Design
A few years ago I had a headset JBL T450, a simple model that shouldn't even be used as a headset, but which met the needs of the time very well. At the JBL Quantum 610However, the story has changed a lot. From the moment I opened the box to the details, you can see that we are talking about a more advanced device with a different focus.
In the piece that arrived to me, we have a black headset with some orange details. Not only that, but in the regulator of its stems, the company chose to place a type of cable connecting the headphone arch with the part where the sounds come out and we have the same buttons. It is visually very beautiful and because it is made of a very resistant material, it is safe to rotate in any direction, as well as open and close the phone as we wish.
Moving on to the foams, they follow the same design idea. On the outside, the foams, made of synthetic leather, and internally the letters R (right side) and L (left side) painted orange. On the right side there is only an on and off button on the bottom of the phone. On the left side we have a lot of things. From top to bottom there is a volume system between chat and games, headset volume, mute button, standard 3,5mm headphone jack and USB-C input for charging the headset.
You may wonder why so many inputs and functions, but that's the charm of this headset. He proposes to be wireless, but at no point does it stop offering all other options to the consumer. In the box, we have a USB dongle so that the headset communicates wirelessly with it. As this function does not use Bluetooth, but rather a 2.4 Ghz wireless signal, the range is incredibly high and I will go into more detail on this later.
In addition to the dongle for wireless operation, the box provides us with the complete kit, with a high quality 3,5mm audio cable with volume control and mute button on its body. This way, you can use this heaset on any platform or device, in some only wired, in others both ways, but with all the options at your disposal.
Still about the kit included in the box, the USB-C cable to charge it is also included and like all the others in the box, it follows the same quality standard and black design with orange details. The headset comes in a small bag that, despite being beautiful, does not follow the same quality standard as the rest. It's not a fancy case or anything like that, it's just a place for you to put the headset if you don't want to leave it collecting dust.
Finally, something very important is that this headset, because it is a gamer, has a light. That's right, to increase your gaming performance, you can turn on its lights and become a pro player. By default, this is already activated, but if you want to turn it off, just hold down the mute button on the body of the phone for 5 seconds. With this, the JBL logo will flash in different colors, a really cool effect.
Sound and microphone performance
As a gaming headset, these two points need to be at least acceptable. As for the JBL Quantum 610, I rate it as a good headset in both aspects. When playing a more immersive game like Tetris Effect, it guaranteed me the desired experience, just like in a horror game like Resident Evil 4, I also got good results.
In online games, the sound was also quite competent and I could clearly hear the footsteps of nearby enemies in all directions, thanks to the 3D audio, a function that the JBL Quantum 610 performed with excellence. In more technical terms, it can be said that the phone delivers a combination of excellent quality in terms of mids, treble and bass.
I also put the headphones to the test with music to see how it performed and once again it surprised me. Although this is not your main focus, enjoying your playlists while working on your PC or even while playing a game where you need to stay farming it becomes a super pleasant experience full of sonic details.
A very interesting detail is that the two cushions that fit in our ears really seal out the sound. Even with the maximum volume of the songs I tested, while I wasn't putting the headset on my head, it was possible to hear everything. So I tested putting the phone on someone else and to my surprise I didn't hear anything anymore, as the cushions sealed everything. Excellent.
Regarding the microphone, I don't have many highlights for it. It's enough for you to chat quietly with your friends while playing or participating in a video call, but it doesn't compare to the quality of a dedicated mic for audio recordings. However, when on the PC, it is possible to customize some additional functions using the dedicated app.
Usability and app on PC
The attractive thing about this model is being able to use it wirelessly, but something that caught me by surprise is that it doesn't use Bluetooth, but yes WiFi. The JBL Quantum 610 will not connect to your WiFi, but it comes with a signal receiver in USB format. When connecting it to your PC, PS4 or PS5, all you need to do is turn on the headset and wait for it to make the connection noise. If it doesn't connect automatically, simply press and hold the USB dongle for 5 seconds until it starts blinking.
If you decide to use it on your PC, there is specific software for that platform. There, you can customize the Equalization of the handset manually or pre-defined. In the options Lighting, I had a surprise, after all, in it we can not only choose pre-defined patterns, but also customize the colors the way we want, in addition to the way the lights will look, whether blinking, static or simulating breathing.
Other functions of the app involve the spatial audio, with three different sound options, one of them called JBL QuantumSURROUND and super immersive. In the options Microphone, in addition to choosing the volume and checking its level, it is possible to control the feedback, that is, we have an ambient mode here.
Finally, the last option is to software update. I tried several times, but I couldn't update my JBL Quantum 610 by him. It downloads the update, restarts the phone, but always stops at a step where it asks to connect a USB cable to the phone and the PC. The issue is that, in the kit, the only cable included is USB-C for charging the phone and when using it to try to complete the update, I was unsuccessful.
Despite this small setback, the app continues to work perfectly and I can configure everything fine. As for consoles, we have some significant changes in usage that can make little or a lot of difference, depending on your expectations.
In the case of the PS4 and PS5, as I said previously, just plug the dongle into one of your USB ports and turn on your headset. With this, it will now be working wirelessly and without problems. The difference in relation to use on a PC is that there is no software to configure it in its many aspects. However, how exactly does this impact the experience?
In terms of sound, I believe it would be cool to have a physical button on the headset to activate Spatial Audio, but I admit that even without that, the sound quality is excellent. The most annoying point about not having software is not being able to check the battery level of the JBL Quantum 610. Yes, there is an LED indicator on its body, but it only lights up when the battery is already asking for a boost and could end up catching you by surprise.
If this happens to you, the kit comes with a detachable cable designed to use the headset on all other platforms, but also on PC and PlayStations. With this, you can simply connect this cable to your controller and use it wired too, if you wish, a decision that I was very pleased with.
Battery
The headset JBL Quantum 610 Comes with a respectable battery. On the product box, we have information that this battery can last up to 40 hours with the lights off. As a result, I was wondering how much autonomy I would lose with them activated.
To my surprise, the loss of autonomy with RGB activated is around 20% of the total of 40 hours, that is, the total drops to something around 30 hours. Honestly, I still consider it an excellent performance to guarantee an experience that matches 100% with your gaming setup.
Regarding charging, it takes 3 hours to reach a full charge and can be done directly from your console or PC. If you are surprised by the low battery notification and cannot charge at the moment, remember that you can always choose to connect the wire to the headset.
In short, what I can say about this point is that its autonomy is great and it never abandoned me. If I could change something here it would be to add a battery indicator LED, similar to what we already see on the Galaxy Buds 2, for example.
Completion and availability
The JBL Quantum 610 headset is an excellent option for those who spend many hours playing online, or even working in front of the PC. Its compatibility is one of the most versatile I've ever had the pleasure of using and its design is very beautiful and resolved.
The set included in the device's box is another point that deserves to be highlighted in this model, bringing us not only accessories for wireless operation, but also other accessories that allow the peripheral to function in the most varied ways and on all possible platforms.
The sound quality also doesn't disappoint and manages to guarantee a very immersive experience in games, its main proposal, but it also does very well for listening to music.
Its weakest point ends up being its price. The work as a whole is justified as a product of excellent quality, but we have other products with similar functions and lower prices. It is currently being offered by R$831 on Amazon, more expensive than the Sony Pulse 3D and close to JBL Quantum 810, the manufacturer's most premium model in this segment.
