Equipped with a 64 MB main camera, a tool that uses artificial intelligence to erase objects and people in photos and the promise of delivering high battery life, the OPPO Reno11 F 5G can be found on the Brazilian market for the average price of £ 2.999. See what we think of the competitor Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G.
Design
The variant sent for testing to Showmetech was the Purple Coral, a soft lilac composed of shiny particles on the back. A green version, called palm green, which features layers in shades of emerald and leaves, was also launched in Brazil. The model weighs 177 grams, which makes it easy to use for hours without causing discomfort.
Visually, there is no denying that the OPPO Reno11 F 5G It is beautiful in all its versions. The 3D effect is something reminiscent of precious stones and will certainly attract attention wherever you go. One detail I liked is that a transparent cover is sent inside the box, so you don't need to buy anything else.
Its more rounded edges are not my favorite on smartphones, but using the device for two weeks, whether for taking photos or playing games, was very comfortable. It also has a good grip that prevents it from slipping, even when using it with just one hand.
It is worth mentioning the IP67 protection: the well-sealed screen allows the OPPO smartphone to be resistant to water and dust for greater long-term durability. The model cannot be immersed in water, but having this protection against splashes and splashes is a positive point.
There are only three buttons: one to turn the screen on and off and two more to change the volume. The fingerprint sensor is below the screen, allowing good use of the device with just one hand.
Looking at the bottom, we have the USB-C input that can be used for charging and listening to wired music, without the possibility of fitting a P2-type headset. It is in this part of the device that the speakers are also located.
This device has a very simple look, but it's that famous simple thing that works. Its rounded edges allow you to use it for hours without discomfort and it also fits in any pocket without attracting attention. Finally, the fingerprint reader under the screen arrives to allow quick access to the operating system.
Fabric
With a 6,7-inch display, the FHD+ screen resolution is enough to deliver a good visual experience with the support of HDR10+ on the screen to see more vivid colors. The AMOLED panel also reaches a peak brightness of 1.100 nits, sufficient for viewing images and videos outdoors.
However, as this is an intermediate model, there is no point in expecting the experience of a more premium model in this case. OPPO smartphone. The peak brightness above 1.100 nits is great, but there were situations on sunny days when I needed to go to a shady place.
It's not a bad thing: in fact, it was exactly what I expected from a model that is part of the category in which it was placed. The refresh rate, which varies between 60 Hz, 90 Hz and 120 Hz, is also enough to deliver a good fluid experience between applications, in addition to the use of everyday applications such as WhatsApp, Chrome and TikTok.
The big icing on the cake here would be a brighter screen or with the extra brightness feature for a small increase, but we also have a good experience in 90% of usage situations.
Processor
Although many brands opt for processors from Qualcomm on your smartphones, here we have the Mediatek Dimension 7050 with six nanometer architecture and maximum clock speed of 2,6 GHz.
During everyday use, the device can run heavier games such as callofduty, Free Fire e Asphalt 9 no problem. processors of Mediatek They've performed very well on other devices I've tested, so there were no surprises here.
An interesting factor that I would like to mention in the review is Fluidity Protection, which the company explains as performance protection. Through optimizations, both software and hardware, the OPPO Reno11 F 5G has undergone rigorous testing to ensure a continuous and fluid experience, even after prolonged use.
Despite not having a vapor chamber, the heat management worked very well, with the device getting a little hotter (far from being a nuisance) after about an hour of playing. But remember to remove the case when using the device for heavier tasks for a long time.
I had the model for two weeks and I didn't experience any crashes, which gives me the confidence to say that the processor is communicating very well with the operating system. Oppo.
System and interface
The device hits the market with the ColorOS 14.0, based on Android 14. And there's an interesting thing: due to being part of the same group that controls Realme (BBK Electronics), you can see that the brand was based on quite at Realme UI to develop the system for the Oppo Reno11 F 5G.
Actually, I'm being very simple: it's literally the same operating system, on different models. My everyday smartphone is a Realme 12 Pro+ and I couldn't miss the similarity. See the comparison with the Realme model (on the left) and the Oppo model (on the right):
Despite this curiosity, what worked on my daily smartphone also worked here: there are good customization options for the entire operating system, Always-on display and it is even possible to change native application icons.
I would just make the switch to more rounded icons, as this squarer appearance bothers me a little. But taste is taste, right?
A tool that I really like and is also available on ColorOS is the smart sidebar that allows you to quickly access some applications at any time.
But, the same errors that I've seen on my Realme are here: I still can't take full control of the media running without unlocking the screen, plus there's a small general bug: even when I organize the shortcuts in the control bar, it always returns to the official system configuration when the model is restarted.
Furthermore, I really liked the operating system. OPPO Reno11 F 5G because it is the same as the model I use in my daily life. Some bugs are still present, so the biggest hope is that this will change with the release of Android 15 for the device.
The company promises two years of updates for its smartphone, which places the model as an option that will reach Android 16. And there will also be 4 years of security package updates.
AI use
The big surprise: the use of AI in this model's photo editing is incredible. The operating system was trained to recognize 120 categories of objects and the tool called AI Eraser requires an internet connection, but its results are quite incredible for an intermediate category device.
This is the first time the tool has been included in an OPPO mid-range device.
Using it is very simple: when you click on the editing pen, you access the AI Erase tool. THE Smart loop (my favorite) allows you to circle what needs to be deleted and the AI handles the rest of the work. THE Paint It's similar: you scribble what should be deleted from the photo and the AI does the rest of the work.
Both modes of use are very assertive and managed to erase objects and people so that we have a good photo to post on social media. See the before and after:
As not everything is perfect: the AI has some difficulty erasing shadows, so it may be necessary to erase this after the intruding person or object has been erased by the AI. It's as if a second hand is necessary for you to get the perfect photo.
But in 95% of cases, this worked and the use is also very smooth. This is quite a success, especially considering that the most assertive AI tools were only seen in models above R$3.
A OPPO seems to have understood that in order to be successful among people who don't want to spend a lot when buying a smartphone, it is important to add value to their models. Big point for the Chinese brand here.
Memory and storage
The version launched in Brazil has 256 GB of internal storage and with the support of a memory card, you can have an additional 2 TB. A cool point to mention here is that companies are avoiding including the memory card tray in their models, so it's worth mentioning this positive point more.
The device also has 8 GB of physical RAM, which can be expanded to up to 16 GB through the virtual RAM feature that has become more famous and has become a standard among devices in different categories.
8 GB of RAM is more than enough to run heavier applications and games without problems, but having even more performance through virtual RAM is quite a point. What was already good is now great.
Connectivity
Due to its processor, the device can connect to 5G networks, in addition to supporting Wi-Fi 6 and a Bluetooth 5.2 antenna. That said, we have the best of all worlds in terms of what you can expect from an intermediate smartphone in the R$2.999 price range.
It's not something I've missed in my daily life, but it's important to know that it doesn't accept e-SIMs, so you'll have to make do with the tray to use up to two nanoSIMs at the same time.
Battery and charging
Chinese companies are ahead of smartphone manufacturers from other brands and this becomes even clearer with the OPPO. To Reno 11F 5G, there are 5.000 milliamps that allow the device to stay on for a whole day for everyday use such as social networks and even some games.
In my tests, just using Wi-Fi, I managed to get two days of battery life, between taking photos, using social networks and also running heavier games like Call Of Duty. In one hour of playing the FPS game, the battery went from 100% to 86%.
The charger sent in the box has a capacity of 67W and a USB-A to USB-C cable is also present. From 15% to 100%, the device took 47 minutes to plug in. See the screenshot below:
That said, the famous number of 5.000 milliamps is enough to deliver good autonomy for users who don't demand much from their device.
Rear cameras
For the set of lenses on the rear, there is a 64 MP main lens, as well as an ultra-wide one for photos with a larger field of view that takes photos at up to 8 MP and another 2 MP macro sensor for capturing depth.
In traditional capture mode, the main lens can perform well outdoors during the day, but there are some errors in color correction that left me with grayer skin than it is in real life. But I noticed that when there is too much light, the post-processing algorithm has trouble delivering good photos. This image below has a 3x zoom (already digital):
It is possible to use the 2x optical zoom, but it is also possible to capture at 0.6x and 1x, without zoom. Above that, the camera starts to use digital zoom which, as we expect, can't do much and after 5x noise starts to appear.
In portrait mode, due to a feature called Portrait Specialist, the result of a collaboration with professional photographers from around the world, uses facial recognition and scene separation to optimize faces and objects in a natural way. The backgrounds are blurred with good assertiveness for recording happy moments, in addition to being possible to change the blurred background in the native gallery.
Regarding use at night, a small correction of the light input will give you good records. This is supported by AI correction, which does a good job here. But remember not to open the shutter for too long to avoid blowing everything out, which was my case in some situations.
Video recording can be done in 4K resolution at 30 fps, but when using stable mode, this drops to 1080p at 60 fps (FHD+). Videos with the optical stabilizer are the most assertive, but 4K videos, even if this is not activated, are of excellent quality. This photo was taken at 3x zoom:
The model's rear lenses are a good option for those who like to have good quality footage but at the same time don't want to invest in a premium intermediary that is above 3K. AI lenses are welcome and the automatic correction algorithm leaves nothing to be desired at any time.
And finally, it's worth highlighting the other capture possibilities: the high resolution mode is the big icing on the cake, alongside Macro, which also performs very well when put to the test.
It is also possible to use the Pro mode, a slow motion mode (which records up to 1080p at 480 fps) and videos with all lenses being used at the same time.
Frontal camera
A 32 MP lens It doesn't have autofocus, so you'll have to get used to touching the screen and waiting for the camera app to recognize it. The color correction and photo processing algorithm is also very assertive here, with no problems altering my skin tone.
Through the front lens, it is possible to record videos in 4K resolution at 30 fps, but this also drops to 1080p at 30 fps when the stabilizer is activated. It's not a bad thing, but it would be better if you were able to record stabilized content in high quality, especially given the fact that there is social media compression.
That said, the content capture experience is within what we expect for a mid-range model: nothing low quality, but nothing high quality either.
Price and availability
Launched in Brazil on August 02, 2024, the device can be found on the internet for an average price of R$2.900. See the options we found:
It is worth remembering that the device is considered a competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, which can be found by R$ 2.489,91 in the Free Market and BRL 2.489,99 at Magazine Luiza.
What's in the box?
- Chip tray eject key
- Instruction manual
- 67W charger
- USB-C cable
- Reinforced silicone protective cover
Conclusion
O OPPO Reno11 F 5G It is a mid-range smartphone. This means that it has functions that characterize it neither as an “entry intermediary” nor as a “premium intermediary”. He is just an intermediary. And that's okay. The device arrives to deliver an interesting everyday usage experience that can surprise in some cases, even more so due to its great AI.
However, this is not a model worth the suggested price: for R$2.900, it is possible to find more complete options on the market, such as the Samsung S23FE (which can currently be found by R$ 2.888 in its 256 GB version), which has cool AI features, takes great photos and videos, and will stay updated for longer.
The feeling that remains is that the brand made a mistake in carrying out a market study to set an initial price like this, but it is a device that should be analyzed closely as the months go by. Around R$2.300 is about right for this device, but if it is below that, the cost-benefit is accurate.
