Compliant information from Deadline, fans can look forward to a new trilogy of Star Wars soon, as production is already underway internally at Lucasfilm. It is not yet known whether these new films will follow the events of Episode IX, released in 2019, but the screenwriter and producer have already been hired. See the first details.
What to expect from Episodes X, XII and XIII
O Deadline points out that fans can expect a direct sequel to 2019's "Rise of Skywalker", with the continuation of the story of Rey, played by Daisy Ridley and with appearances by John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.
However, information from the The Hollywood Reporter e Variety It is said that, in fact, a Star Wars Episode X could actually start a new story, with cameos from faces familiar to fans. It is unclear whether we will see a new story based on the events of previous films or a direct continuation of the 2019 film.
A Lucasfilm did not confirm (or deny) the release of the new Star Wars films, but did contest the post Deadline which indicated the direct sequel to the films released so far. This may indicate that a new story should be released in theaters.
In any case, more concrete information states that Kathleen Kennedy, president and executive producer of Lucasfilm, is leading the new projects that do not have an official name. The production and creation of the scripts would be the responsibility of Simon kinberg.
Lucasfilm recently hired Rian Johnson, director of Knives Out and Star Wars Episode VIII (The Last Jedi). David Benioff and DB Weiss, who created Game of Thrones, are also among the recent hires of the Star Wars production company, but they have not yet had any titles announced. It would make sense that, with the new trilogy in development, they would be allocated to these releases.
Simon Kinberg's Choice
The most concrete information about the new Star Wars films is that Simon kinberg will be largely responsible for this happening, regardless of the story that is told. Kinberg is not unknown in the far-flung Star Wars universe.
He worked on the animated series Star Wars Rebels, producing the episodes alongside Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck for four seasons. Simon also starred as JJ Abrams in Star Wars Episode VII, “The Force Awakens,” which helped revive the saga in 2015 when the partnership with Disney was formed.
He also has experience in other famous productions: he was a producer on both films of Dead Pool, including the one released this year (Deadpoll & Wolverine), in addition to having participated in the production and script creation of all live-action adaptations of X-Men and worked on the script for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
The producer also participated in the production of The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott, and wrote the script for films such as Mr and Mrs Smith (starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) and co-wrote the film that launched the franchise Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. He also produced the Kenneth Branagh-directed film trilogy that began with Murder on the Orient Express.
Release date
A release date for the new films has not yet been announced, but it is known that Disney is preparing to release the film The Mandalorian, with official title of The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.
If there are no other films in 2025 (which at this point seems unlikely), this will be the first time in seven years that we will see a Lucasfilm production in theaters. The last film was Episode IX, which hit theaters on December 19, 2019.
Still in 2024, Star Wars fans will be able to follow Skeleton Crew, on December 03rd. The plot tells the story of a group of children who find themselves lost in the galaxy and desperately search for a way home. The plot takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi, but before The force awakens. Watch the trailer below:
