Available in Brazil since April 2024, the Galaxy Book4 Pro is the “middle brother” of the Korean company’s premium notebook line. With a 14-inch screen and processor Intel CoreUltra 7, one of the first AI PC models in Samsung hits the market with a suggested price starting at R$9.999, but can now be purchased for R$8.999. Check out our full usage analysis right now.
Design
I need to begin this analysis by commenting that the Galaxy Book4 Pro It's much lighter than I imagined: it weighs just 1,23 kilos, almost half the weight of my traditional notebook. The model was launched only in black, one that bears the name of Black Graphite. Despite being very minimalist, this color is also very elegant.
The touchpad is also large and, although I am someone who uses the mouse more than this part of the notebook, having a good area to touch it is a huge improvement. The keyboard follows the ABNT2 standard, but with some losses due to size.
What I missed most in the first few days of use was the numeric keypad in the right corner, since my personal notebook has that. But, over time, you get used to using the number line on the keyboard, below the function keys.
As a person with large hands, I had a little trouble adapting to using the new keyboard, but the keys are not as small as they seem. When purchasing a 14-inch model, you will have to miss out on a few things. But then, it's a double-edged sword: if you need a light and small model, it's worth leaving the numeric keys and a few other shortcut buttons in the name of mobility.
It's also worth remembering that this model and the others in the Galaxy Book4 line are extremely thin, inspired by Apple's MacBooks. The version provided by Samsung It is only 1,6 centimeters thick, which helps with transporting the model. Just put it in your backpack and go wherever you want. Is practicality an important point for you? So this is also a model for you to put on your list of possible purchases.
And security is another important feature of this model: the device has a print reader that can be used to access the system and also to confirm identity. Here:
One use that I found quite clever is in password management: to access account data connected to your Gmail, simply touch the on and off button on the GalaxyBook4, without the need to enter your password in public.
ports and connectivity
A Samsung has invested a lot in popularizing USB-C connections and this is great, as it speeds up standardization so that all devices have the same port that is widely used for different tasks. This is well seen in GalaxyBook4 and it can be said that there were no changes compared to the previous generation, as the quantity is the same. Look:
- One 3,5mm headphone jack
- A traditional USB-A input
- Two USB-C connections support charging and video streaming
- One HDMI 2.1 input
- A MicroSD card slot
Personally, I am in favor of a notebook having at least two USB-A ports, as I have the habit of using a mouse that has an adapter with this connection. If I need to connect my smartphone to transfer files, I would have to disconnect the mouse and lose some agility. This would only happen for a while, but adding another USB-A connection wouldn't be a problem at all.
USB-C connections were most used by me for charging the battery, but it's worth remembering that they can also be useful for transmitting video in 4K resolution via cable.
Moving on to networks, the notebook connects to Wi-Fi 6E points and also has a Bluetooth 5.3 antenna that allows connection to various wireless devices. During ten days of testing, I had no connectivity or internet errors, so everything continues to work well, as seen on line GalaxyBook3.
Fabric
I chose to write this part of the review on my balcony to test whether the Vision Booster feature really does its job. In theory, this is the increase in brightness that improves use in a brightly lit environment so that all information can be seen. And, I can say that yes, I managed to deliver the demands without any problems.
A Samsung It also added an anti-reflective layer that helps when using outdoors, but there's no denying that sites in dark mode leave the screen with that little mirror appearance. But you will still be able to see all the information without having to go to a shady place.
What I liked most was the ambient light sensor that changes the screen brightness automatically, something similar to what we see on smartphones and tablets. And you can see how it works in practice: just cover the camera and the brightness changes in front of you.
Going to the technical terms: the Galaxy Book4 Pro It has a 14-inch AMOLED Dynamic 2X touch screen, with a peak brightness of 400 nits and a refresh rate that varies between 48 Hz and 120 Hz, depending on the activity performed.
The screen resolution is WQXGA+ (2880×1800 or 2,8K) and it is also touch sensitive, which helps with navigation, but I believe it will not be used as much by traditional users. Having this is cool, but, at least in my daily life, I didn't feel a huge difference.
As not everything is rosy, I noticed that the screen “registers” finger marks, so you need to have a cloth nearby if you use touches on the screen to control the laptop. O showmetech there is a special article on how to clean screens which is worth checking out.
In resolution tests, there is no denying that the standard HDR10 + it makes a total difference in everyday life: black tones look beautiful and, when we go indoors, it gets even better. Therefore, if you are looking for a notebook for consuming videos, series and films, this model is worth putting on your list.
A Samsung understood the needs of the last generation and introduced screen configurations that really allow you to use it outdoors, without having to strain your eyes to see the information. The anti-reflective layer could really be a little better, but depending on where you work, reflections will be a thing of the past.
The automatic ambient light sensor, unified with the vision booster and the good peak brightness of 400 nits, is the great achievement of this model's screen. Not having to worry about changing the operating system is amazing.
Audio
There are two sound outputs, one on each side, manufactured by AKG. The power is not high: each of them has 5W, but the support for the technology Dolby Atmos brings that little immersion. I would also place the speakers in a location that is not below the keyboard, because, from time to time, voices become muffled and you need to lift the model to hear everything clearly.
The sound emitted by this AI PC Samsung It doesn't fill the entire environment where the notebook is placed and we remember that this isn't even its purpose. But the sound is of high quality and will allow you to hear voices from video calls, media sound and also music without distortions. This could be better, but when analyzing the 5W power, we have a favorable delivery.
O Galaxy Book4 Pro It also features studio-quality dual microphones that reduce noise with support from the processor's NPU, so your video calls and videos are made without having to worry about the sound around you.
Processor
A Samsung chose to put a processor Intel CoreUltra 7 on the model you sent us for testing. This same notebook also hit the market with an Intel Core Ultra 5 variant. As we already explained in our launch article for this processor, it stands out for being aimed at artificial intelligence activities locally, on an NPU, so that the CPU can dedicate itself to other types of tasks.
There is nothing negative to say about this processor: placed in the intermediate category, when we consider the Intel Core Ultra 5, 7 and 9, it managed to meet my demands for writing, video editing and even gaming, without effort or crashes. system.
One thing I really liked is the new task manager, which shows, in real time, the operation and use of the GPU, CPU and NPU. This way, you know which applications are being used most and what can be closed in the name of good performance. See this example:
It could be said that we are just seeing the beginning of the company's AI PC lineup. Samsung It is like Galaxy Book4 Pro, I realized that the best use of NPU was in video calling features. The processor can work well to deliver background blur, automatic framing and noise reduction, without the need to reach the full capacity of the chip aimed solely at artificial intelligence tasks.
Another clear difference is in energy consumption: management is more efficient, spending less energy on tasks and, at the end of the day, delivering longer battery life.
Now, about memory: he has a 512GB SSD and has a slot available for expansion. There is another 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM to run applications and operating system features smoothly.
synthetic tests
PCMark10
This application puts the computer to test in different situations to find out how the processor and video card would perform in practice. O Galaxy Book4 Pro reached 4.876 points. For comparison, the Zenbook 14x OLED Space Edition, with a 7th generation Intel Core i12 processor and 16 GB of RAM, reached 4.593 points.
Cinebench R23
This other application is more focused on testing graphic rendering and here, it was no different: the high number of 4.906 points was achieved in the Multi Core CPU test. In the Single Core test, the model managed to score 1.127 points.
System
All models in the line GalaxyBook4 arrive on the market with the Windows 11 Home installed from the first use and, after some updates already released for download, you have access to artificial intelligence Copilot, Microsoft.
Remember that an internet connection is still required to use the features, even if you just want to change the color of the operating system theme, for example. Despite having a dedicated chip for this, the NPU in this case will be used in other activities so that the CPU and GPU can be directed to other tasks.
Due to having an updated processor and launched in 2024, it is certain that the Galaxy Book4 will receive new versions of Windows and other updates that Microsoft releases over the months.
Apps and integrations
The interface Book UI4, based on Windows 11, is present in this and other premium notebook models that Samsung put on the market in 2024. This “modification” is very reminiscent of the One UI that we see on smartphones and tablets and there is no denying that it is made with this exact purpose: delivering the sensation that you are using the same operating system on your smartphone and computer.
Since the launch of the Galaxy Book line, Samsung Think about how notebooks will integrate with the smartphones that the brand puts on the market. This doesn't mean that you won't be able to use your notebook for more basic activities, but if you have a tablet or smartphone from Samsung, you can access some interesting functions, all wirelessly. Are they
- Multicontrol: Control your smartphone or tablet with the connected touchpad or mouse and use the notebook keyboard. With this, it will also be possible to drag and drop files from the PC to the cell phone or vice versa;
- Expand the screen: It is possible to use the Galaxy Tab as a second screen, without the need for cables, to have a larger working display. And to do this, simply turn on Bluetooth so that the notebook and tablet can talk to each other;
- QuickShare: This functionality is focused on allowing you to exchange files of the most diverse types. The application is also compatible with smartphones from other brands, but its full speed is really with Galaxy devices;
- Answer calls via computer: Since the Galaxy device and Galaxy Book are integrated, you can use the notebook to answer calls;
- Easy integration with Galaxy Buds: As soon as you open the case of any of the Galaxy Buds, they will be detected by the Galaxy Book so that the connection takes place in just one click.
Despite the good range of integration between Galaxy devices, some applications may go unnoticed. O Quick Search is a copy of Windows File Explorer that is not as useful as the Windows application. Microsoft, but it's there for you to use. O samsung gallery is also focused on delivering the user experience seen on smartphones, but let's not deny that the Windows Gallery He also does his job with great mastery.
Another hit is on the way Samsung Studio, the application for creating and editing videos that has a very simplified interface. In the “drag and edit” style, you can make cuts, add subtitles, join multiple photos to make videos and more. I just missed ready-made templates for editing, but let's face it, having a video editor integrated into the operating system for more basic activities is a huge help.
The application that I say was most successful on the line GalaxyBook3 returns in the update for 2024: the Samsung Flow allows the continuity of the image of a Galaxy smartphone or tablet on the larger screen, in addition to everything copied on the second device being available on the Korean company's lightweight notebook.
Camera
I've been commenting for a while that notebook cameras are not focused on having high resolution, especially because there are smartphones that deliver much higher resolution. In my review of the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, which has the same lens as the Galaxy Book4 Pro, said that an interesting point of evolution would be to put a webcam with 2K resolution in the next generation. But that didn't happen.
When analyzing the market, let's keep in mind that the Galaxy Book4 Pro would have the power to go head to head with the MacBook Pro. Apple's notebook has the same 1080p resolution, but the processing work of Apple's M3 chip offers better images .
The large increase in the lens of the GalaxyBook4 is the gain of artificial intelligence in studio mode. On the line GalaxyBook3, it was a separate application that launched automatically as soon as you launched the camera. In the Galaxy Book4 line, Studio Mode was integrated into the Windows camera application. Look:
Use has become much more intuitive and it is possible to see the NPU working in real time to perform Automatic framing, eye contact e background blur in two modes (one that resembles the Portrait/Bokeh seen on a smartphone and the other completely blurred). I really enjoyed the experience of using a notebook with a camera that has artificial intelligence, but everything would be even better if the video quality was above 1080p.
Use during the day is quite assertive, but remember that, at night, even with the support of artificial intelligence, you will need support so that the video image does not become pixelated. There's not much you can do here: if the lens doesn't have a good resolution, the processing, even done via NPU, won't work miracles.
Photos are taken at up to 2,1 MP, and there's the same video experience here. During the day, with the support of lighting, the results are favorable. The problem happens when it gets dark, as there isn't much quality. But considering that you would only use the camera during the day, this isn't such a big problem. Check out this selfie:
That said, who knows, who knows, we might see a 2K resolution lens on the Galaxy Book5 generation. But then, we will have to wait 12 months to see if this will actually happen. I also missed facial recognition on the camera.
Battery
Does a processor that uses artificial intelligence to reduce energy consumption make a difference? The answer is yes, but it depends. In my daily life, I use a Lenovo Ideapad 3, which achieves a screen time of 02h30 when connected to its battery. The Galaxy Book4 Pro managed more than double that, reaching a maximum time of 05:10 before going into power saving mode.
In addition to the Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, which Intel promised (and delivered) to be more economical, the recommended Windows settings made a small difference: my first cycle of use reached 04:53 am, moving to 05:10 am after following the recommendations. The time for the battery to reach 100% was two hours, using the 65W power supply sent in the box.
The battery may have a good duration for some people, but international tests showed that it can last up to 10 hours of use. And I got away from that by having a very favorable usage cycle: using Chrome, Spotify and messaging apps like WhatsApp, Slack and Telegram. A use of six hours unplugged would be ideal and, above that, nothing to complain about the battery of the Galaxy Book4 Pro. Who knows in the next generation.
In games, the model worked for 03h30 with Fortnite running at maximum configuration. It's a duration that's also not ideal if you want to play, work and watch a movie or series on the same notebook, but, as the charger delivers 50% of the percentage in 01 hour, all is not lost.
Price and availability
Available for sale since April 2024, the Galaxy Book4 Pro is sold in color Graphite with two processor options. The model we tested can be found by BRL 8.999,10 at Magazine Luiza.
Conclusion
There is no denying that the Galaxy Book4 Pro is in its best version. The big difference is precisely in its processor, which is part of the family intel core ultra and it's a huge game changer. The model, designated as a “middle brother”, comes as an interesting option for those who value mobility and average performance in a single product.
It is not suitable for those who just want to play and need high performance, not only due to the lack of an integrated graphics card, but also because of the processor which, in one way or another, is still intermediate and was not developed for this. O Intel CoreUltra 7 doesn't fall short in games like Fortnite, but it's worth remembering that it's not just focused on games.
Here, there is a notebook that weighs less than 1,5 kg and has a processor that is enough to deliver performance even for those with heavier activities. The battery also deserves attention: the possibility of using the model for more than four hours is quite a benefit, especially at times when you won't always have a socket nearby.
At the moment, its biggest negative point may be its price: to access it, you have to pay R $ 8.999,10. It is an interesting model to follow in the coming months of 2024, especially during special promotions such as Mother's Day, Father's Day or Black Friday. The price of R$8.000 is interesting when compared to the Macbook Air M3 and, below that, it is worth it.
