A Philips Boombox BoomBeat was launched in early August as a powerful bet in the portable speaker market. It offers powerful sound, a discreet design, and best of all, a long battery life. Join us for a full review!
Design

A Philips BoomBeat is a portable speaker with a design without many surprises. The front features a large logo of Philips, in addition to housing the woofers and tweeters. On the sides are two passive radiators, one on each side, to provide more immersive bass sounds.
At the bottom, we have two feet, and they need to be firmly placed to work properly. Otherwise, the speaker will roll forward or backward. The back has a sealed space that can be opened and houses the speaker's connections. Finally, we have the top, which houses the interaction buttons and a space on the sides for installing the handle.
The speaker has protection IP66, ensuring that it doesn't die near swimming pools and even on beaches due to the sand, making it a super versatile option for any situation.
Like other speakers we tested, the enclosure material resembles nylon and gives it a cool look. It's all black, with some blue accents on the sides. Compared to other speakers like the partybox da LG, it lacks in bringing more interesting lights and battery indicators.
Here, we can see the battery level in four levels, but they only light up when we turn on the speaker, requiring us to turn it off and on again to check. Furthermore, not having a visual indicator on the speaker itself for the volume level is also a poor decision.
She weighs 5,15kg and I found it a bit uncomfortable to carry with the strap. The accessory is quite useful, but it doesn't take away the feeling of carrying a bag of rice with a strap while you walk. In the box, in addition to the speaker, we have the carrying handle to quick start guide to warranty certificate to auxiliary cable and a USB-C cable for loading.

Audio quality

the sound box Philips Boombox It's a stunner in the best sense of the word. It delivers 200W of power, aided by two 115mm woofers and two tweeters.
This combination makes the Philips speaker delivers a powerful experience in any genre, whether it's bass- and mid-oriented, like electronic music, hip-hop, and the like, or high-frequency genres like metal. Whatever you choose to listen to, the experience will be great here.
While testing the speaker, the volume was always at a maximum of 40%. We always tested it in more enclosed spaces, so turning it up to higher volumes would only deafen everyone.
However, when I placed it in a larger room, I felt like it could handle larger spaces on its own at maximum volume, which is great. The woofers and tweeters also hold their own even at maximum volume without distorting the quality of the music and vocals.
It also allows you to connect another BoomBeat, thus forming a stereo and even more powerful connection.
Connectivity

Because it is a robust speaker, Philips Boombox BoomBeat offers many connectivity possibilities, both wired and wireless. Starting with the wireless option, you can easily connect to the speaker via Bluetooth 5.3, whether through a smartphone, notebook, Smart TV or any other device that wants to connect to it.
It's even possible to connect more than one phone simultaneously, for example, to make it easier to choose playlists at a party. The codec used here is the already traditional SBC. It's a universal codec in the Bluetooth world, so it doesn't offer any innovation or superior sound quality. Since it's a more powerful speaker, I think it could have something more interesting in this regard.

On the back of the case, we have a few ports. The first is a USB-C port, exclusively for charging the case. On the side, a USB-A port, for media playback from flash drives, in addition to serving as a power bank.
An auxiliary port is also present here for quick, wired connection of other devices. Finally, a microphone input is a very interesting feature for this speaker and can make parties even more fun.
In case you have any doubts about this, this box does not support AIs like Alexa e Google Assistant. It's 100% wired or Bluetooth-enabled. I also missed an app to configure it and check battery status.
Use with microphone

This isn't unique to this Philips speaker, but it's worth mentioning how cool the feature's implementation is here. It's very simple to use; all you need is a microphone and a port.
What really caught my attention was when we put on a song and start singing, the music gets quieter to focus on your voice. This makes the "improvised karaoke" experience much more engaging.
You can play a video on your TV, connected to the speaker, and enjoy it without having to adjust every detail. And this can also be a problem. The speaker only has a master volume control, which can be a problem for simpler microphones.
If the idea is just to have fun, it serves its purpose well and is fine. However, if you want to use it professionally, it's worth researching more details about microphones and other settings.
Battery

The battery used here has a total power of 4500mAh and it's lithium-ion, basically a smartphone. Philips promises up to 15 hours of playbacko. For charging, with the box having low battery, it took about 2 hours for a full charge.
In our tests, draining the battery was a daunting task. It really lasts a long time. I tested it with a wide variety of genres, always at around 40% to 50% volume. To make testing easier, I left it playing for about 5 hours straight a day until the battery died. The result was a battery life of around 4 days total, somewhat exceeding expectations. Of course, the volume not being as loud must have impacted the results, but it's still quite impressive.
Also, it's worth remembering that on the USB-A port, you can connect your smartphone or other device that needs a charge and use the box's PowerBank function.
Completion and availability

the sound box Philips Boombox BoomBeat It's an excellent option for those looking for high-quality sound. It's simpler in terms of features, as it doesn't have an app to manage its functions, nor does it have any major features.
The focus here is to deliver top-notch sound quality, and that's what we deliver. Considering the product we're talking about is a speaker, I don't see why I should complain, right? The point is, it all depends on what you're looking for in a speaker.
If you're planning to use it in open or very large venues, it's ideal. However, if you only enjoy listening to your music at more closed-in events, it might be worth looking into more basic models that deliver equally good results, but are more in line with your needs.
The Philips speaker was launched here in Brazil at the beginning of August for the suggested price of R$1.999,00Even though it lacks some features, I consider it a good value for what it offers. However, this price has already dropped and you can find good deals. Check it out:
