Explaining the case
Jon Bon Jovi, a rock singer known for dozens of hits, was recognized as a hero after intervening to help a woman who was about to commit suicide in Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, in Nashville, last Tuesday (10). The musician was recording a music video on the bridge when he and a production assistant noticed a woman standing on the edge.
Images of the incident, which were briefly posted on YouTube — some of these recordings have even been removed from the platform — showed the assistant starting a conversation with the woman holding the handrail while standing on the edge of the bridge. The footage also captured people walking past her, as well as members of the crew. Bon Jovi organizing the camera equipment.
As the conversation unfolded, Bon Jovi slowly approached and, calm way, waved at the woman, starting to talk to her. In a moment of tension, the woman turned to face him and his assistant. Shortly after, the musician helped the woman back to the safe side of the bridge, and then wrapped her in a hug. Minutes later, footage shows Bon Jovi leaving the bridge alongside her.
Together with his wife, Dorothea, Bon Jovi is the founder of JBJ Soul Foundation, which often helps people in crisis situations, from hunger to homelessness. According to the newspaper The Tennessean, Bon Jovi received training to dealing with individuals in difficult situations.
A representative for Bon Jovi said the singer will not comment on the incident.
