After a series of leaks in the first week of January, the Nintendo finally made official the Nintendo Switch 2 as its next console. In a video lasting just over two minutes, the company showed details and even gave a spoiler about the launch game of its new video game. Let's take a closer look.

New Joycons

Big change requested by fans Nintendo, the company confirmed that it has redesigned the controls for the Nintendo Switch 2. A big complaint from the community was the problem of drift, a gap in the analog stick of the Joycons which allowed characters to move on their own, even without an order given by the players.

In addition to the controls being larger compared to the first generation, a button below the key Home was noticed, but it is not yet known what its purpose will be. It will probably be a shortcut button. It was also possible to notice that the controls will be fitted to the NS2 through a magnetic fitting, leaving aside the mechanical fittings in the first generation.

With the new console Nintendo, an animation also showed that it will be possible to use the controls as if they were a mouse, however, it is not yet known what the real use of this will be in everyday life. For now, we will wait for more official information.

bigger screen

A big question that still revolves around the Nintendo Switch 2 is the type of screen chosen by Big N: While some rumors suggest that the company has opted for an LCD screen, which is more affordable, there is also speculation that the OLED screen, which features more realistic black tones, will be on the new console. The answer is: we don't know yet.

However, when watching the video, the screen support appears to be quite flexible and is quite similar to what we saw in the Nintendo OLED Switch. Stronger rumors indicate that the new video game from Nintendo would have an 8,4-inch screen, with a 60Hz refresh rate and possible support for 4K resolution when connected to the dock.

Backwards compatibility

Another detail confirmed by Nintendo in the video posted today is that “some games” developed for the first Nintendo Switch (Check out our list of some of the best games ever released) will be able to run on the new console, but it is not yet clear which ones these would be. At the end of the video, a message about this exact subject is displayed, showing that:

Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital games released for the original Nintendo Switch. Some games may not be compatible or fully backward compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. More details will be released on Nintendo’s website at a later date.

Backward compatibility of Nintendo's new console had already been confirmed by the company before the model was even officially announced, but this detail of “some games” was only mentioned now. Let's wait for more information to find out how this will work in practice.

Price and availability

More information will be released by Nintendo on April 02th 2025, in your next Nintendo Direct. In today's same video, scenes from a new chapter of Mario Kart series were shown, implying that the launch game of the Nintendo Switch 2 will it really be the Mario barth 9, as has been speculated for some months now.

The price of the new Nintendo Switch has not been revealed either, but some leaks suggest that the Nintendo is thinking of selling its new console for between $399 and $449, something between R$2.422 and R$2.725 in direct conversion to the price in reais. For comparison purposes, in 2017, the Nintendo Switch was launched in Brazil for R$2.699. Therefore, we believe that the Switch 2 could arrive in Brazil costing around R$3.500 to R$4.000.
