At an event held in the city of São Paulo, Samsung invited journalists and influencers to see the new Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A16 5G. The models are extremely similar and their big difference is in connectivity, with both already available for purchase in the Brazilian market. Find out more.
Design and canvas
Starting with the design, both the Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A16 5G were launched in Brazil in Black, Green and Gray, with an official weight of 200 grams and a thickness of 7,9 millimeters. The models, despite being aimed at the entry-level category, are resistant to water splashes and sealed to prevent the entry of dust grains through IP54 certification.
The fingerprint reader is located on the power button, below the volume buttons. The models do not have a P2 headphone jack, so you will need to use the USB-C connection if you want to listen to music wired.
The screen of the models also does not change between versions: both have a 6,7″ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 800 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is 88,9%.
Processor
In order to offer two connectivity options, Samsung decided to put two different processors in the new smartphones launched today. The Galaxy A16 LTEc (with support only for 4G) arrives on the Brazilian market with the MediaTek Helio G99, with six-nanometer architecture and a maximum clock speed of up to 2.2GHz, which is also the same processor as the traditional Galaxy A15 launched in 2023.
Moving on to the Galaxy A16 5G, Samsung opted for the Exynos 1330 processor manufactured in-house with five-nanometer architecture. This chipset has a maximum clock speed of 2,4 GHz. Interestingly, a version of the Exynos 1330 is present in the Galaxy A14 5G, but there is the version with seven-nanometer architecture.
System and interface
Returning to the similarities, Samsung's new smartphones hit the market with Android 14 (via One UI 6.1) from day one. The company stressed that these models were “built to last” and proof of this is that they will be updated for six years, going up to Android 20 (until 2030).
The models will also receive six years of security updates so users can keep their data safe until 2030. Both new Galaxy A models also support the service. galaxy padlock, which allows remote blocking in case of theft or robbery of devices.
For the launch of the new cell phones, the company prepared a promotion with 1-year protection plans, in ten installments of R$3,99 or a single installment of R$39,90, and 2 years of protection with a discount, in ten installments of R$5,99 or a single installment of R$59,90.
Memory and storage
It will be possible to buy the Galaxy A16 or Galaxy A16 in two storage and RAM options: 128 GB + 4 GB of RAM or 256 GB + 8 GB of RAM. The internal memory can be expanded by inserting a microSD card of up to 1 TB.
Battery and charging
The smartphone's battery has a capacity of 5.000 mAh, which Samsung classifies as "sufficient" for an entire day. The company sends a USB-C cable in the box and a 15W power source, which is the maximum capacity for wired charging.
Cameras
Rounding out the details, the models also feature the same set of cameras: a 50 MP wide-angle main lens, a 5 MP ultrawide lens for capturing wider angles, and a 2 MP macro sensor for capturing depth. In terms of video, the rear cameras record content in FHD (1080p) quality at 30 frames per second.
The lens for selfies and video calls can take photos in up to 13 MP, with support for mode Bokeh (blurred background). The lens on the front also records videos in FHD quality (1080p) at 30 frames per second.
Samsung claims that the devices can deliver great photos even in low-light environments, so if this is confirmed, the new Galaxy A has everything to be devices with great value for money.
