The history of The Color Purple takes place in the South of the United States, in the first half of the 20th century, when Celie, a poor, semi-literate black woman, is brutalized since childhood and forced to marry a violent widower. As the years go by, Celie begins to write letters to God and her sister in a very peculiar language.
Directed by Samuel Bazawule, the work currently showing in cinemas features a very full cast, with names such as Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Halle Bailey and Colman Domingo. The film received an Oscar nomination, with Brooks' performance as Sofia.
Duna
After the resounding success with Dune – Part 1, director Denis Villeneuve launches the second chapter of the epic story of Dune, a book by Frank Herbert, originally published in 1965. The first production, released in 2021, won a total of six Oscars. The cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Mamoa and Florence Pugh.
Unlike the previous one, Frank Herbert's book is a complete dizzying adventure of mysticism, ecology and politics. After driving the contemporary classic Parasite, the South Korean artist will bring Edward Ashton's book to the big screen under the name mickey 7 with Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie and Steven Yeun in the cast. The production hits Brazilian cinemas on March 28th.
The Watchers
The work of Irish author AM Shine is a chilling horror adventure, set in the remote and very sinister forests of his home country. The story takes the protagonist Mina to hide between the trees in a place where she cannot see anything, even though she is being watched at all times. When she runs to a bunker where she can protect herself, Mina starts asking herself a series of questions about who the vigilantes are and what is happening there.
With Dakota Fanning in the lead role, Ishana Shyamalan, daughter of controversial director M. Night Shyamalan, is responsible for bringing the 2021 book to the cinema in 2024. The film is scheduled to be released in Brazil on June 6th.
All of Us Strangers
Written by Taichi Yamada, the book tells the story of screenwriter Adam, who during a night in his almost deserted building, ends up having a chance encounter with his neighbor Harry. As the relationship develops, Adam finds himself remembering his childhood and decides to return to the city where he was born. Arriving at his destination, he discovers that his parents live exactly as they were 30 years ago, when they died.
With Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott in the cast, the film premiered in Brazil in early 2024 and is not yet available on any streaming service. streaming from the country. The direction of All of Us Strangers is up to Andrew Haigh.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
