Everything you need to know about PlayStation Portal

After several online speculations, Sony unveils its latest product: the playstation portal. This device joins the DualSense control to an LCD screen, promising to provide players with satisfactory performance without relying on the use of a television. It will be available for pre-order in the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Portugal from September 29th, 2023., for the price of US$ 199,99 (R$969,93 in direct conversion).

How does it work?

O playstation portal is a device that works as a portable screen and a control at the same time, which expands the possibilities of fun with the Sony console, offering more mobility and practicality for gamers. It connects to PlayStation 5 and lets you play without needing a TV, just holding the Portal in your hands — which doesn't make it a console per se. With PS5-inspired design, it comes in white and black colors and a curved shape.

The device is equipped with an 8-inch display with a resolution Full HD (1080p) e até 60fps. Its configuration includes the control Dualense modified as a single piece next to the screen, keeping the feedback tactile and adaptive triggers whenever these features are made available with the game. It also has a connector for 3,5 mm (P2) for wired headphones.

It will be possible to play with the games available in your library on PlayStation 5. However, there is a limitation: games that use the PlayStation VR, exclusive peripherals or cloud streaming games will not support the PS Portal.

The manufacturer suggests using the Wi-Fi home to connect the console to the PS Portal. However, on their official website, they indicate that it is feasible to use PlayStation Portal on any Wi-Fi broadband internet connection with a minimum speed of 5 Mbps for general use and 15 Mbps for a seamless experience.

Taking advantage of the announcement, two additional devices were revealed: the wireless headset Press Elite and headset wireless Press Explorer. These devices aim to provide users with a high-quality 3D audio experience, along with AI-enhanced noise cancellation features, a built-in microphone, and the convenience of charging via a USB Type-C connection. Press Elite will be available for $149,99 (R$726,23 in direct conversion) and Press Explore will be available for $199,99 (R$969,93 in direct conversion.

PlayStationLink is the software that will allow wireless audio connection between PlayStation devices such as the PS5, PS Portal, the headphones Press Elite e Press Explore, and also PCs and Macs. According to Sony, PlayStation Link offers low-latency, lossless audio (Lossless), in addition to facilitating switching between connected devices. To use PlayStation Link, you need a USB adapter that comes with the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore headphones, or can be purchased separately. The adapter connects to the PS5 or PC and contains technology that improves wireless audio performance over standard Bluetooth.
