One week before CES 2024 happens, the new LG OLED smart TV line for this year was presented. With an updated processor with AI features and a high refresh rate in most models, the prediction is that the new OLED M4 (the wireless TV), OLED G4, OLED C4 and OLED B4 be launched between March and April. Check out the initial details.
New technologies
Lenses Micro Lens Array
The Micro Lens Array It has more lenses, capable of producing a greater amount of light per pixel, increasing the bright highlights of the screen even more intensely. This could mean a new era of television OLED, also including heat sink technology, so that the TV screen can be pushed to extremes, achieving good results, but without being damaged in the process.
The novelty made its debut in 2023 with the Panasonic and LG itself, but the Korean company made a point of putting this “increase” in all models it wants to sell in 2024. LG's OLED smart TVs are certified to avoid burn-in, but having a panel that prevents this increases the durability even more.
New α (Alpha) 11 AI processor
Present in the new SIGNATURE OLED M4 e OLED G4, LG highlights that the power of image enhancement via AI is even better, reaching 70% better graphics performance. The information processing speed is also 30% higher compared to the M3 and G3 models launched in 2023.
The company also explains that the technology Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro “divides images into blocks and adjusts brightness and contrast by analyzing variations in brightness where light enters the scene, creating images that appear more three-dimensional.” In practice, it will be possible to have higher quality images by reading the content in real time.
News for gamers
Three of the new OLED smart TVs presented by LG at CES 2024 hit the market with sizes up to 97 inches, with 4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The models are focused on delivering the best for gamers, HDMI 2.1 connections are also available to get the most out of next-generation consoles.
O Game Optimizer has been updated for the year 2024, allowing the screen configuration to be adapted depending on the type of game. Additionally, the company also confirmed support for the NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync to avoid crashes.
AI Sound Pro and WOW Orchestra
O AI SoundPro uses artificial intelligence to emulate an 11.1.2 channel sound system, using only the integrated speakers present in the models, seeking to offer the best experience to everyone in the environment.
Finally, the resource WOW Orchestra allows the sound of the OLED smart TV to be combined like that of a branded soundbar, and both electronics work together to deliver a better sound experience.
updated webOS for discontinued smart TVs
Consumers who purchased LG's 2022 OLED smart TV models did not yet have access to the new operating system, but this is about to change. The company stated in its press release that it will release an update to allow access to the best version of its operating system through the program webOS Re:New.
Five-year upgrade support will also be offered so that all buyers always have access to the latest version of LG's operating system. Among the features of the new 2023 version, it is possible to control other connected devices that are part of the protocol Matter, create up to 18 custom profiles, plus support for Google Chromecast e Apple AirPlay.
It is possible to request features via voice commands and through accessibility cards on the home screen, in addition to being able to access features directly from the home screen.
LG OLED M4, the wireless TV
successor to OLED M3, the model follows the concept of working without wires. To do so, it has a box named after Zero Connect Box, where all signal input and output cables are connected and sends the image and audio wirelessly to the smart TV — and without loss of quality. A Signature OLED M4 will be sold in sizes of 77, 83 and 97 inches — and for the first time in 67 inches. The refresh rate was 144Hz and the resolution is 4K.
An interesting fact is that the OLED M4, which measures 94 inches, will have the Alpha 11 processor, but it will not feature the technology brightness booster max which increases brightness by 150% more compared to the 2023 LG B series. But at least all models support Dolby Atmos, even if the transmission is done wirelessly.
The unique feature Director Tone was explained with a technology that allows buyers to see the series or film “according to the tone the director wanted”, in addition to the features of Upscaling improvements that will be delivered due to the new processor.
LG G4 OLED
Also belonging to the premium category of LG's 2024 OLED smart TV portfolio, the OLED G4 bring the processor Alpha 11, panels with 4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. It will be sold in sizes ranging from 57 and 97 inches, with the feature Micro Lens Array that we mentioned at the beginning of the text.
The resource brightness booster max to deliver more brightness will also be available in this line, but not in all of them: the 97-inch model will not have the feature, and will also have a lower refresh rate (120 Hz). The gaming features seen on the LG OLED M4 will be present on all models in the line LG G4 OLED.
Another new feature regarding the G3 line is that the TV stand will be sent in the box. During 2023, the company forced its customers to make an additional purchase because the models only included VESA mounting for wall installation.
LG OLED-C4
Aimed at the intermediary market, the LG OLED-C4 will be launched with a new generation of processor Alpha 9 AI, which, according to the company, will deliver brighter images than those seen on the OLED C3, including 42-inch and 48-inch models. In 2023, smaller OLED smart TVs did not receive this brightness increase, so the improvement finally applies to all models.
A LG reported that the OLED C4 will be launched in sizes of 42, 48, 55, 65, 75 and 83 inches, with a 144Hz refresh rate and 4K resolution. There will also be support for wireless sound transmission to compatible soundbars without loss of quality, as seen on the OLED M4 and OLED G4.
Gamers will also be able to invest in these models, as features and support for new technologies are available on all models of this new line of OLED smart TVs for 2024.
LG OLED-B4
Closing the news, new features were also announced for the entry-level market. The news LG OLED-B4 will hit the market with a new processor Alpha 8 AI, which promises even more improved performance. The company claims that the image improvements come close to what the Alpha 9 AI delivers, but it remains to be seen how this will work in practice.
The OLED B4 will be launched in sizes of 48, 55, 65 and 78 inches, all with a 120HZ refresh rate and 4K resolution. The models gain two additional HDMI 2.1 ports (the 2023 models only had two ports like this), and are also equipped with gaming features.
Price and availability
With no expected arrival in Brazil until the closing of this article, the LG it also did not disclose international prices for the new models. They are expected to be sold between March and April 2024 abroad and then reach other parts of the world.
The company will be displaying its new models during the CES 2024, which takes place between January 09th and 12th. O showmetech will be present at the technology fair and will tell you all the details as soon as they become available.
