Interestingly, the live broadcast was done with the mobile device itself, showing the world its power. The location was the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and Showmetech was there to tell you how it went.
Samsung announced that in 2020, it will invest more than 22 billion dollars in solutions that integrate Artificial Intelligence, 5G and the Internet of Things into its products.
“Our technology will not do the transformation alone, but it will allow people to do it”
Mario Laffitte, vice president of corporate affairs at Samsung in Latin America.
Laffite says that Samsung dominates 54% of the mobile device market share in Latin America, and that in 2019, the company sold 108 smartphones per minute in the region.
The new Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra
As expected, the big highlight was the arrival of smartphones Galaxy S20, S20 + e S20Ultra, which breaks with the traditional numbering and was not called “S11” as expected.
According to the Senior Product Manager of Samsung Brazil's Mobile Devices Division, Renato Citrini, the company decided to break the pattern to represent the new decade, as well as the end of the first 10-year cycle of Galaxy smartphones.
For smartphones of the line Galaxy S20, Citrini cites a survey by the Counterpoint Research which points to cameras as the main reason for the user to switch smartphones. For this reason, new cell phones are focused on this need.
It is worth mentioning that the successor of DJ Koh for Samsung's smartphone area: Roh Tae-Moon. He was chosen for his leading role in the cost reduction of the company, especially in the area of smartphones. Koh will remain as co-CEO of Samsung.
Design and Canvas
There were no major changes in the design compared to the S10 and S10 +, the most notable being the unification of the front cameras, as they are all centered at the top of the screen, with just a single lens, which takes up even less space than before.
The three models have the front area fully dedicated to the screen and the sides are in metal. Both the front and rear have glass. Gorilla Glass 6, highly resistant to scratches, and the devices are certified IP 68 , ensuring protection from water and dust.
As for the screen, all have the display AMOLED dynamic, with a refresh rate of 120 HZ and touch sensor 240 HZ. This means viewing content is even faster, and it also provides a huge improvement in finger touch sensitivity. This set also promises competitive advantages for gamers.
It is worth mentioning that the S20 model has a 6,2-inch screen, while the S20 + has 6,7 inches and the S20 Ultra, 6,9 inches.
Cameras
The big focus of the line S20 are the cameras, and each model has a specific set of lenses, being triple on the S20 and quadruple on the S20+ and S20 Ultra. The latter has the best specs of the trio: main lens with a resolution of 108 SM. This sensor is XNUMX times greater than the present in S10, giving rise to the new night mode Bright light: when taking pictures at night it matches 9 pixels in 1, recording images with great quality even in unfavorable lighting conditions.
Another novelty for photography is the Space Zoom, which combines hybrid optical zoom and Super Resolution Zoom, a digital mode that uses artificial intelligence to zoom in on the images. The optical zoom of 3x, together with the digital mode, gives the models S20 e S20 + full zoom of 30x, while in the model S20Ultra the optical zoom of 10x comes to incredible 100x, when combined with Super Resolution Zoom.
As for video recordings, the three models reach the resolution of 8K, it is also possible to live streams at that resolution and extract images in up to 33 megapixels. There is also the possibility of recording in 4K, FullHD and HD.
The recordings also rely on the technology of super stabilization, preventing the footage from being shaky, and the night hyperlapse, which is a technique that achieves fast motion in video even in low-light conditions.
There is also the way Single take, where the camera captures a series of different photos (up to 10) and videos (up to 4) and will select the best ones for the user. Artificial intelligence is responsible for defining the best moment, the best lens combination, the use of dynamic focus, filters and smart cuts.
Inventory
The three models have the processor Exynos 990 which, according to the Samsung, is made with a powerful processing capacity of artificial intelligence, aiming to innovate within this segment.
O Exynos 990 It has a dual-core neural processor, delivering faster and more efficient performance within the concept of machine learning. The latter is, basically, a means that allows artificial intelligence to learn to perform tasks that would be performed by people.
The models have RAM memory ranging from 8GB e 16GB (S20 Ultra), while the internal storage starts at 128GB to 512GB in the S20 Ultra version. All models have a microSD slot, for up to 1TB of extra storage.
The Galaxy S20 line already comes with the newly launched Android 10, and has native integration with Google Duo, thanks to a partnership between Samsung e Google, making it possible to chat with up to eight contacts at the same time. In addition, new features are present:
- QuickShare, Android's file sharing system similar to Airdrop, making it easy to share photos and files on any Samsung smartphone running Android 10
- MusicShare, a feature that allows you to set the Galaxy S20 as your primary device, and other Galaxy devices will be able to choose the songs that are playing at home or in the car
- Bixby Playlists, the personal assistant will understand which are the best songs for certain moments of your daily life, suggesting them to you on Spotify.
Another novelty is that the search for videos in Netflix it is now integrated into the Galaxy S20 search, and Samsung smartphone users will have exclusive content about famous series, such as behind-the-scenes recordings, for example.
Partnership was also made with Microsoft, bringing Xbox games exclusively to Galaxy devices. The first title available was Forza Street, and the promise is that more news will come in the future.
Galaxy Buds+
In this update, the headphones have a bigger battery, reaching up to 11 hours of audio playback, with a wireless charging system.
To improve audio reproduction and capture in calls, each of the headphones now has 2 speakers, 2 external and 1 internal microphone. However, there is no noise canceling system.
Thanks to a partnership made with the Spotify, the user can press a headphone button and access a playlist. It is also possible to control the ambient sound, simply adjusting the volume for you to hear (or not) what is “outside” the headphones.
