Revealed in January 2024, the Galaxy A.I. is Samsung's new artificial intelligence feature that, at the time, had been launched for the recently arrived Galaxy S24 line of smartphones — which includes the models S24, S24 + e S24Ultra. After a few months, the brand expanded this adoption, also bringing the feature to other smartphones, tablets and headphones. Expansion of Galaxy AI in the Samsung lineup
Samsung revealed the global expansion of new artificial intelligence capabilities, or what is known here Galaxy A.I., now available in Brazilian territory. Previously exclusive to smartphones in the line Galaxy S24, the innovation is now available for Galaxy S23 series smartphones — S23, S23+, S23 FE and S23 Ultra – as well as for foldable ones Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, tablets Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra and finally on the headphones Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Galaxy Buds2 and Galaxy Buds FE.
This long-awaited update began rolling out gradually on March 29th through an interface update One UI 6.1, promising an even smarter and more intuitive user experience. As Galaxy A.I., users can expect a range of new features and enhancements that elevate the functionality and practicality of their Samsung devices, making them truly smart companions for everyday life.
Key Features of Generative AI
"But why is this such an interesting news?“, you might ask yourself. Artificial Intelligence is the topic of the moment, highly explored by several companies, including Samsung. Here are some tools made available by technology:
Circle to search
In collaboration with the Google, Samsung presents the Circle To Search - or yet Circle to Search –, an innovative feature that simplifies searching on your cell phone. With the feature, users can hold the home button for 2 seconds and then circle the items they want to search, using the finger or S-Pen. Google interprets this gesture and displays the results directly on the screen, making the search for products, places and people more intuitive.
This streamlined approach enables users to perform instant searches even while immersed in other applications. For example, you can search for information about a monument while browsing a social network or find out more about an interesting topic while watching videos on youtube shorts, without having to leave the current application. Depending on the user's location, some searches may present AI-generated summaries, providing useful information and context from across the web.
Call translation
Galaxy AI also introduces a feature called Call Assist, which allows simultaneous translation of calls. When making or receiving a call, the voice is instantly translated from Portuguese to any other language, facilitating communication between people who speak different languages. Caller responses are translated and displayed in voice and text on the screen, providing an unparalleled global calling experience.
The voice meeting app has been improved to identify up to 20 speakers in one conversation, offering transcription and translation capabilities. Meanwhile, Chat Assist offers translation, writing style and grammar checking. Although the translation efficiency is accurate, the generated writing style can still seem a bit robotic.
Message translation
Not just for calls: simultaneous translation of text messaging is also present here. This functionality allows users to send and receive messages in different languages, with Galaxy AI's artificial intelligence automatically translating content in real time.
With the feature Interpreter, this advanced translation system not only overcomes language barriers but also protects the privacy of conversations. No third-party applications are required, and the artificial intelligence integrated into the device guarantees complete security of interactions. Furthermore, this feature is capable of operating efficiently even without a connection to the mobile network or Wi-Fi.
Image editing
As for artificial intelligence resources applied to photography and video, Galaxy AI offers very interesting innovations. O nightography enhances photos and videos captured at night or in low-light conditions, reducing noise and improving image quality. O Zoom noise canceling prioritizes the sound of people and objects as you approach, while AI photo editing provides various improvements, such as erasing reflections, objects and remastering images.
Galaxy AI technology also excels in image editing, offering a seamless experience. instant slow motion — this exclusive for the S24 line, since the feature would not arrive with a good experience on other devices, according to Samsung. When exploring the video gallery on your phone, simply long-press on any video to reduce its playback speed by half while maintaining the smoothness of the image. The presence of generative wallpapers may also interest some users, providing a continuous stream of adjustable single images.
Galaxy AI's generative editing feature includes the ability to intelligently delete objects. Whether you want to remove unwanted elements, such as posts or people in the background, or improve the aesthetics of an image, the object erase functionality offers an intuitive and effective solution. Galaxy AI's artificial intelligence analyzes the scene, identifying elements that can be removed without compromising the overall image quality, providing a tool to quickly enhance and personalize photographs.
Transcript into notes
For voice recordings, including those with multiple speakers, the Transcription Assistant Galaxy AI uses Artificial Intelligence and speech-to-text technology, allowing transcription, summarization and even translation of recordings into notes. This functionality is powered by a robust AI system and speech-to-text technology, ensuring accuracy and efficiency when transforming oral content into written text.
By employing advanced AI algorithms, Galaxy AI Transcription Assistant is able to recognize linguistic nuances, different tones of voice and even accents, ensuring an accurate and contextualized transcription. This is especially valuable in environments where there are multiple speakers, such as meetings, conferences or interviews, where clearly identifying individual contributions is essential.
Text generation
The Galaxy AI text generator is a tool that uses artificial intelligence to create content in an automated way. O Galaxy AI Text Generator uses advanced natural language processing techniques to compose texts in different styles and contexts. It can be used for various purposes like writing articles, creating content for social media, generating product descriptions, and much more.
One of the advantages of Galaxy AI's text generator is its ability to produce content quickly and in large quantities, which can be useful for companies and professionals who need a large amount of text efficiently. It is important to note that, like any AI technology, the quality of the text generated may vary, and in some cases it may be necessary to review and edit the content produced.
Wallpaper customization
The new feature also offers users the ability to create personalized wallpapers for their devices. Despite the convenience of this tool, a water mark is automatically added to the generated images, without the option to deactivate it, which has surprised some users. Currently, it is not possible to share creations made with Galaxy AI, limiting their use exclusively to the device on which they were created.
Use on tablets
Samsung's latest line of tablets, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 They also feature new Artificial Intelligence technology. All the features we've seen so far, such as Circle to Search, photo and video editing, image and text generation, simultaneous translation, media transcription and everything else are also included in all models in the Tab S9 line.
In our interview, Renato Citrini, senior product manager at Samsung Brazil's Mobile Experience division, states that, although there are no tablet-exclusive features in relation to the Galaxy AI, it is still more comfortable and dynamic to use in certain situations. Recording meetings to translate or transcribe them, for example, becomes more interesting using a tablet from the Galaxy Tab S9 line together with Galaxy AI.

How to use Galaxy AI
To be able to start using all the available features of Galaxy AI, you must first confirm that your device supports the technology. In the case of smartphones, these are the ones available so far for:
- Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra;
- Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, S23 FE and Galaxy S23 Ultra;
- Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5.

The future of Galaxy AI
Second Jun-Youn Kim (YJ Kim), Executive Vice President and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Team at Samsung Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung is envisioning a future in which user devices, such as smartphones, are equipped with complete, autonomous AI systems. This implies that an increasing range of activities, even the most complex ones, will migrate from processing in data centers to local processing.
However, it is highly likely that this transition will require significantly greater processing capacity from the chips present in these devices (as well as their NPUs or neural processing units), exceeding the limits of Snapdragon 8 Gen3 from Qualcomm, used in the Galaxy S24.
Language Models (LLMs) developed by companies such as Google, Samsung, Meta, OpenAI, NVIDIA and others will need to be optimized to maintain their effectiveness, while being adapted for devices with processing and data storage capabilities that are more restricted than those in data centers, as is the case with current smartphones, tablets and PCs. This, in fact, is one of the main challenges facing the industry today — including with Galaxy AI.
We are at a time to bring [Galaxy AI] to new devices. We launched it on the S24, now it’s available for the entire S23 family. We are expanding these functions that have already been launched, but of course our entire development team continues to study and test and bring new things. There's nothing we can announce for now, but yes, this is work that can be said to be at the beginning, just starting out on this topic, in all the potential that artificial intelligence can have.
