Overwatch 2 arrived for free and brought small changes compared to the previous game. Despite its “new painting”, the basis and essence of this hero shooter remains untouched in its updated 2022 version. But whether you're a newcomer or a veteran, this Overwatch 2 guide is for you who want to get better at play!
Check out:
Meet the new characters
In this first season of Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment introduced three new characters, each falling into one of three classes. If you're an Overwatch veteran, getting to know these new characters can be essential to jump into new online matches.
sojourn
The first character featured in Overwatch 2 was sojourn, a DPS that focuses on accurate and fast shots with its high powered weapon. Its abilities were created so that the player could deal a lot of damage in a short time, but be aware that the health bar is relatively small.
Their skills are:
- Power Swipe – Sojourn will slide across the floor you are walking on, gaining more speed. When jumping during the slide, Sojourn will make a greater jump than the other characters, being able to create some vantage points around the map;
- Disruptive Shot – She launches an energy bomb that traps all nearby enemies, slowing them down. The bomb also deals ongoing damage to anyone caught in the blast;
- Overload – As you shoot, the weapon generates extra energy that allows you to do more damage and pierce enemy barriers.
It's there
Kiriko is a healer but she also plays a nice damage role for the team. Her healing is one of the fastest of all characters in the class, and her kunai deal massive damage when a critical hit is landed.
Their skills are:
- quick step – Kiriko teleports to an ally's location. This skill is essential to help your teammates quickly, or even to run away from any imminent danger;
- protective suzu – Casts a protective amulet that makes allies invulnerable, as well as removing any debuffs cast. It's important to note that the invulnerability lasts a few seconds, so stay tuned when using the skill;
- Kitsune race – Kiriko summons a fox spirit that runs in a straight line, increasing the movement and attack speed of all teammates that are within the created area.
Junker Queen
Queen Junker is part of the Overwatch 2 team of tanks and stands out for being more focused on dealing damage to enemies than holding back the other team's advance. She uses a shotgun to shoot up close, and her abilities are far more offensive than we'd expect from other tanks:
- serrated blade – This skill has two phases. In the first, the Queen throws her knife at an enemy, dealing damage over time. In the second phase, the Queen can call back the knife, dealing damage to all caught in the way;
- War cry – Grants health and movement speed for a while to you and your allies;
- Carnage – The Queen pulls a giant ax and wounds all enemies in front, dealing bleed damage over time;
- Slaughter - A ultimate skill Queen's Junker allows her to attack all enemies in front of her, dealing damage over time and preventing any healing from being performed for a brief period.
Now that you know a little about the new characters, it's time to put them to practice in quick matches.
Queue by role
One of the best tips in Overwatch 2 is to play within organized queues. Overwatch 2 offers two queues for players who want to participate in online matches, but each has its main advantages and disadvantages.
In the role queue, as the name suggests, the player must choose to play between Tank, Hurt ou Support. In this way, every game you play will be filled with players in the exact position, without the possibility of a support changing to damage, for example.
That said, you can already imagine what the open queue allows… Yes, in the open queue there is no restriction on positions within the game, being able to have matches with 3 tanks, 5 damage or even 4 supports. This queue is a good choice for anyone who just wants to play a quick game or try out a new character, but it can cause a massive headache for anyone who likes the competitive aspect of Overwatch.
Unfortunately, if you're playing solo and need to get into matches with random people, there's a high chance that your team won't have the right synergy, with many players even refusing to communicate, but role queue helps to minimize this problem. Since everyone wants to be damage and no one wants to be support, finding a match with the role queue can take a little longer than usual.
Keep shooting!
The best tip I can give you when talking about combat in Overwatch is for you to keep shooting! While accuracy is important, keeping moving and shooting can be the key to coming out victorious in an in-game brawl.
This can be difficult to do right away, but practice shooting and moving at the same time in the training area. I guarantee that mastering this will increase your chances of winning matches.
Play with all characters for a while
There are 34 playable characters in Overwatch 2, and each one delivers a different form of gameplay. If you're a newbie, it's obvious that no one is going to expect you to know all the mechanics of all the characters, so I recommend that you test them all for a while before deciding on a character."main".
But don't worry about knowing everything as soon as possible. You'll often learn what to do with the character as you play with them in matches, and if you find yourself not enjoying the gameplay, just switch characters! By the way…
Don't be afraid to switch characters
Overwatch 2 allows you to change your character mid-game without any kind of in-game reprimand. That is, if you are playing a game with a Winston and you realize that you are not able to hold the enemy team's advance, the game encourages you to switch characters in the respawn room to some other character that has more synergy with the current team.
That said, don't be afraid to switch characters mid-game! Always try to keep an eye on whether your character is coping well with the challenges of the match, and if necessary, run to base and switch to another character more compatible with your playstyle. Also don't forget to ask your team what they suggest, as you can also suggest that your teammates switch characters to improve their chance of winning.
You are not playing alone, wait for your team!
Although it seems obvious, it is important to emphasize that Overwatch 2 is not an individual game like Call of Duty, Apex Legends and others of the genre. Overwatch was created as a competitive team-based game, and this is present in every game in the game.
Respect your role within the game, and don't try to be the hero without making sure you can carry out several eliminations at once. A tank can only be a tank if it has support on its side, and damage can only do the necessary damage to the enemy if it has the support of other players. Respect your in-game limits, and you will surely see the number of wins rising in your account.
Play aim!
Yes, this is important to say. If you want to win, you has that play the goal! You will be surprised when you realize that many people enter matches and forget this detail, and it is quite possible for you to be nervous when you lose a match because your team simply forgot to take care of the cargo that was being transported to the final objective.
So don't be afraid to communicate with your team (without being toxic, please). If you find that your team's coordination is lacking and that the objective is being dropped in favor of winning some kill, don't forget to use text chat or voice chat to ask your teammates to gather. Also don't forget that the game has its own quick communication tool, where you can send signals to your team and give game orders.
See if it's worth getting the Battle Pass
These days, no competitive game is complete without the Battle Pass. Overwatch 2 threw out the crate system (or loot boxes) of its predecessor and implemented the system of battle pass com 80 Tiers of progression. To subscribe to the battle pass, the user must spend 1000 coins, or about R$46 reais.
Although not mandatory, having the battle pass creates a new sense of progression for players who like to collect virtual goodies like skins, amulets and many other goodies. But don't worry, if you don't buy the premium battle pass you'll still be able to level up, earning some free prizes (including access to new characters).
To level up, simply complete daily, weekly and seasonal challenges. You also gain experience by finishing matches, earning you a bonus if you emerge victorious.
Here are some tips to help you, newbie or veteran, adjust to the new (but familiar) world of Overwatch 2. Did you like what you saw? Tell us in the comments!
