Battery and charging
There was a small battery gain: now, the Pixel 9 has a 4.700 mAh battery (for comparison, the traditional Pixel 8 has 4500 mAh). This should be enough for the device to work for a whole day, even more so with the processor being more economical, delivering 20% more usage compared to the previous generation.
About charging: the model supports 27W wired or 15W wireless charging. Google points out that 50% of the battery can be recharged in just 30 minutes. Another piece of information is that the device does not support reverse charging.
Cameras
The main wide camera is 50 MP. At the rear, there is also a 48 MP ultrawide and macro lens and an LED flash for capturing content. The model comes with support for recording videos in 4K resolution at 24, 30 or 60 fps, in addition to recording in 1080p at 30 or 60 fps.
Google highlights automatic HDR in photos, in addition to post-processing that should place the model on the list of best smartphones for photography in the world. The Pixel 9's front lens is 10,5 MP and also records videos in 4K or 1080p resolution at the same frame rates as the cameras on the rear.
An interesting feature present in this and other models launched today is Add Me: via artificial intelligence, it will be possible to be placed in photos, in a very natural way.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Previously called the Google Pixel Fold 2, but officially known as the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the second foldable smartphone was introduced to the world. The device is now thinner and the space between the screens is also smaller.
Design
Compared to the first model released in 2023, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has been completely redesigned. Now, it has squarer edges and is flatter when it is open, in addition to only having two colors: black and white.
Its hinge has also been renewed compared to the previous generation so that it is flatter when opened. When folded, the device is 10,5 mm thick. When unfolded, this drops to 5,5 mm.
The official weight of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 259 grams, slightly higher than other models in the same category: the Galaxy Z Fold6 weighs 239 grams, while the Honor Magic V2 weighs 231 grams.
The device is also IPX8 rated, water resistant in up to 1,5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
Fabric
Talking about the larger screen, it is also of the OLED type and measures 8,02 inches, has FHD+ resolution (2076 x 2152) and a refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz, in addition to a peak brightness of 2.700 nits.
The external screen of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 6,2 inches and is OLED in addition to having a refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz, FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2424) and peak brightness of 2.700 nits. Another piece of information is that both the external and internal screens support the HDR+ filter.
Memory and storage
Going against competitors like Samsung and Motorola, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will hit the market with only two internal storage options: 256 GB or 512 GB. The model will also have only one RAM option: 16 GB to run all applications fully.
Connectivity
The device has a Bluetooth 5.4 antenna to connect with other wireless devices, support for 5G networks, Wi-Fi 7 and connection to satellites, offered free of charge.
Battery and charging
The model has a 4.650 mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries among foldable smartphones currently available. The record is held by Xiaomi MIX Flip, which reached 4.780 mAh.
Charging for the wired model is 45W and here, we will not have support for reverse charging. Wireless charging was 23W, the same as what we saw on the Pixel 9 Pro XL. A power source will be sent to buyers.
Cameras
Closing the details, the camera set has undergone a major change: now on the rear, there is a 64 MP main lens, compared to the original's 48 MP, as well as an updated 10 MP ultrawide/macro. The device's telephoto lens is 10,8 MP and we have to see how this will perform in practice.
The device records videos in 4K quality at a maximum of 30 fps, with videos recorded in 8K being exclusive to the traditional Pro variants. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold also records in 1080p at up to 30/60/120/240fps.
The two front cameras, both the external screen and the internal screen, have 10 MP. But on the larger screen, Google repositioned the lens to the center of the screen, so that the model can have a greater field of vision.
