What to know when choosing a class in Baldur's Gate 3?
When embarking on the grand adventure of Baldur's Gate 3, it's not just the choice of your character's class that requires meticulous attention, but also the selection of journey companions. It is essential to seek balance between the powers and abilities of each member of the group, ensuring that there is diversity and complementarity between them.
This balance becomes crucial when facing various challenges, as a well-balanced team can turn complex obstacles into simpler tasks to overcome. Therefore, when choosing your hero, also think about who will walk alongside you, as the synergy between them is an important step for the game. So, there is no best class of Baldur's Gate 3 to define your path, just your choices.
Baldur's Gate 3 classes
Bárbaro
If your desire is to trample and destroy enemies without mercy, the Barbarian class is the right choice for you. Armed with giant weapons, you can spread pain around you relentlessly. The Fury skill allows you to deal even more damage and take less during a frantic state of combat.
Fortunately, the options don't stop there. Subclasses enhance your destructive potential: Berserker lets you strike more often and throw objects further, Primal adds a touch of savage wrath with animal-themed effects to the Rage skill. Finally, Totemic Warrior grants random spell effects during Rage.
Warrior
The Warrior may seem like a simple choice, but make no mistake, it is an extremely versatile option. Through the wide range of weapons and armor at your disposal, you can customize your play style to your preferences.
Whether causing more damage or better resisting enemy attacks, the Warrior has the strength and health necessary for any task. Subclasses like Battlemaster and Arcane Knight add mobility and magic to the equation, while the Champion focuses on simplicity, offering a greater chance of dealing substantial damage.
Monge
Sometimes all you want is to throw punches. With the Monk class, you can do it in style. While he doesn't have access to a variety of weapons or armor, his trained body is a weapon in its own right. Deal damage and dodge quickly with your chi attacks.
Furthermore, they have three subclasses: Path of the Four Elements, Path of the Open Hand and Dark Path. Each of them adds magic, versatility, and stealth to your moves, allowing you to hone your combat style to suit your preferences.
Paladin
Paladins are faith-driven warriors with access to a wide variety of weapons and armor. They personify heroism, governed by sacred oaths. In addition to their exceptional combat abilities, Paladins also offer healing and support options.
Your chosen oath and ruling deity determine the rest of your magical abilities. With options like Oath of Elders, Oath of Devotion, and Oath of Vengeance, you can shape your Paladin according to your beliefs and goals.
Additionally, the Paladin has a fourth secret subclass option: the Perjurer, which can only be accessed when you break some of your oaths, such as attacking an enemy from behind or hurting someone innocent.
Ladino
If you believe that the best defense is to avoid enemy attacks, the Rogue class is your ideal choice. With high dexterity and evasive skills, you are a master in the art of stealth movement and ranged combat. Eliminating your targets before they even notice you is the other specialty of this class.
Additionally, rogue subclasses build on the class's natural strengths: Thief gets additional actions per turn, Arcane Trickster uses magic to confuse enemies with illusions and distractions, and Assassin specializes in sneaky, efficient kills.
patrolman
If you're passionate about nature but prefer to use a little less magic, the Ranger class is your perfect choice. These agile hunters live to track prey and are experts at surviving in the most hostile environments.
Choose your preferred targets and locations during character creation to gain useful bonus abilities. With the Beast Master, Hunter, and Dark Stalker subclasses, you can develop friendships with fauna or inspire fear in any living creature, being a terror to all who dare get in your way.
Bard
Explore your artistic side and earn the admiration of everyone around you with support skills and attack spells. Bards are naturally captivating, and their high Charisma not only inspires allies in combat, but also shines in duels of words and wits.
The College of Wisdom, College of Valor, and College of Swords subclasses offer additional combat options and equipment, enhancing your skills to help the party. It is worth remembering that these musicians are extremely versatile, as they combine some of the strengths of each other class, but they are not above average. So, if you're in doubt about your class in Baldur's Gate 3, Bard is always an excellent option.
Cleric
Em Baldur's Gate 3, being a Cleric doesn't just mean being a healer. This class is highly diverse and customizable, with surprising attack power, as well as healing and support abilities.
The Cleric Domain and the deity chosen during character creation profoundly affect your build, transforming you from a simple healer into a versatile battle medic capable of wielding destructive weapons. Next to mages, they have the most customization options.
Druid
Have you ever dreamed of transforming into animals or controlling nature? Druids have this power. Furthermore, in Baldur's Gate 3, they also have healing abilities, support and the ability to metamorphose into creatures such as giant badgers; the Druid class offers a unique experience.
Subclasses such as Circle of the Moon, Circle of the Earth, and Circle of Spores add variety and depth to your abilities, allowing you to choose the style that best suits your gameplay.
Wizard
The Wizard is the master of magic in Baldur's Gate 3. Although he doesn't have many weapon or armor options, his exceptional intelligence makes him an expert at spells.
Mage subclasses focus on enhancing specific spells, offering bonus attributes for the type of magic you want to master. With their unique ability to create custom spells, they are a valuable addition in combat and out.
Wizard
Wizards extract magical powers from otherworldly beings, pledging loyalty to them. This choice can be risky, but it can also be incredibly rewarding if you're willing to take the risk.
Therefore, they can master a diverse range of spells, such as attack, support and weakening, while their Wisdom and Charisma help them in complex social situations. The exact nature of their spells depends on the being they swear allegiance to, be it The Corruptor, the Great Old One, or the Archfey.
Sorcerer
Some people study magic to be able to release them, while others need their faith or pacts to access these powers. However, sorcerers were born with a talent for magic. They do not need to exert themselves or draw power from others; magic flows naturally through them.
Sorcerers' unique Metamagic allows them to enhance spells in innovative ways, creating personalized spells that, combined with their captivating Charisma, make them valuable in any situation.
With subclass options like Storm Sorcery, Wild Magic, and Draconic Bloodline, you can customize your character to suit your play style.
Does race influence class?
In Baldur's Gate 3, the traditional influence of race on class choice has been minimized, thanks to the abolition of the rigid attribute system. Now, players have the freedom to choose and improve their characters' attributes without severe restrictions.
This opened the door to quirky and fun combinations, like a gnome wielding justice as a paladin or an elf embracing his inner fury as a barbarian. Try it and enjoy this new freedom!
We hope you now have a clearer understanding of the options available and are prepared to forge your own path on this epic adventure. It is worth remembering that the game is now available for computers, PlayStation 5 and should arrive on new generation consoles Microsoft still this year!
