During an event held in the city of São Paulo, the Microsoft invited journalists and partners such as OpenAI, Acer, Intel and more to discuss the use of AI in schools, by students and teachers. Everyone talked about how we are going through the process of taking advantage of the advancement of AI in education. Check out the details right now.
Allow or block? The responsible use of AIs in teaching
During the event named after Microsoft AI Tour Brazil, it was explained that we are at a moment of revolution in our daily lives, something similar to the arrival of the internet.
We can compare the arrival of artificial intelligence as the moment when the internet was introduced to the world, or the computer became personal. This is the third great digital revolution. Artificial intelligence cuts steps, automates data collection and helps companies, organizations and people to be more efficient. But it is necessary to remember that it is still a developing technology, which needs to be treated as such.
Tânia Cosentino, President of Microsoft Brazil
Although many people believe it is necessary to create new rules for responsible use of AI, Tania Cosentino, president of Microsoft Brazil, explains that it is not necessary to “reinvent the wheel”, but rather to take advantage of what already exists to solve problems that have been with us for a long time.
The idea is to take advantage of the foundations built by Microsoft and other suppliers to bring new ideas to life, which meet the demands and needs of each country or region. In other words: instead of trying to “reinvent the wheel”, countries can prefer to use what already exists to create practical applications and solve real problems – such as speeding up care in the healthcare sector or making public transport more reliable.
Tânia Cosentino, President of Microsoft Brazil
Although we talk more about artificial intelligence in the last two years, the Microsoft has been working to enable the responsible use of AI since 2017. The company has partnered with public and private sector professionals to develop a series of coordinated initiatives that seek to combine inclusion and economic growth.
For example, the specialization of professionals in generative technology is encouraged, an essential condition for promoting the digital transformation of Brazilian companies. In another line of action, the company encourages the use of AI in environmental preservation projects.
The AI revolution is just beginning. It is time to build an ethical and responsible approach, with modern and efficient public governance, so that people and companies can make the best use of the opportunities of generative technology.

Benefit for students
A very big concern for teachers and other school leaders is the possible use in responses, which impedes learning. Renato Feder, Secretary of Education of the Government of SP, states that these technologies can be used by both students and teachers.
Regarding students, the use of artificial intelligence can be used when searching for information and also when resolving doubts. However, the review must still be done so that no incorrect data is delivered to teachers. It is also worth remembering that options such as Chat GPT they have data on events up to September 2021, but their knowledge and forms of explanation in different tones can be important support.
One of the most recent examples is from the concurseiro Victor Volpe Fogolin, which was approved in five competitions when using ChatGPT as study support. We have already told you more about the subject in a special subject, be sure to check it out.
Renato Feder gives examples, such as the use of a student assignment checking tool, which helps teachers obtain instant evaluations of answers and essays, indicating the student's performance, grammar errors and even giving recommendations on how the student can improve their performance.
Brazilian education is being reinvented with the use of artificial intelligence. The tool is already in use today and is revolutionary. It speeds up the teacher's work, while helping the student learn why they made mistakes and how they can improve.
Renato Feder, Secretary of Education of the Government of São Paulo
Renato explains that students should not be prohibited from using artificial intelligence in their daily lives, as this technology can assist in researching and reviewing their work. According to him, the method of learning with AI can work as a study aid and make students even more creative.
Advantages for teachers
In August 2023, the Microsoft, in partnership with Seduc-SP (São Paulo Department of Education) launched a platform called Paulista Newsroom. Drinking from the fountain Microsoft Copilot, the artificial intelligence of Windows 11, it is possible to receive corrections that indicate areas for improvement via spelling and grammar checker.
Instead of reading essay by essay, teachers can review texts written by students on the platform, which makes this correction automatically and even sends a score in just a few seconds.
During this first moment, the Paulista Newsroom is aimed at students from the 6th year of elementary school to the 3rd year of high school in the state of São Paulo.
Artificial intelligence for teachers arrives as a tool that carries out a second review: this is because as soon as the student uploads the first version to the platform, a first analysis is carried out. Only after the notes are corrected does the text written by the students reach the teacher.
Then, the teacher receives an analysis of the platform and sends the notes that must be corrected in this second version. In addition to simplifying the review process, students can use artificial intelligence as a way to practice writing, explains Renato Feder.
Renato Feder, Secretary of Education of the Government of São PauloAI can relieve teachers of more bureaucratic tasks and facilitate the personalization of education.
Performance in important tests, such as saresp (School Performance Assessment System of the State of São Paulo) and in the ideb (Basic Education Development Index), should also improve with the use of this platform.
Until January 03, 2024, around 2,4 million students used Redação Paulista, sending 3,5 million texts. You can access it via a school computer or even from what you have at home.
What comes next?
At your event, the Microsoft highlights that education is the basis for AI advances to be successful, since the workforce serves both to develop applications and to prepare the workforce with the digital skills necessary for the jobs that will emerge in this era.
One of the incentives is the partnership with the LinkedIn: the learning program Career Essentials in Generative AI (Essential Career Fundamentals in Generative AI) will be subtitled in Portuguese and will be available until 2025.
Composed of six modules, the training aims to present an overview of the technology's full potential, explaining how generative AI models work and highlighting the importance of their ethical aspects and their responsible use. The platform allows students to access exercise files, ask questions, read the transcript of video content and take notes. Those who complete the program receive a professional certificate from Microsoft.
Another initiative, already launched in October 2023, is the Worker School 4.0. The idea is focused on offering free courses on the IT universe certified by Microsoft, for young people and working adults, over 14 years old, who want to reinvent themselves and prepare for the new demands of the world of work.
Since launch, more than one million people have registered. You can enroll in courses such as:
- Artificial Intelligence Professional, with five modules
- Microsoft Azure AI Essentials: What is Generative AI?
