Despite not being among the most popular franchises in the Sony, Ratchet & Clank is among the classic series produced for PlayStation. In all, more than 10 games were released by the intergalactic duo, who are always looking to reinvent themselves to conquer new audiences.
Soon, after so long, the charismatic duo arrives for the first time on computers, with Ratchet & Clank: In Another Dimension, opening doors for new players to get to know the franchise and also aligning with the new position of Sony to release their PC exclusives. Find out how the game performs in different settings here!
It is worth remembering that this is an analysis more focused on the technical aspects of how it performs on this new platform, so if you want to know more about the game itself, we have prepared a full analysis of it PS5!
Ratchet & Clank on PC works great!
One of the biggest problems with PC releases is how games are optimized. Unlike traditional consoles, where producers know exactly what specifications the public will have when starting the game, it differs on PCs, since there are infinite combinations of parts and each one can perform differently.
Therefore, it is common for launches to come with several problems in this regard. Not even her own Sony, when it launched The Last of Us: Part 1 for PC escaped these controversies, since the game's optimization was horrible and several reports showed that not even opening the game was possible.
Fortunately, it looks like they've learned their lesson and Ratchet & Clank on PC, we get a really neat port. It maintains their level of quality in the past, when the games of the Spider-Man went out to Steam. Again, the work done by Nixxes, the studio also responsible for adaptations of the webhead, is worthy of all possible praise.
Regardless of the computer configurations I tested, the game presented stable results in all, running even above 30FPS on “Very High” in a combination considered weaker compared to today's parts: a Xeon processor accompanied by an RX 580 from OMG. However, we will talk about this in more detail below.
game performance
RX 580 + Xeon 2670 v3
One of the aspects that shines through this adaptation is the meticulous care taken with settings and performance. Graphic customization options, ranging from “Very Low” to “Very High”, show special attention to the needs and preferences of each player. Even at more modest settings, the game delivers remarkable graphics performance.
Unfortunately, it was only at these two lower resolutions that I was able to hit a steady 60FPS average and enjoy the fluid gameplay to the best of my ability. So, if you're looking for stability and also want to have good graphics, maybe running the game on more modest settings isn't ideal – however, for those with a weak computer, it's wonderful to know that you can still enjoy the big releases!
From medium settings, the game stuck to 54FPS. For me, at high it dropped to 44FPS and at the highest possible, we got 40FPS. That is, it is still possible to have an experience similar to playing in PlayStation 5 without major problems, you can further optimize the game by messing with the settings and reducing some resources and achieving better results.
The game also gets a lot out of the computer, as during the tests carried out, 14GB of RAM memory was used, while 50% of the CPU and 100% of the GPU were used to deliver impressive graphics and remain firm, without compromising the experience.
RTX 2060 + Intel Core i5 10400F
Then our second test was performed with a RTX 2060 and from that generation of video cards Nvidia, we now have access to DLSS technology. For Ratchet & Clank: In Another Dimension, this function was very well applied. In fact, many games on the market currently rely on the advantages of applying this function to make performance stable on computers, making access difficult for players who do not have the latest cards.
As we could see in the technical part of the RX 580, the Nixxes did not use DLSS to be a crutch and disguise the port they did. On the contrary, it helps you reach even more interesting levels when we compare Ratchet & Clank running on the same settings whether it's on or off. For example, I had 20-30 FPS gains in medium graphics modes, depending on location and how much content was on screen, keeping above 60!
At the highest settings, however, the new computer port failed to reach this average even with DLSS enabled. It was around 50 frames per second, dropping a little when the action started to take over the screen, but without disturbing what I was doing at all.
the performance of Ratchet & Clank when we link ray tracing with these computer parts it delivers a similar quality to playing the game. PlayStation 5 in quality mode, as the game stays close to 30 FPS, without dropping below that value. For those who value good details, maybe this is the ideal way to enjoy this game and still enjoy the colorful scenarios to take wonderful pictures with the fantastic Photo Mode!
RTX 4070 TI + Ryzen 5 5600x
Finally, in the most powerful settings that I could try the game, there is not much to be analyzed about its general quality. Regardless of the settings chosen, performance was always stable and, according to the tools I used to measure the stability of the game, the frames per second stayed above 100, whether it was action scenes or just looking at the scenery.
Of course, when activating the most resource-hungry technology in any game, Ray Tracing, my computer couldn't run Ratchet & Clank: In Another Dimension with similar performance. It was still at a steady 60FPS, with some occasional drops to 55 or 50, especially when something exploded across the scenery and those thousands of particles appeared on screen.
However, I must give sincere praise to the technology of frame generation present in most modern video cards. I can't understand how it, combined with DLSS, managed to practically double the game's performance with graphics at maximum quality and ray tracing turned on, always going to values above 100 frames per second.
Conclusion
Ratchet & Clank: In Another Dimension is one of the best games released for PlayStation 5 and delivers spectacular performance on computers. If you have some older pieces of hardware, you can still enjoy a lot of this journey formed by one of the most charismatic video game duos without major headaches.
The work done by Sony, in partnership with Nixxes, to make this port was flawless. Almost like an apology for the troubled launch of The Last of Us for computers that returns the Japanese company to the level of always delivering the same quality for its games.
So, if you've never had the opportunity to get to know this incredible universe that started in the PlayStation 2 in 2002 and during these more than 20 years, it never left the PS2, now is the perfect time. In addition to having an already good game, the features and ability to customize the graphics make the game great for a wide range of users!
