O Android Q is among us, in its beta version for developers! Less than a month after release, developers have already scoured the entire operating system, discovering new features and many bugs. But they will only have the news. Here we list resources that the Android Q will bring in your version, so far.
Appearance
who had Windows Phone remember how fun it was to change the system theme and colors. At the Android Q, you will have something similar, since it will be possible to change the main color of the system. Currently, the options are limited to white, black, green and purple. The chosen color will be displayed in several places in the system interface, such as in the shortcuts of the notification bar.
The app icons and action center can be customized in 4 ways: pattern, drop, rounded rectangle and squirl.
The dark theme also made it to the Android Q, but not in the way we expected. So far, it's not just an appearance option, as it's only activated together with the battery saver mode. There was also a change in the density of the effect of blur (blur) on a music album cover on the lock screen.
Still on the lock screen, when locking the device, the screen continues to display the time and notification icons for a few seconds until it turns off completely. Finally, the most contradictory appearance change: the curves of the screen and the emptiness of the notch are present in screenshots.
Privacy
Some apps need different permissions to work, from SMS to your own location. On Android Q it is possible to have greater control over these permissions with the option “allow only while the app is in use”. So background apps can't get data from your phone while you do other things.
The number of apps with access to clipboard (clipboard) will decrease considerably. At the Android Q, for security reasons, only input method apps (e.g. keyboard apps) and some foreground apps will have access to the clipboard.
O Google is giving an alert to developers who have not yet updated their apps to the privacy requirements of Android 8 Oreo. The first time the user opens these older apps, a system screen will be presented with all the permissions that the app asks for, which can be granted manually.
The beta 2 of Android Q bring the scoped storage. This feature allows applications to write data to the cell phone only within a sandbox, without affecting other files; but requires user permission to release access to photos, videos and audios. This feature brings greater security, as the application will run in isolation: it will not make changes to the system and all the files generated are temporary.
System
No Android Q, notifications are dismissed just by swiping right. The intention is that the swipe left shows the options to “snooze” and “settings” of the notification. It is a change that resembles iOS.
A stress of sharing through Android is the delay of loading frequent recipients. This can interfere with the flow of action and make it often prefer to open the desired application and send it. At the Android Q, in the sharing interface, recent recipients appear instantly, along with a link address at the top that you can copy.
Bubble notifications are built into the system natively. This feature is characteristic of Facebook Messenger. Since Android 8 Oreo, background calls are in a bubble to perform actions. O Google is now introducing bubble notification natively, so the feature can be easily used by developers. Some system applications already use the feature in beta 2 of Android Q.
The system file manager is also updated, with a better look, more filters and new features. In the battery settings, you can activate a function that tells you how long the battery should last. The information is at the top of the notification center, next to the battery icon.
When you delete an app icon or widget from the home screen, an undo button will appear.
The screen recording feature is present in the Android Q, with voice recording and ringtone display. However, there is a bugs which prevents ending, pausing or canceling recording. The screen flashes, all apps are closed and the user is forwarded to the lock screen. To resolve this, it is necessary to restart the smartphone and no recording files are saved.
Want to try Android Q? Calm down there!
So far, the beta of Android Q only available for devices Google Pixel. Smartphones from other manufacturers should be included, among them the Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi e LG.
Faced with serious bugs that prevent applications and games from starting, as well as several problems that interfere with daily activities, such as reduced battery life, it is not recommended to update your only smartphone for the beta of Android Q. There will be six phases from beta to launch, so there will be more stable versions to test.
- beta 1 (March 13, 2019);
- beta 2 (increments update, beta, early April 2019);
- beta 3 (increments update, beta, beginning May 2019, coinciding with the Google I/O);
- beta 4 (Final APIs and official SDK, beta, early June 2019);
- beta 5 (user testing in Q2019 XNUMX);
- beta 6 (last user test in Q2019 XNUMX);
- final release scheduled for the third quarter of 2019.
