After 35 years of the launch of The ghosts have fun (1988), a Warner Bros. Pictures released today, Thursday, May 23rd, during CinemaCon 2024, and then on all its social networks, the first official trailer for Ghosts Still Have Fun: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (titled simply as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in the original English). The film, which serves as a sequel to the 1988 classic, will bring Michael Keaton e Winona Ryder reprising their roles, as well as new successful names, such as Jenna Ortega, star of Wednesday.

Plot

According to the official synopsis, the iconic mischievous demon has returned for more supernatural adventures. After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family reunite in their old Winter River home. Lydia, still haunted by Beetlejuice, sees her life turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the city in the attic. Unintentionally, Astrid opens the portal to the afterlife, triggering a series of supernatural events.
With trouble brewing in both the world of the living and the world of the dead, it's only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice's name three times to bring the demon back and send the world into complete chaos.

Cast

When it comes to casting, Ghosts Still Have Fun went further and brought back actors and characters from the first 1988 feature. Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice, and Winona Ryder, Lydia Deetz, return as the protagonists, reprising their successful roles.
But of course, to compose this super production, today's highly successful actors were also cast, such as Jenna Ortega, star of Wednesday (2022) from Netflix, who will play Lydia Deetz's daughter.

besides her, Willem Dafoe, known for his role as Green Goblin in the classic trilogy of Spider-Man, and Monica Bellucci, recognized for her work in Malena (2000) and in the saga Matrix, are also in the cast. Other names like Catherine O'Hara e Justin Theroux complete the cast.
Direction

As in the 1988 film, the direction was in charge of Tim Burton, American filmmaker, producer and screenwriter responsible for major cinema productions, such as Edward Scissor Hands (1990) The Corpse Bride (2005), and the production of Jack's wierd world (1993). He recently worked on the series Wednesday (2022) from Netflix, with Jenna Ortega, who is also cast in her new film. Burton is known worldwide for his unique style, which mixes dark elements with a touch of humor and fantasy, characteristics that will certainly be present in his newest work.
The Success of Beetlejuice (1988)
The film is considered a classic and was a great success at the time of its release, due to its ability to mix fantasy elements of terror on comedy in an innovative way. The work raised approximately $75M monthly at the global box office and also won an Oscar in the category of best makeup in the 1989 edition.
In the first film, after dying in a car accident, Barbara and Adam Maitland find themselves trapped, haunting their old home. Things change when a new family moves in, bringing their teenage daughter, Lydia, with them. Trying to scare the new residents, Barbara and Adam fail repeatedly, until their attempts end up attracting a loud spirit. This spirit, instead of helping, becomes a dangerous threat to both the ghost couple and the innocent Lydia.

At the beginning of the trailer, we soon learn of the death of Lydia's father and then we see her daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, conjuring the ghost Beetlejuice after an argument with her mother. We can also observe the horrifying scenarios created by director Tim Burton, accompanied by a version of Day O's “Banana Boat” soundtrack, which was marked by the dinner scene in the first film.
Release date

The new trailer was not the only news released by Warner. With the trailer, Warner Bros. Pictures also released a official poster announcing the film's release date. And fans can celebrate, as they won't have to wait long to see the film's sequel on the big screen, as the film is scheduled to premiere on the same day. September 5th, 2024 in all Brazilian cinemas.
