Lawyers say accounts that have broken Brazilian laws are being blocked on the social network; unblocking may be imminent

Despite being against blocking X/Twitter in Brazil, Elon Musk made the decision to comply with the request of the Supreme Federal Court and the hope of the social network returning to Brazil is greater. And although the site was available to some Brazilians during the day of September 18, the billionaire claims that this was not done on purpose. Understand the turnaround.

Change of position

If you have been one of the people who used X/Twitter yesterday (18), know that this should not have happened, but it should not take long for everyone to be able to use the social network in Brazil again. Elon Musk's lawyers tell CNN that the best way to unblock X is to actually comply with the orders of the STF, imposed by the Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Elon Musk agreed to follow this position.

Since the night of September 18, profiles that previously failed to comply with Brazilian laws began to be suspended on X/Twitter, one of the first orders from the STF that also led to the blocking of the social network in Brazil.

Just yesterday, lawyers representing Elon Musk, through a petition sent to the STF, also took the opportunity to emphasize that there was no “trick” to make the social network available again to a good portion of Brazilians.

In a statement on the social network itself, it was highlighted that this happened due to a change in Cloudflare servers so that employees could work better. See the official note and the translation below:

When X was disabled in Brazil, our infrastructure to provide services in Latin America was no longer accessible to our team.

In order to continue providing adequate service to our users, we have changed network providers. This change has resulted in an inadvertent and temporary restoration of service for Brazilian users.

While we wait for the platform to become inaccessible again in Brazil, we will continue our efforts with the Brazilian government to return it to users in Brazil very soon.

Despite this, Alexandre de Moraes fined X/Twitter R$5 million due to this problem that caused some Brazilians to regain access to the social network.

When will X/Twitter be unblocked?

As you have already done payment of fines of R$ 18 million and began suspending the profiles indicated by the STF, the next step to unblock Twitter in Brazil is the appointment of a legal representative for X in Brazil. This person will be responsible for responding to requests from the Brazilian Government and also working on special actions during elections, for example.

The requirement of the Twitter Having a legal representative is not exclusive to Elon Musk's social network: in 2023, Telegram went through a blockade which was only removed when a legal representative was appointed by the founder Pavel Durov. This law is mandatory for all international companies operating in Brazil.

Until such an indication is made, X remains blocked in Brazil. It shouldn't take more than two weeks for everything to return to normal, but follow the showmetech to find out all the latest news on this subject.
