The game from the venerable franchise of RPGs is about to be released and here we bring you all about it. Final Fantasy XVI that you need to know about it before launch. We didn't leave one chocobo ou maybe back, so be sure to check out our early coverage of the game below!
We're almost there, just another month to wait
Not long before we can finally get our hands on the newest game in the series final Fantasy. Final Fantasy XVI arrives next day June 22, seven years after the release of Final Fantasy XV, whose problematic development cost the Square Enix a real fortune, with delays and more than one restart of the project.
The sixteenth edition of the beloved and far-off franchise promises to be one of the best games of the year, from what we've seen so far. There's a huge variety of game types to enjoy and an immersive world with a story seemingly worthy of being among the many excellent adventures that fans have been able to enjoy in previous titles in the series.
The game is run by Naoki Yoshida, responsible for the revamping of Final Fantasy XIV, the excellent MMORPG – RPG online massive game with several character classes based on classic RPGs in the series, such as dragons, gunbreakers, red mages, and more – from Square Enix. Yoshida took over the project after the online game went through many technical difficulties in several areas and almost completely failed at launch.
At that time, the second MMO in the series to be released by the company – the first was final fantasy XI, which debuted in 2002 for PC and PlayStation 2 – relied on the hard work of Yoshida and his team. Thanks to that, it was able to make a surprising comeback, undergoing a radical overhaul and becoming one of the most popular games among fans of the genre, making a strong front against giants of the category, such as World of warcraft. It recently hit the mark of 42 million subscribers around the world and is in its fourth expansion.
What's going on in the game world
Final Fantasy XVI takes place in a medieval world called Enlightenment. For centuries, the people who live there have relied on the power of the enigmatic Mother Crystals, glittering mountains of crystals found in every corner of the realms of this world.
With the ether coming from these crystal formations, it is possible to conjure all kinds of magic, granting the people great comfort and wealth. The kingdoms that formed around the Mother Crystals enjoy peace, even if it is relatively fragile, since the human weakness of always wanting more and more power is also present in the game world, with the dispute over the last remnants of the sparkling crystal between the kingdoms of Rosaria e Underneath, mainly.
In the game world there are also powerful magical beings called Aicon, equivalent to summons inside the canon of final Fantasy, capable of manipulating natural elements such as fire, wind, earth and water. They grant unique abilities to your dominant. These, in turn, are the men and women who receive these monstrous gifts – or rather, a curse, who can say? – and are able to control them.
Some of the kingdoms of Enlightenment consider the dominant gifts of the gods, admiring their elemental ability and the power that comes from it. In contrast, other countries treat them as outcasts, forcing dominant to serve their wills like true living weapons, put into forced service during wars, without any shame.
A minority of the people of this world, called Carriers, is able to use magic without the aid of Mother Crystals, and live according to the customs of their respective kingdoms, as well as the dominant. That's because the vast majority of the population is only able to use magic with the use of crystals to do so.
To make things worse, there is the arrival of the Plague, a mysterious evil that starts to afflict the population, threatening everyone without any distinction. Throwing in this ingredient and mixing it with the already unstable political situation in Enlightenment, a conflict to shatter this fragile peace between the kings is almost guaranteed.
That's where the game starts.
Game characters and the course of their lives
Final Fantasy XVI tells a story that unfolds through various points in the game's timeline. We will see remarkable events in the lives of its protagonists and antagonists at different points in the chronology, events that in turn will forge the personality and character of each one of them.
Coming from the kingdom of Rosaria, Clive Rosfield, the main character, is the son of the archduke of the country, whose existence is threatened by the Plague. Everyone expected him to be the heir to the flames of Phoenix, one of Aicon and thereby become your Dominant. However, his younger brother, Joshua, ends up becoming responsible for the burden.
Such an event makes Clive Decide early in your life to dedicate yourself to the path of battle, for those who know how to find a new reason for living in it. Upon winning a tournament in his youth, he ends up being appointed protector of the flame of Phoenix, becoming the First Shield of Rosaria, which allows you to use part of your elemental power. A tragic encounter with Ifrit, other Eikon, completely changes the course of his life, transforming him into a man whose life goal is to plot a bloody journey in search of revenge.
Joshua, the younger brother of Clive for five years, awakened to her role as Dominant soon after birth. The opposite of his older brother in virtually every respect, Joshua is a demure person, afraid of virtually everything around him. Even so, he is not swayed by his position of privilege in the nobility, acting with kindness towards everyone in the dukedom. He lives lamenting the mishaps of life Clive and ends up engulfed by the dramatic events that begin the story of Final Fantasy XVI.
The brothers are accompanied by the faithful dog torgal, brought as a puppy by the Duke of Rosaria from the kingdoms defeated in the war with the North. Separated from the two for a long time, he ends up finding them again grown up, becoming part of the group after the fall of the duchy and the near extinction of the Rosfield family lineage. Fierce against its enemies and tender and gentle with its masters, torgal it is a force to be reckoned with.
In its turn, Jill Warrickas well as torgal, came from the North. Brought up by the Duke of Rosaria in her childhood, she lives between Clive and Joshua like an adopted sister. Despite this, fate has plans for Jill and, as a result of dramatic events, ends up awakening its role as Dominant from the icy Eikon Shiva.
holder of control over Garuda Like yours Dominant, the cold and calculating Benedikt Harman acts as the fiery leader of the kingdom's spies Underneath, which considers the entire western continent as its own, which makes it the number one opponent of the Duchy of Rosaria. During his mission to find an alleged second Eikon with the power of fire, coincidentally the same as Clive, Benedicta finds herself forced to face figures from her past, such as Cidolfus.
O Cid from time to time Final Fantasy XVI – traditionally, there is always a character named Cid somewhere in a game series, as well as Wedge e Biggs - Cydolphus Telamon is a man of science researching a way to help those who have no choice but to live in the dead lands of Enlightenment. Works for the benefit of dominant e Carriers explored around the world. Has control over Ramuh, whose ability blossomed at some point in his mysterious past.
A rising figure in the arid republic of Dhalmekia, Hugo Kupka is the ambitious Dominant of Eikon Titan and used his newfound power to quickly climb the country's social pyramid, becoming a prominent figure both politically and militarily. At first sight, Hugo seems to be satisfied with living off what he has achieved for himself, but Benedicta o shows that not everything a man can offer the world is material.
Feared by his enemies and worshiped as a deity reincarnated in human form by the people of his home, the wealthy Holy Empire of Sanbreque, Dion Lesage is an dragon, winged knight of dragons, the traditional character class within the universe of final Fantasy. Even with all this adoration and power, it is quite possible that I will not be able, even with the light of Bahamut, to contain the threat that little by little takes control of his beloved empire.
And last, but by no means the least important character, is Barnabas Tharmr, a knight who literally started from scratch in the gray back de Enlightenment until reaching the highest rank of power within the kingdom of Underneath. Feared by the beastmen of the region, barnades used your Eikon, Odin, to tame them by taking the entire eastern continent by force. Even though he has a vast fleet, he prefers to take the war personally, riding his spectral steed, wielding the infamous black sword typically used by black knights, another of the traditional classes of warriors. final Fantasy.
A gameplay full of action and variety
Final Fantasy XVI follows a line similar to that of Final Fantasy VII Remake in terms of combat. Unlike the classic games of the franchise until the last generation, in the new game the battles take place in real time, and you directly control your characters, similar to an action game.
Certain abilities, however, are influenced by a system of cooldown, that is, they cannot be used repeatedly, but only after a certain time. Its use can also depend on how many mana points you currently have.
As seen in the special presentation of the State of Play performed by Sony in April, the game's fighting system also features attack combos, in a way that is very reminiscent of the gameplay of Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, action game and spin off from the series, produced by Team Ninja, released last year.
There is also a wide variety of playstyles depending on the character being controlled. In the presentation, we saw different types of gameplay, with emphasis on a kind of ode to the classic Panzer Dragoon, from Sega Saturn, in which Phoenix flew in the skies and shot at various enemies and Bahamut, other Eikon, using a targeting system very similar to that game.
There was a bit of hand-to-hand combat, the good old-fashioned brawl, in which the Eikon Titan went to bat against Garuda. In a few seconds of the video, a part was also shown in which the ferocious battle dog torgal came into action. They got tired of the caresses we give them, friends. The time to let them firewood on enemies has arrived!
As described by the team at showmetech after that State of Play, Final Fantasy XVI it's looking like one hell of a roller coaster ride in terms of different types of gameplay combined. We won't be surprised if there are even more types of gameplay even more crazies lurking in the game, waiting to be discovered when the final version is available to the public.
And the other aspects of the game, like the navigation and the soundtrack for example, how were they?
In interview with PLAY Magazine, Yoshida revealed that Final Fantasy XVI is an RPG with a structure closer to what we saw in older titles in the series, such as the tenth and twelfth games, that is, no fully open world like the last one final Fantasy.
This means that to navigate the game world, we will visit a central zone called The Hideaway, where there is a world map, and from it we can choose where to go, depending on where we are in the adventure. Each of these locations has unique content, and there is the possibility of using a fast travel system between them, as long as they have already been visited at least once.
According to the director, there is always something new to do in these places, activities that are not necessarily associated with the main mission, that is, they are promised a lot side quests to spend hours and hours getting lost in Enlightenment.
The hideout also has training options so that players can update their skills, repeat these missions as much as they want, and also rewatch the game movies if they wish.
Remembering that Masayoshi Soken, another name known by fans of the franchise and whose best known work is the entire musical part of Final Fantasy XIV, lends his talent to the newest volume.
He brings his well-known rocker touch to the game's soundtrack, with a lot of metal. One song in particular, punctuated by a choir, brought a touch à la Final Fantasy VIII and your beloved and nostalgic Free Fatals, theme song by the magician Ultimecia, to what we could see from the sixteenth game in the series.
We are ready! The battle!
It was announced by Square Enix that within two weeks before the game comes out, there will be a demo to test the game in advance. We don't know details about that yet, but don't worry; as soon as we hear anything new, you'll be up to speed on how to enjoy the game before you buy it.
Final Fantasy XVI will be released day June 22 for computers and as an exclusive release for consoles in PlayStation 5. There was no confirmation from the game's producer how long this exclusivity will last until the time of this post. To the bad tongues they say that versions for other consoles will come out at least six months after the initial launch, therefore, sometime next year, but there is still nothing confirmed in fact.
And of course, keep an eye on the site for our review full version of the game, coming very soon!
