Increasingly distant, the king and princess are unable to keep their fights away from the public (Image: official HBO reproduction).

Much of the episode was focused on the birthday celebration of Aegon Targaryens. Called "the second year of the prince's name" (as well as the episode), the bash was the perfect backdrop for the important events in the episode. We had the succession of viserys (Paddy Considine), the future marriage of rhaenira (Milly Alcock) and a mention of the war that will be the final focus of the episode.

Discussions about the succession to the throne are held openly, bluntly by the king's subjects — in a tone of complete disrespect. In fact, the great lords, present at the party, or small vassals, comment on how the king should indicate Aegon and give up rhaenira.

Among the main guesses on this subject is Otto High Tower (Rhys Ifans), who wants to see his grandson as king, as he has managed to place his daughter Alicent High Tower (Olivia Cooke) as queen. And this discussion will continue throughout the episode, varying in position, but always focusing on one point: how rhaenira must not be queen.

Another important discussion that will be part of this episode is about the need to rhaenira marry. Conversations focused on the protagonist always tend to fall to her marriage proposals, with other lords, from other families. At some point, after the Lord Lannister ask for her hand, he will tell how marriage is a guarantee after succession by her brother.

And if before the king argued with his daughter in a low tone in his quarters, everything changes in this episode. The conversation and discussions, almost fights, are in front of everyone. rhaenira he opposes his father, the highest figure of respect in society — after all, he is still the king. And no, this scene does not show the princess as strong, but it puts her in an inferior position, as spoiled and tantrum for the characters of the court of Westeros.

It will be with many public fights that the princess will leave the royal hut and run away with a horse accompanied by Sir Criston Cole, the youngest knight of the Royal Guard. Honestly, the party part of Aegon It was one of the most interesting scenes for me. This breach of secrecy and spreading to everyone that there is a very serious problem in the royal family will only grow more and more when the war breaks out. Targaryen burst at once.

Two heirs, two omens

One of the most important aspects of the world of George RR Martin it's the symbology. We had that in Game of Thrones, and logically, we needed it in The Dragon House of some scene with a hint of the future, a warning to the viewers and the characters.

In this episode we had a white deer, which represents the prosperity of the next king. The scene begins with a vassal telling the king that they found the animal in the woods and that they will hunt it down for the prince. Aegon, in front of rhaenira — the heiress, in theory.

This scene of the vassal commenting right in front of the princess only reinforces a position that the king indicated to his daughter, leaving her aside and not giving her respect in the kingdom. This situation had already appeared in past episodes, when the Crown Princess served wine and did not make up the council table as a member.

Returning to the episode, the king's hunters try to catch, but instead of the white deer, they hunt a common deer - large, but brown. O King Viserys, with great suffering, slaughters the animal using the spear offered by the Lord Lannister. The scene is sad, because even with a perfect artifact, the king misses the blow, having to hit him twice and watch him slowly die.

At the same time as the royal hunt, after the princess had fled with a knight, Sir Cole, they stay in the woods. Sitting near a fire, the pair are attacked by a wild boar — which, yes, knocks a knight out of the woods. Royal Guard.

For the sake of survival and not ego, rhaenira kills the boar with a dagger. Several thrusts are given to the animal and the scene shows in detail the blood clinging to the princess, staining her face, neck and clothes. Those details will stay with her, clinging to her image until the end of the episode.

It is at dawn after the boar's attack that the princess sees its omen. The white deer appears to her and Sir Cole. Observing the animal, and knowing its meaning, rhaenira doesn't make a point of killing him, returning to reality as a princess and risking losing her throne.

We can't be sure of the producers' intention, but the scenes are important for the future of both heirs. Both the hunting scene of both characters and the symbology of the two deer.

The white deer does not appear to the king, who represents Aegon, but the rhaenira — who will obviously have to fight for the throne. Another point, as I mentioned, is the meaning of death. By killing the deer, the king causes suffering, needing more violence to kill it. rhaenira uses violence, but to survive the attack. The brown deer is large, but does not represent succession to the throne, while the white deer is, but runs away, lasting no more than two minutes.

Both scenes are emblematic, sealing the fate of two heirs who will have to fight for the survival of their own family dynasty.

Fatten Crabs, Daemon and the Velaryon

O Fatten Crabs and its appearance in detail in this Sunday's episode (4) (Image: official HBO reproduction)

As predicted in the last episode, the richest house in Westeros broke off relations with the royal family. And we also have to Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), after talking to the lord of the family, decided to do the same. Part of the neglect of King Viserys with his family and partly due to his inefficiency in the war against fatten crabs.

This breakup is so obvious that the family Velaryon he is not even in the celebration of the new prince or shows affection, however superficial, for the king. The withdrawal continues, and worsens, when the King Viserys — with some notion, resolves, after many years, to help in the war against Swamp.

This help is not welcome, not by the family, not even by the prince. Daemon targaryen, who is fighting with his dragon and full strength against the villain from the first part of the season. The letter sent by the king is despised by both families, and the plan of Laenor Velaryon, son of the lord.

with this plan laenor the premise of the first epic battle of the series arises, and not just a moment of tension, as it was in the last ones. Playing the perfect bait, Daemon surrenders on the battlefield, waiting for the fatten crabs leave your cave. Facing men after men, the Targaryen manages to draw attention and get as many men out of the shelters as possible and the villain himself.

So, setting fire to everything with two dragons and thousands of men killing each other on the ground, the family Velaryon begins to react, in fact, against the villain. The sequence is full of deaths and grotesque scenes, but in the end, Daemon brings the twisted body and closes the episode with such violence. This scene reinforces even more the elements of the episode: the grossness of the unrestrained violence and the explicit blood.

What we can expect from this nucleus now is a closer relationship between the family and the prince, after all, it is more than obvious that they are forming together one of the strongest alliances in Westeros. The princess will also get closer to the family Velaryon, being one of the most important for the Dance of Dragons.

Some thoughts on episode 3 of The House of the Dragon

Daemon Targaryen before having a tantrum against the crown (Image: official HBO reproduction).

Unlike last week and the double boiler we had with several situations happening, this episode was a point out of the curve. The construction of conflicts was no longer just between the council and expanded to the court, showing the severity. Public exposure of the conflicts further fueled the future war.

Some characters like Otto High Tower have shown that they will not rest while rhaenira not stop being the heiress. The same goes for characters who defend it. Finally, the succession cooking pressure deployed in the first few chapters is escaping and hitting the fray — what we want most.

One feature that caught my attention in this episode was the presence of grotesque scenes. The first scene is super detailed and tortuous about how the fatten crabs worked, focusing on the villain holding a knight by the hand and putting his pets to feed.

The battle against him is also a bloodthirsty festival with many details of death and combat. Unfortunately, I felt that the villain was played out, lacking in detail, other than the scenes feeding his crabs, and if he had at least a little more attention, he would have been better inserted into the story.

However, the entire episode also had other grotesque scenes. When rhaenira kills the boar with stab wounds, the blood is explicit and is marked in the character, being part of it. So much so that, in the end, her last scene is exactly this: with blood on her neck, on her face, on her skin — showing her future.

the scene of King Viserys hunting follows the same style, showing the torture of the animal, its suffering and also how unhappy the king is. The episode knew how to balance the disgusting effect of so many bloodthirsty scenes with promises, that the next episodes will be worse.

the next episode of The Dragon House will be available on September 11 at 22:XNUMX, Brasília time, on the platforms of HBO Max.
