Now, the mysteries and magic of this universe return, so we have prepared a guide with the main information you need to know before embarking on this adventure!
It is worth remembering that during the text we will cover some basic mechanics of the game and what has already been officially informed by CAPCOM, in addition to the history of the first Dragons Dogma. So, if you are playing this game or avoiding more information about its sequel, we recommend that you proceed through this text with caution.
Do you need to have played Dragons Dogma 1?
You don't need to have played the first one Dragons Dogma to understand the second. Like this final Fantasy ou The Legend of Zelda, in which each game is an independent story in a unique universe with different characters, the game follows this same line. It takes place in a parallel world, with a new plot and new characters, preserving some fundamental concepts of the universe. This means that the second game's experience is designed to be accessible to everyone, whether you're a longtime fan or someone who's just discovering the series now.
As such, the title is a gateway to its quirky fantasy world, offering a refreshing and engaging experience from the start. It is worth remembering that the story of the first Dragon's dogma revolves around the Arisen (Nascen), a dead person whose heart was taken by a dragon, but who mysteriously returns to life. Arisen's destiny is to embark on a journey to face and defeat this monster.
However, the plot deepens and expands in surprising ways, revealing that the killing is just the beginning. The world changes drastically, becoming more dangerous, and unveils the everfall, a dungeon full of new challenges. Additionally, the game features a significant twist, showing that the Arisen and the dragon are just parts of a larger cycle, involving a battle against the Arisen. Seneschal, a previous Arisen who ascended to a kind of godhood.
The interesting thing is that, although it is not essential to play the first game to understand or appreciate the second, knowing the lore original series can enrich your experience with the Dragon's Dogma 2. The game takes advantage of the opportunity to follow or subvert the expectations set by the first, exploring the concept of cycles in a way that may surprise new players and veterans alike.
What is the story of Dragons Dogma 2?
Although deeper details of the story are not yet available, the CAPCOM released a 90-second video that summarizes the essential events, preparing players to embark on this epic adventure. Below is the main summary of the game's plot.
Em dragon's dogma 2, we are transported to a scenario where the conflict between two warring kingdoms grows, Vermund e Battahl. Vermund is a kingdom inhabited by humans, while Battahl is home to elves and the creatures known as Beastrens. Each of these lands has its own cultures and traditions, which revolve around the mythology of the Arisen — a sacred hero tasked with defeating a great Dragon responsible for the world's apocalypse. At the beginning of the adventure, the protagonist is designated as the new Arisen after a clash with the great Dragon, which grants him the power to summon pawns, NPC allies from other worlds.
As the protagonist and his group set out in search of the great Dragon, they find themselves embroiled in a significant geopolitical conflict between the kingdoms. In the midst of missions and the formation of new alliances, they encounter cult leaders and rivals who covet the status of the Arisen's holy figure for themselves. The journey will lead the heroes to better understand the internal turmoil of the warring kingdoms and make crucial decisions about the best way to save the people of these lands and prevent the end of times.
Who is Arisen?
During this text, you may have noticed that Arisen is an important character in the plot of the universe of Dragons Dogma. He is a being chosen from among mortals, destined to face the great Dragon in a decisive battle for the fate of the world.
The connection between both characters goes beyond the physical world, symbolized by a scar on the Arisen's chest. This mark not only represents a physical connection, but also allows the Dragon to communicate directly with the Arisen. Additionally, the story's protagonist is also not subject to aging or disease, although he can still meet death in battle.
Its existence is intrinsically linked to the Dragon; Arisen's immortality endures as long as the heart, retained by the Dragon, is not recovered. However, once the Dragon is defeated, time resumes its course for the protagonist, who will age rapidly for the period the heart was held.
As your adventure progresses, the Arisen develops into an entity of unparalleled power, mastering superhuman abilities. He gains mastery over a range of weapons and demonstrates enough magical ability to decimate armies of men and monsters with ease. Capable of summoning devastating natural phenomena and defeating immense creatures with simple enchantments, the Arisen becomes resistant to almost all forms of attack.
However, the magnitude of his power does not exempt him from the universal laws of causality and destiny. Even with all his achievements, Arisen remains tied to the eternal cycle, being a pillar on which the world revolves, his will to persevere essential to existence itself.
What are Pawns?
One of the most important resources for the protagonist in the game's story are the Pawns, NPCs from another world that can be summoned through magic and help him in the adventure. With each new journey, you can create a completely customizable secondary character to be the main one, however, you don't have to limit yourself to just that.
One of the online functions available in Dragon's Dogma 2 is the ability to access the Rift, a community that houses pawns created by other players and can also be recruited for their adventures. Although the game itself can also generate these NPCs, using those created by the community is even more interesting.
However, what makes these pawns unique? Your ability to evolve. As they go on adventures — with you or with other protagonists through the online Rift — they receive different knowledge and items during different adventures. Therefore, he can later share with you the weapons and other equipment he receives, as well as his knowledge.
This information can even be useful when you are faced with an enemy that, to be defeated, requires a specific strategy or when you are unsure whether there are secondary missions in a new area that you have just arrived at. Pedestrians, through the knowledge they gain on these journeys, then have valuable data to help you.
What classes are available in Dragon's Dogma 2?
Get to know the classes Dragon's Dogma 2, also called vocations, is fundamental when embarking on each mission on your journey through the game's universe. A good combination between Arisen, his main pawn and the additional ones he can summon is important to increase the team's strengths and also cover the team's weaknesses.
In total, there will be 10 classes available in the game, some of which will be available from the beginning of the adventure, while others you can acquire as the character gets stronger. However, it is worth remembering that not all of these vocations will be available to Pawns, as they are exclusive to Arisen.
Below, we have separated the main information for each one, so you can prepare in advance before starting your journey.
Combatant
Em Dragon's Dogma 2, one of the basic vocations available to players is Combatant. Armed with a one-handed sword and a shield, he is more geared towards defense than inflicting massive damage on enemies. This choice makes the class a kind of tank on the front lines of combat, whose role is not only to protect itself, but also its teammates. They bravely place themselves at the forefront, drawing enemy attacks and ensuring that the focus of the battle remains on them.
As the combatant progresses, there is the opportunity to improve skills related to the shield, providing even greater protection for the group. Considering what was seen in the previous game, it is likely that there will also be skills designed to provoke enemies, causing them to focus their attacks on that character.
Archer
Archers in combat attack their enemies from a distance, dealing physical damage without exposing themselves to danger. Due to their defense not being the most robust, they compensate with agility, moving quickly across the battlefield to stay out of attack range and find the ideal position to shoot. Instead of delivering single, powerful blows, archers rely on their speed and skill to launch multiple arrows in a row.
As you develop your Archer, you unlock abilities that allow you to shoot arrows more quickly or even shoot multiple arrows simultaneously. Additional abilities increase your mobility, making it easier to disengage and increasing the distance between you and advancing enemies, thus granting a strategic advantage in combat.
Thief
The Thief vocation specializes in applying rapid bursts of melee damage to enemies. Without the defensive capabilities of a Combatant, Thieves need to avoid being surrounded by groups of enemies, as, in the previous game, they also did not have area attacks. However, they excel in combat against bosses or other tough enemies, especially when they are alone.
As a Thief, his characteristic is his high mobility, allowing him to attack quickly several times, without depending on a single powerful blow. Although damage per hit tends to decrease with each successive hit, the advantage lies in the volume of attacks performed. As the Thief evolves, he improves not only his damage, but also his agility, skillfully dodging attacks and climbing large creatures to inflict critical hits more easily.
Wizard
Em Dragon's Dogma 2, the vocation of wizard stands out as a fundamental option for those interested in the arcane arts. They have the unique ability to cast spells that play a variety of roles on the battlefield, from devastating attacks to defensive support and healing for the team. In the first game in the franchise, they were also the only ones capable of healing their allies, becoming essential pieces in any group formation.
Although they have vulnerabilities in hand-to-hand combat, mages can become true destructive forces if they can maintain a safe distance from enemies. Their ability to cast powerful offensive spells, combined with the versatility of their skills, gives mages a prominent role on the battlefield.
Warrior
The advanced vocation of Warrior attracts players who choose to exchange the shield, characteristic of Fighters, for more resistant armor and vigorous physical resistance. Despite not being as unshakable as Fighters in terms of defense, Warriors stand out for their significant increase in damage. Mastering two-handed weapons, such as greatswords and hammers, they have the ability to concentrate energy to execute powerful and decisive attacks.
In the Warrior position, exclusive skills are available, allowing attacks to cover multiple opponents simultaneously with a single blow. In the previous title, these fighters also played a crucial role in controlling large groups of enemies, leaving them stunned with their impacts. The Warrior vocation is ideal for those who want a strong presence in battles, achieving a perfect balance between powerful offensive and tactical control over opponents.
Sorcerer
Another advanced vocation, the Sorcerer in Dragon's Dogma 2 takes your magical manipulation skills to a higher level. They specialize in ranged magical attacks and use both hands to channel arcane energy through large staffs. They will have access to spells capable of dealing area damage, making them more effective than their Wizard predecessors. However, the price of this power is the need for more time to charge and cast such spells.
Being a spell caster, defense is still a weak point, and vulnerability to direct attacks remains. Field position is crucial; it is necessary to keep the Sorcerer at a safe distance from opponents. Being hit while channeling a spell can interrupt the conjuration, forcing you to seek shelter and start the process again. The Sorcerer vocation has its challenges, but mastering it can make it devastating on the battlefield.
Magic Archer
The Magic Archer, also an advanced vocation, has attacks performed with pure magic. Even his arrows will be magical in nature. This class primarily engages in long-range combat, combining its bow attacks with its mystical abilities.
A Magical Archer's arrows are far superior to their physical counterparts, as they always hit their intended target. Additionally, you can specifically choose what element your arrows will be, allowing you to target enemies based on their specific weaknesses.
Mystic Spearman
The Mystic Spearman is an advanced and unprecedented vocation of Dragon's Dogma 2, which bears similarities to the Mystic Knight from the original game. This class is versatile, mastering both hand-to-hand combat and magic, which gives it the ability to attack opponents both up close and from afar. This way, you will fight and deal physical damage with a specialized weapon called a Duospear. This exclusive weapon allows you to attack multiple enemies at the same time.
Additionally, some of its spells promise control capabilities, making the Mystic Spearman effective in manipulating the battlefield. You will also have the ability to paralyze your enemies or even throw the bodies of defeated opponents against other attackers, thus standing out for your versatility and strategic potential in combat.
Illusionist
The Illusionist stands out for his art of masterfully deceiving and confusing his enemies. Using their exclusive weapon, the Censer, they are capable of producing illusions through smoke, manipulating the battlefield in their favor. His creations can induce enemies to attack each other or serve as bait, drawing all attacks towards a spectral clone. Another particularly interesting ability allows you to create fake areas of terrain along cliffs or walls, visible only to you and not enemies, thus exploiting your opponent's vulnerabilities.
Additionally, as an Illusionist, you have the power to temporarily increase the power of your Pawns beyond their normal limits, significantly expanding your team's capabilities. While the specific details are still a mystery, it is likely that the Illusionist will have other specialized buffs, reinforcing his vital support role in the game.
War Chief
This class gives you the freedom to choose any combination of three weapons available in the game, allowing you to switch between the vocations corresponding to those weapons. As a War Chief, you will have the flexibility to select skills from each of your chosen weapons/vocations.
This vocation promises to be incredibly fun and versatile, adapting your play style by facing different types of enemies, exploiting their weaknesses and navigating different environments. However, due to having access to a wide range of skills, War Chiefs may not reach the same level of skill as other vocations.
Will Dragon's Dogma 2 have multiplayer?
Unfortunately, for fans who have been waiting for the opportunity to venture through Dragon's Dogma 2 with a friend, the game will not feature any form of multiplayer or cooperation, as it was in the original game. According to Hideaki Itsuno, producer of the franchise, he does not want to deviate from the original idea and at no point was this possibility considered.
Therefore, the only interaction between players will be the possibility of using Pawns created by the community on their team during the journey. Other than that, unfortunately, there will be nothing else.
Will there be romance in Dragon's Dogma 2?
There is still no official confirmation about the inclusion of the Romance System in Dragon's Dogma 2, but statements from director Hideaki Itsuno suggest the presence of romantic and sexual elements in the game. In an interview with IGN, Itsuno highlighted that the game will feature interactions of this type, which justifies its R rating, although he ruled out the inclusion of explicit sexual content.
The director also talked about improvements to the relationship system, which now encompasses both friendships and casual interactions. Players may witness NPCs competing for their attention or notice changes in relationships with other characters, influenced by positive or negative attitudes.
This information fueled fans' expectations for a renewed version of the Romance System, although there is no confirmation. So, for now, we can only wait for more details about the development of relationships in the game.
