In the same way that we already do in Pix, soon all Brazilians who use Google Wallet will be able to use the application to read a QR code for payment, allowing access to the feature for those who have a smartphone without NFC (required for contactless payment). Check out all the details of the news right now.
New reminds payment via Pix
Despite the technology being more present in recent smartphones, the number of people who do not have a cell phone with NFC is still high. This not only prevents contactless payments, but also prevents these consumers from using the functionality in other day-to-day tasks.
To end one of these problems, the app Google Wallet announced that all people who have cards registered in the application will be able to make payments via QR Code.
It will be very simple to use: just ask the cashier to make the payment in this mode and a code will be generated on the card machine or computer screen. Then, after an identity confirmation (via fingerprint reading or password typing) in the Google Wallet, you can scan what appears on the screen for the payment to be made.
The company points out that it will be possible to make payments by credit and debit cards, just that the card is previously saved in the payment application. Receipts will be saved in the app, just like when a purchase is made via NFC.
Use of NFC in Brazil
A survey conducted by IDC Brazil showed that 60% of smartphones sold in Brazil between 2020 and 2023 do not have proximity technology that prevents the use of physical cards, vaccine cards and even public transport passes. Another data from the same survey showed that only 25% of Brazilians use NFC in payments, according to data from 2023.
The data show that a significant part of the Brazilian population ends up excluded from the ease and security brought by digital payments made with the Google Wallet Payment by QR Code is a technology designed and developed for markets like ours, which will further expand democratization digital already provided by the Android system.
