The new smart evo C3 OLED TVs e G3 from LG for 2023 are now on sale in Brazil. The models promise the best screen technology, Dolby audio and video standards, as well as lots of connectivity and a design worthy of a work of art in the room. See in this comparative review which model, screen size and of course, price, suits you best:
Lineup and competition
As evo OLEDs from LG are all category models premium. They represent the top of LG's TV lines and are superior to nanocells, also from the company. But, there are subdivisions: it can be said that the LG OLED evo B3 is premium input, the LG OLED evo C3 is premium intermediate, and the LG OLED evo G3 Gallery Edition e LG OLED evo Z3 (not yet released) are the top of the line, with 4K and 8K resolutions respectively.
In terms of competition, this year Samsung finally presented the Samsung OLED S90C (see review) to compete with LG. In terms of prices and advantages, it must be compared with the LG OLED evo C3 (best cost-benefit models).
Design
LG's 3 OLED TV models have no edges and are made with metal sides and base, looking beautiful in any environment. A B3 It comes with a base with cuts on the sides and has a panel with first generation OLED technology:
Already C3 It has an OLED evo panel (current generation) and a metal base, but the style still varies depending on the screen size. Larger models have a base similar to the B3, with straight corners:
And smaller models of C3, 42″ and 48″, are manufactured with two feet:
Already G3 lives up to its name gallery edition when presented as a canvas without a base, which you must position on the wall. It also has more uniform side lines or edges, so it looks like a painting when you look at it, and it uses a stand. no-gap, designed to leave no gaps.
All LG OLED models have minimum thicknesses, with B3 e C3 smaller than the thickness of a current smartphone, which always impresses those who don't know an LG OLED.
All entries from LG OLED evo C3 are located on the right side, at the back of the screen. This makes setup easier and helps you organize cables better.
Already in LG OLED-B3, some of them are also on the base, behind the screen.
E na LG OLED evo G3 Gallery Edition also, with HDMI inputs in both locations:
Rack installation
Both B3 as for C3 can be installed in a cabinet or rack. When you remove the TV from the box, you will find the screen, base and screws, with instructions on how to assemble it. We suggest that you enlist the help of another person during the installation, after all, this thin OLED panel is also delicate.
wall installation
If you don't want to use the base, LG installs the C3 or G3 on the wall for free for you. Simply contact online support 3 to schedule a visit. The G3 even comes with the no-gap support in the kit, to stick it to the wall, apparently without a gap.
An important detail is that the G3 There is no support included in the kit. For those who want to install it outside the wall, it is still necessary to purchase a pedestal called LG Gallery Stand, available on the LG website for R$1.900,00.
And in C3 It has a special support, also sold separately, that you can buy to adapt the brand's new soundbar to its base. The soundbar model is the LG SC9S, which costs R$5.114,07 currently.
Screens and sizes
All LG OLED models have 4K resolution. They start in 42 to 87 inches of screen size. In fact, a good tip that we will give in the future is to compare the screen size with the price of the TV, when purchasing, to choose the TV that is most compatible with your living room or bedroom (wait for the table at the end of this review - comparative).
With pure blacks, even more intense brightness and vivid colors, the B3, C3 and G3 They are among the best screens with OLED technology (more precisely WOLED) available in Brazil. The quality of the display is slightly higher than that of its OLED competitor. Samsung (S90C).
But what you will notice here is a ladder at “maximum brightness”, starting at B3 (with standard brightness on OLED screens), increasing in C3 (which has Brightness Booster 30%) and reaching the maximum at G3 (which has Brightness Booster Max 70%).
LG, in fact, has 10 years of experience in manufacturing OLED screens, a factor that can be seen in the quality of the displays and the availability of special resources to take care of them, avoiding any chance of burn-in and achieve surprising levels of brightness, contrast and color.
When setting up the TVs for the first time, you can even customize the image the way you like most, choosing between photos that appear on the screen. After selecting some of them, the TV will show you the result, so you know if it is what you expected. Very practical and intuitive.
Processor
Nowadays, it's not just on PCs or smartphones that you'll find a processor. Smart TVs need it too. A B3 comes with the processor AI Alpha7 Gen6 4K, capable of quickly running the interface, upscaling content to 4K and handling the audio and video standards supported by it.
Already C3 e G3 raise this level a little with AI Alpha9 Gen6 4K, meaning that more trained eyes will notice in them a Great upscaling of content for improved 4K, in addition to more efficient dynamic tom mapping and the use of artificial intelligence to highlight objects in the scene.
Video Standards
In terms of video standards, they are all very similar. The difference you will notice in each display is the maximum brightness it will be able to deliver in each pattern.
Dolby Vision + HDR10
There is support for HDR10 e Dolby Vision, which improve the brightness and colors of films and series. Understand more about the Dolby Vision in this post.
Here, a tip: Whenever you start watching a film, series or documentary, note that the TV will temporarily show, at the top right of the screen, whether the content supports Dolby (Vision and Atmos) and HDR standards.
FILMMAKER mode
The TVs have FILMMAKER mode automatic. This means that, when enabled in settings, the TV detects that a film is being watched and adapts the image to the standards expected by Hollywood directors.
The good thing about this is that the MOVIE MAKER It is not recommended for other uses, such as watching sports, watching the newspaper or playing games, as it will darken the screen and reduce the frame rate, among other changes (which are only beneficial for films and series). So it is important to have this automatic exchange activated.
Audio Standards
As for audio, there are differences. A B3 is the simplest in terms of audio, with just 2.0 channels e 20w of power. Already C3 e G3 have both 2.2 channels e 40w of power. These differences matter, but they become irrelevant if you use external speakers, such as home theater ou soundbar.
Dolby Atmos
As they do not have separate speakers, it is important that they have support for Dolby Atmos, a sound pattern that gives the impression of three-dimensionality, as if the speakers were separated throughout the room. Understand more about the Dolby Atmos in this post.
Na B3: Dolby Atmos can simulate the existence of 5.1.2 virtual channels (going beyond 2.2). At C3 e G3 this total rises to 9.1.2 virtual channels.
AI SoundPro
And artificial intelligence for audio is present here, under the name of AI SoundPro. This technology can calibrate the TV by sending sound waves throughout the room and then uses this information combined with the type of content viewed to define the sound quality.
Here's another tip: when you start watching a film or series, remember to check if the symbol Dolby Atmos appeared in the upper right corner of the screen to confirm operation.
Connectivity and resources Gamers
Appetizers
For those who like to play, great news. These TVs have inputs HDMI 2.1 (one of them with EARC to connect the soundbar), with 120Hz refresh rate, 0,1 millisecond screen response time, as well as support for standards Nvidia G-Sync e AMD FreeSync. All excellent factors for getting the most out of your Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 or even PCs.
A C3 and G3 both have 4 inputs HDMI 2.1 4K 120hz, without distinctions or losses. Already the B3 has 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs and 2 HDMI 2.1 4K 120hz inputs.
In addition to these, they are also available in all digital optical input (S/PDIF), 3 USB inputs, connection LAN Internet, antenna e infra-red (used to change the sensor location). And the available wireless connections are Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, for devices and external speakers.
Game without console (Cloud Gaming)
And you can play on TVs without needing a console, just activate the app GeForce Now and connecting your Xbox or PlayStation controller to it (as in the image above). The service is more limited than the Xbox CloudGaming present on competitor Samsung's TVs, but it still has great titles, such as Baldur's Gate 3.
Within the settings menu there is also the special optimizer mode for games, designed to configure sound and image specifications according to use on PC or video game consoles.
Smart Magic remote control
The famous control smart magic It remains one of the best available in smart TVs, but with a somewhat dated design. He lost the Google Assistant button and, in its place, came LG Channels.
This is still my favorite TV control, as it has the function pointer (which understands your movements and places a cursor on the screen, to make it easier to use and, especially, to fill in fields that require typing). But it could have fewer buttons and a design more compatible with the industrial style of TVs.
IOT and Personal Assistants
Both B3, as for C3 e G3 are integrated with the platform LG ThinQ, meaning they can control other devices in the connected home, such as air conditioning, lights and smart curtains.
This year, the lines also gain support for the new Google's Matter protocol, which will facilitate integration with even more devices from other brands.
And there is support for the assistant Alexa from Amazon. This means that you will be able to give voice commands to activate TV features, without leaving the couch.
LG ThinQ app
Before even turning on the TV for the first time, we recommend that you install it on your iPhone or smartphone Android the app LG ThinQ. It facilitates the initial installation configuration and will later allow you to control your TVs and other electronics in the house using your cell phone.
For use with TVs, air conditioning and air purifiers, it is great. But for soundbars, LG still requires you to install a second app, the LG Soundbar, also available for Android e iPhone.
WebOS 23 Interface
The new WebOS 23 is the same in B3, C3 e G3. It is practical to navigate, but it is still not the most beautiful (I still prefer the interface of Google TV, HDMI dongle that you can use with this model). It fails to prioritize excessive screen space for unnecessary advertisements and recommendations. Perhaps this is the weakest point of LG's screens, compared to Samsung's, which uses a Tizen interface, and TCL's, which have the spectacular Android TV integrated.
But the good news is that all streaming apps are supported here, including Netflix, Globoplay, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Paramount+, Star+, Disney+ and others.
Settings Menu
The menus, which appear when you click the controller's settings button, have been optimized to show more information in less space. The change is great and helps you quickly understand how audio, video, game optimizer and other functions are configured. The visual presentation of these menus has also improved a lot, making it easier to understand what you want to find.
here another tip: If you want the best image, connectivity and artificial intelligence settings, you will need to go through and learn about this entire menu. It's worth the time spent on this.
Conclusion
If you have come to this conclusion, you will notice that choosing an LG OLED from the 2023 line is more a matter of size vs. price, rather than doubt about the quality of one or another display. They are all excellent smart TVs, with the best screen technology (OLED), even in the most basic B3. C3 e G3 stand out a little more, as they gain more shine, a turbocharged processor and an audio and video input kit with the maximum current resources.
The smart TV LG OLED-B3 ends up being the option for those who want at least 55 inches of screen, but want to save on the purchase, as it is the cheapest for this screen size, costing R$ 6.799,00.
The smart TV LG OLED evo C3 is the most eclectic in terms of sizes and prices, being the only option in smaller (42″ and 48″) or larger (77″ and 83″) sizes. It would be the best representation of cost-benefit and the most recommended for general use and gamers, with prices starting at R$ 5.683,00, interestingly on the 48″ screen, which is cheaper than the 42″.
And the smart TV LG OLED evo G3 Gallery Edition This is a recommendation for those who don't care so much about the cost of the canvas and want more to ensure that it will be the work of art in the room, attached to the wall in an elegant and discreet way.
