Since 2018, the world of superheroes in video games has changed considerably with the release of Marvel's Spider-Man, by Insomniac, for PS4. 5 years later, the third episode of this adventure featuring an experienced Spider-Man and his disciple, Miles Morales, arrives in our hands ready to take the place of one of the best superhero games ever made.

The most beautiful and vivid New York in video games

The first notable thing when starting the game is the fact that New York is much denser than in the previous two chapters. More people, more buildings and more cars help paint the impression that Spider-Man is moving around a more beautiful and lively place, where the need for a superhero to combat the wide variety of crimes that he faces makes sense. occur.

This is achieved, in addition to the clear superior processing power of the PS5, also by the intelligent use of lighting and Ray-Tracing to create environments that closely resemble real life. I've never been to New York, but I dare say that the representation of the city in the game, apart from the obvious fictional places like the Avengers Tower, is very close to the real thing, in an exciting way.

All of this, of course, gets even better thanks to one of the most useful locomotion systems ever put into a video game: Spider-Man's ingenious web, which allows the arachnid heroes to move around the city fluidly and be able to enjoy the landscapes quickly and effectively.

However, it should be noted that a new addition to the heroes' locomotion arsenal, the Web Wings, which stay under both heroes' armpits to allow them to glide around the city, is fun too, but honestly, besides some secondary challenges, I saw no reason for them to be used, although I may not have seen the appeal.

Kraven's Hunt and the Black Suit

The game's story is also excellent, pulling from all corners of the Spider-Man myth, whether from TV, comics or films, to create a very well done amalgam that can present the definitive version of many of the characters present in the narrative.

The specific highlight is Kraven. Originally an interesting character, in the comics he gained much greater fame during the legendary story Kraven's Last Hunt, in which he prepares for a final confrontation with Peter Parker. In the game, much of this story is pulled, but at the same time with enough adaptations and differences to make what we see here something unique and functional.

Some other villains are also present, but the game's focus ends up not being so much on them, but rather on Peter and Miles' relationships with their friends and family, especially gaining more strength when the black uniform is introduced.

Just like in other moments in the arachnid mythology, the uniform ends up making Peter slightly more brutal, and seeing how all his friends deal with it is part of the bulk of the game, with moments that honestly even remind me of a depressive crisis that causes people move away from the person because they don't know what they're doing and talking about due to the mental distortions that occur – yes, somehow the game ends up becoming an analogy to mental illnesses, and that's fantastic! Sometimes we need our heroes to go through difficult situations so that we can understand what is happening to ourselves.

Finally, we still have Venom. Without going into spoilers, he's everything I expected and more, serving as a unique Spider-Man tormentor and showing why he's so popular with the web-head's fans. He is essentially one of the most fun bosses I've ever faced in video games, and I can say that I was extremely pleased with his inclusion and how his story unfolds in the game.

Spider-Man 2 is a treat for fans and newcomers alike

as expected, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 brings a wide range of activities in addition to the main story for those who want to continue adventuring around New York City like our arachnid heroes, and this time some missions are locked with Miles and others with Peter, allowing each hero to have their specific moment to shine beyond the main narrative.

In general, the activities range from interesting references to comics to continuations of stories seen in the first game, which makes the journey rewarding for those who are playing each title in the franchise little by little – and also made me feel the passage of time when the game itself game is referencing its story from five years ago. We are getting old.

Anyway, it's cool to note that the game has changed a lot in relation to secondary content, more by presenting different ways of achieving them and not handing them over on a plate as in previous chapters — now it's necessary to work and fight a little in each district to release everything it has to offer, in addition to the important need for fast travel, which although I didn't think I would use, is simply incredible, thanks to the loading practically automatic now present in it.

Another thing that has changed significantly are random crimes, which can now be easily accessed through the FNSM application, which in the game's story serves as a way for the New York population to communicate with the web-head and tell him what crimes are occurring. Through it, there is always something to do in the game, even if it has been 100% completed, which allows it to become one of those perfect digital worlds to relax in for a few minutes when you are very stressed, for example.

Conclusion

What do you expect from a Spider-Man game? Well, I particularly hope for an experience that puts me in the role of a very popular pop culture hero in a fluid and fun way, and that also allows for fun combat and complex fights.

Well, we've already had this since the first game, from 2018, but it's undeniable that Marvel`s Spider-Man 2 improves everything in an even more absurd way and turns it into the definitive experience in superhero video games. We can only wait to see who will be the next hero who will be able to compete with Miranha, as at the moment, he seems to be far ahead of his teammates and rivals.
