Modem-RF Advanced will be launched in the second half of 2023 to deliver better connectivity, security and use of AI with the new generation of 5G

The next generation of mobile internet, which goes by the name of 5G Advanced, has everything to deliver a series of benefits. Keeping an eye on this trend, the Qualcomm announced his first Modem-RF Advanced with support for connections to smartphones, tablets, desktops and notebooks. Among the gains, we will have greater connectivity, coverage, latency, energy efficiency and mobility.

The company also announced the first dedicated fixed wireless access (FWA) platform 5G Advanced-ready of the world with support for networks mmWave, Sub-6GHz e Wi-Fi 7🇧🇷 Check the details right now.

What is 5G Advanced?

Announced in 2021, the 5G Advanced it is the next generation of 5G networks. The main gains will be in network slicing and the use of artificial intelligence, since connections will now have access to greater speed and, above all, better network management so that the same point can be used by several devices at the same time.

Another positive 5G Advanced is in data sharing, as data exchange capture will finally be accepted as securely as possible. In addition, there will be better cloud service and communication software for operators in different types of market: mobile networks for smartphones and homes, private networks and more market ramifications.

Implementation is scheduled for 2024, with the launch of the Release 18. This is the set of norms that must be followed by companies that wish to offer the new network to their customers. The forecast of ABI Research mentions that 5 million smartphones will be distributed in this first moment. This volume will rise to 88 million in 2025 and then to 242 million (2026) and 482 million (2027).

Snapdragon X75: Qualcomm's Modem-RF Advanced arrives to change industry

The novelty arrives to support the 5G Advanced on smartphones and tablets, but the Modem-RF Advanced could also be used in automotive, computing, industrial IoT, fixed wireless access and 5G private networks.

Gains include better connectivity boundaries including coverage, latency, energy efficiency and mobility. Companies developing 5G technologies have the sky as their limit and the Qualcomm hopes that new experiences will be improved in sectors of the most diverse types. It will also be possible to have better management of AI technologies so that our daily lives are more dynamic.

As it has a new architecture developed just for the 5G Advanced, Qualcomm mentions that the new antenna-modem has easy scalability and performance never seen in the industry. The main features are:

  • The world's first 10-carrier aggregation for mmWave, downlink 5x and MIMO of uplink FDD for sub-6 GHz bands, which enable unrivaled spectrum aggregation and capacity;
  • Converged transceiver for mmWave and sub-6 paired with new fifth generation mmWave antenna modules Qualcomm QTM565 reduce cost, board complexity, and power consumption;
  • Improved sustained performance across all user scenarios including elevators, subway trains, airports, garages, mobile gaming sessions and more.
  • AI-based sensor-assisted mmWave beam management for superior connectivity reliability and AI-based location accuracy enhancements;
  • Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 4 e Qualcomm RF Power Efficiency Suite to extend battery life;
  • Qualcomm DSDA Gen 2 enable 5G/4G Dual Data on two SIM cards simultaneously;
  • Qualcomm Smart Transmit Gen 4 enables fast, reliable, long-range uploads — and now including support for Snapdragon Satellitee.

The launch expectation is that commercial devices with the new RF-Advanced modem reach the world market during the second half of 2023.

Qualcomm FWA Gen 3 is new platform for better connectivity

Another novelty announced today and fueled by the Snapdragon X75 is the platform that will allow fixed wireless access (FWA) 5G Advanced-ready. Moving away from the complexity, Qualcomm will deliver support for mmWave, Sub-6GHz and Wi-Fi 7, including 10Gb Ethernet capability. It is expected that many companies make good use of wireless broadband so that every device in the same house has access to the speed of a fiber-type internet.

The company also cites that the same platform has a quad-core CPU and hardware acceleration dedicated and designed for companies to achieve maximum performance of 5G, Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks.

A Qualcomm FWA Gen 3 it will also be able to enable a range of applications for mobile operators to provide wireless internet speeds through 5G networks in rural, suburban and dense urban areas, without the need to have a super structure seen only in large capitals. These are the main features of the new platform:

  • Converged mmWave-Sub-6 hardware architecture to reduce footprint, cost, board complexity and power consumption;
  • Qualcomm Dynamic Antenna Steering Gen 2 for improved self-installation capabilities;
  • Qualcomm RF Sensing Suite to enable indoor mmWave CPE deployments;
  • Qualcomm Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7, supporting channels up to 320MHz with specialized Multi-Link operation for faster latency, reliable connections and mesh capability for seamless coverage;
  • Flexible software architecture with support for multiple frameworks, including OpenWRT and RDK-B;
  • With Dual SIM, the Gen3 platform supports 5G Dual-SIM Dual Active (DSDA) and Dual-SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) configurations.
