Sony launches 30th anniversary edition of PlayStation

To celebrate 30 years of PlayStation, Sony has announced some new products, aimed at collectors, that will stir the nostalgia of any fan of the brand. There are five new products and below you can check out each one of them.

PlayStation 30th Anniversary Special

Nicknamed PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, this special focuses on bringing a complete collection of current consoles and accessories, all customized in a retro way, similar to the first design of the PlayStation 1.

10 years ago, celebrating 20 years of PlayStation, PlayStation 4 also received a special retro version, along with the DualShock 4, a base and the PlayStation Camera of the time. Other celebratory events took place later, with game giveaways, PS4 themes, but nothing involving hardware – until then.

PlayStation 5 Slim

The first product announced was the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle. As the name suggests, this is a limited edition and a bundle. This bundle brings the digital version of the console with 1 TB of storage, a cover for the disc drive (yes, the disc drive is not included in the package), a special DualSense with the commemorative colors, a base and some commemorative items, such as:

• USB-C cable simulating the original cable of the first PlayStation
• Four cable clamps in different shapes PlayStation
• PlayStation Sticker
• Limited Edition Playstation Poster (1 of 30 different designs).
• PlayStation Paper Clip

Aesthetically, the console comes in gray, just like the PS1. There is also a detail illustrating the 30th Anniversary of PlayStation, written on the console's lid. In this version of the console, in addition to the iconic symbols square, x, ball e triangle, the number 30 was also inserted, along with the classic PS colored on the top. A texture full of symbols was also added to the inside of the console.

As to Dualense, in addition to the gray color, the button PlayStation returned to the original colors, as well as the buttons square, x, ball e triangle, now colored again. The same custom texture as the consoles was also added to the bottom of the controller.

Finally, the DualSense charging cable also harks back to the original PlayStation cable from 1994. Although it's USB-C, it has details that resemble the cable's original shape.

PlayStation 5 Pro

To take advantage of the launch of the new console, Sony announced that the new version will also feature a special edition. Called PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle, this package brings the same items as the Slim edition, but with two additional ones. It also comes with a Dual Sense Edge personalized and the Charging Station protocols for Dualense, also customized.

This special edition of For PS5 also has its own peculiarities. Just like the Slim model, there is a text engraved in the middle of the console, but here marking the unit number. This happens because there will be a limited number of 12.300 units, representing the day and month of the first release. PlayStation. The logo details resemble those of the Slim version, with the difference that, instead of symbols, we have text “PlayStation 30th Anniversary".

O Dual Sense Edge included in the package also has some special features. In addition to the changes highlighted in the conventional model, this version of the controller will have the touchpad detailed with symbols PlayStation, as well as the same details engraved on the triggers R2 e L2.

Following the same design logic, a playstation portal special was also announced. Called PlayStation Portal Remote Player – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (standalone), it features the brand's classic colors, as well as textured details on the back.

Price and availability

Although they are being released in bundles, the special editions of DualSense, DualSense Edge e playstation portal can be purchased separately. Starting September 26th, pre-sale of the following products will be available:

• PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle   
• PlayStation Portal Remote Player – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (standalone) 
• DualSense Edge Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (standalone)  
• PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle  
• DualSense Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition (standalone)

So far, none of these products have any plans or confirmation of arrival in Brazil. In past editions, the controls were sold here, so it wouldn't be strange for it to happen again.

A Sony did not reveal details about pricing. Considering the high value at which the PlayStation 5 Pro was announced, these bundles should follow a similar path, especially since they are collector's editions.
