In a nutshell, it is a USB plug that connects to your computer (or any other compatible device), regardless of which side you choose to connect it to.
This eliminates that annoying little problem of trying to “miss the plug side”, especially if you are trying to plug it in from the back of your case/desktop.
It doesn't matter which side you use to fit the device to the port USB, it will connect to the port. One of the inserts will be pushed back by the computer, while the other will support the metallic threads that make the connection.
