At the end of March, the Samsung highlighted the new launches of the company's M line, sold exclusively on online channels, including the Galaxy M55. Featuring very interesting features that elevate its category, the M55 arrives as one of the best intermediate devices in the Samsung — and, consequently, with a higher value compared to past models.

With your 256GB single storage, combined with 8GB memory, and cameras that can record videos up to 4K, both in selfie and behind the scenes, the showmetech received the new Samsung cell phone in dark blue for testing and brings you a review of the Galaxy M55 complete with its functions, performance and structure. Well, after all, the Is Galaxy M55 good? Does it meet your needs?

Design

Starting with this analysis, the Galaxy M55 it's a device quite light. Weighing 180g, is a considerably lower value than the M family — lower than its “predecessor” M54, with 200g, and its promotional brother M15, which already weighs 210g — and even the company’s other cell phones — such as the A55, which weighs 213g.

Your lightness, combined with the fineness of the cell phone, allows users with small hands to be able to enjoy the entire screen do M55 just using one hand and can easily be stabilized in the palm, even though it is smooth. However, with your plastic composition on the sides and cover, it is an easy target for falls to the floor due to its apparent fragility. Nothing that a cell phone case doesn't guarantee this protection. Due to the type of material used, many finger marks are also common on both the screen and the cover of the device. Galaxy M55, even with its colors covering some fingerprints, not all.

On its sides, as usual, the left side features the dual-chip cradle for two Dual-SIM chips or MicroSD chip and memory card; and the right side presents the 2 infamous screen lock/power buttons of the telephone and increase and decrease volume, with fingerprint recognition. The buttons on the right side are larger, simplifying their operations.

At the bottom, the sound output Dolby Atmos — a new addition to the line — a port for charging your cell phone in USB-C 2.0 format and the anti-noise microphone complete the composition. Finally, at the top, another microphone.

Here, we already see the absence of port P2 for headphones, something that has become a recurrence in more advanced devices.

Finally, the Galaxy M55 It's very beautiful, visually. Your color gradient is not so clear, at least in color dark blue color which we received for testing, but even so it doesn't diminish its beauty. Your more detail dusky It adds an extra charm, but nothing too sophisticated. As mentioned in the introduction, the Galaxy M55 is also available at light green color, a color that is not so new from Samsung, being identical, even, with the tone of the A24.

Fabric

Its screen maintained the same display quality FHD + (1080×2400) and technology Super AMOLED with 6,7 inches. The settings are identical to the M54, with the same 120Hz refresh rate. What really differentiates the M55 from the M54 is its peak brightness, getting at 1000 nits, like the A54 and the A55, double the potential.

O Galaxy M55 presents your teardrop-shaped front camera joining the screen, which I particularly disapprove of for reasons of aesthetics and functionality, even failing to take advantage of a cleaner space. The screen also has thin edges in a legal viewing size. A big disadvantage is the lack of anti-reflective finish on the screen, something that, given its configurations and proposal, would fit well with a more matte screen, as in the new updates of the A and S line. Complementing the previous subtopic, it leaves many annoying marks on the screen when turned off and is a bit disruptive during use , even though the Auto Brightness technology compensates for part of the problem.

I would like to highlight again the device's refresh rate and its very vivid and sharp color quality, with a depth of 16 million colors, something that surprised me. Its features are also very good, with maintenance of Eye Care Display as a function to reduce the amount of bluer tones harmful to vision, and the novelty of vision booster, technology present in other Samsung lines and added to the M55, which automatically increases your lighting in brighter environments.

A biometric reading it continues to be on the device's screen, unlike other versions present on the buttons on the right side.

Cameras

As cameras do Galaxy M55 consist of the same scheme of three rear cameras and a front. The ultra wide camera and macro remained the same as the M54 and A55 – 8 SM e 2 SM, respectively -, however, what highlights the M55 It's your selfie camera and your main one.

The photos taken by Galaxy M55 They gave me a feeling of cinema in terms of coloring, despite these terms being very referential. If you like photos with more color presence, the M55 may disappoint you. Now, if you're like me and prefer a more real photo, without too many exaggerations, the performance of 50 MP main camera it will serve as a full plate for your videos and photos.

Something that surprised me positively about the cameras M55 is variety of filters and modes that can be enabled.

Na back camera, you can choose the filters “Warm” (redder tones), “Cold” (bluish tones), “Ice cold” (whiter tones), “Bloom” (darker tones), “Faded” (lighter tones) , “Soft” (more yellowish tones), “Grayscale” (strong presence of gray) and “Classic” (famous black and white).

However, in general, I felt that the fluidity when moving the cell phone to look for a good angle was a little cumbersome than usual. Another problem was in calibrating the environment, which took a while to enable focus and in the processing of the camera itself in relation to the colors being captured. Therefore, I found it easier to take photos of environments and landscapes and a certain discomfort with spontaneous recording, for example, of a group of people at a table. Its zoom is also not the best, it is quite ok, reaching up to 4,5 meters at 10x.

The selfie, then… is the great protagonist of this field. Your front camera also has 50MP, far superior to the M54 and A55, yielding highly professional photos. Both the front and rear can remember 4K photos and videos, ideal for content creators, photographers and one-click lovers. However, unlike the difficulty I had with the fluidity of the rear camera, the front camera was very clean and showed better focus calibration results.

Galaxy m55 blur background filter. (photo: reproduction/enzo sapio monello/showmetech)

Na Selfie, we have the options “Blur” (background is blurred), “Studio” (automatically realigns the light input and highlights colors more), “High monochrome” (black and white, with a strong presence of white in the background), “Monochrome low” (the antonym of the previous one), “Color Point” (focuses on the color chosen by the user on the screen and the rest remains monochromatic) and “Background” (the background has a transparent color as if it were on a background).

Still in the option of selfies, Samsung brings you smoothness, tone, eyes, and jawline editing before taking your portrait. Even though they are more basic filters, they do not require the use of image editing, if it is for more entertainment purposes, without as much professionalism. But it's a really cool and welcome feature.

Between a quality comparison between the rear and front cameras, both with 50MP, the selfie has a more surprising result. However, it ends up being an even match, yielding great photos too, especially landscape photos.

It is worth highlighting the “Food","Slow motion"and "Timelapse” as interesting features for content creation that work great – the insertion of “Super Slow Mo” may be pleasant at first, but it doesn’t make a big difference from “Slow motion" in itself. The option "Photo in Motion” mirrors what Apple already does in its photos — pressing the image and reproducing a few seconds of all the previous and post movement — and ends up working very well, with some difficulties when taking the photo, with a cool down of seconds, and without intuitiveness to export these moving images in .GIF or .MP4 format.

Along with the power of the selfie camera, the “Nocturnal” It's impeccable. With technology nightography, dark environments gain more life and more meaning, yielding great photos, both on the front and back cameras. To close the podium, the resource “Double Recording” allows you to record and take photos like the app beer, being a very cool advance to test and work on. The quality of the video is good, with an immense field of possibilities for your content production and photography.

The buttons “Double Recording”, "Slow motion" e “Super Slow-Mo” resulted in noticeable heating of the device, which is worth being careful with excesses in terms of battery consumption. At least the engine's cooling system M55 It's quick on the trigger and already relieves the device for more.

As negative points, I highlight the “Macro”, which in addition to completely blurring all the photos, does not actually fulfill what it promises, on top of that with its image stabilization taking a considerable amount of time and its focus being easily misconfigured with a simple movement. .

Performance

O Galaxy M55 comes equipped with processor Snapdragon 7 Gen1 da Qualcomm, a seal that is of high standard and provides excellent fluidity when carrying out heavier tasks. In the test, I did not feel any weight in the gameplay of games, such as Pokémon GO, minions rush, Among Us e Genshin impact, managing to run the graphics very dynamically and with very vibrant colors. However, after many hours of use, the cell phone was already hot and the battery started to decline faster, although gaming performance didn't affect anything, with no crashes.

Of course the memory de 8GB also contributed to the great performance of the system. In fact, many games ended up remaining in the background, and not interfering with the quality of graphics reproduction and gameplay. The same thing goes for social networks, without so much burden when loading the feed with new posts and videos.

TikTok, for example, usually slows down, at least on my device and my friends', in addition to the phone's internal heating. The same goes for Google Drive, with the dispatch and download of large files. At the M55, the story was different and with flying colors, having passed all the tests of speed and optimization, both on social media and general applications.

If you weigh the scales, your mighty 256GB storage, the device places itself in an extremely favorable position as a corporate cell phone, being able to store large files, applications, etc. It may not be the function built into the system for nothing “Multicontrol”, in which the user can integrate the M55 to other lines of the Galaxy Tab and Book, forming several working and connected screens. There is also the option to “Link to Windows”, in a more comprehensive way with other devices outside of Samsung.

O Galaxy M55 has connectivity 5G, Wi-Fi 6 e Bluetooth 5.3 for a more stable pairing. Your version Android 14 guarantees updating of 4 generations of operating system, reaching up to Android 18, and up to 5 years of operating system security updates, placing the M55 service life expectancy to 2029-2030, a huge margin.

Battery

In this regard, Samsung chose to reduce the capacity of its battery to M55. While its predecessors like the M54 and M34 had 6000 mAh, the Galaxy M55 regresses to 5000 mAh. Is it significant? Yes, but not much changes on paper. So much so that its capacity yields, even so, 2 days without needing to charge, using the device more sparingly.

If the level of demand is constant, as mentioned in the topic above regarding games and massive use of social networks, the battery of the Galaxy M55 It uses a lot more, but lasts until the end of the day, with an average of 18% to 20% battery remaining.

In the box, there is the 25W standard charger, It takes 1h30 to fully recharge. Unfortunately, just as they did on the M54, even as an attempt to compensate for the battery reduction, there is the option of a 45W charger com Super fast charging, which is sold separately. This charger recharges the entire cell phone battery, from 0% to 100%, in less than 1 hour.

Audio

For sound, technology Dolby Atmos is present in the new M family line. The new addition allows for a surround sound more present, that is, a more immersive sound. As soon as the cell phone starts, it is automatically activated and can be disabled in the phone's home menu. M55. There is also the version Dolby Atmos focused on games, improving the vibrations and sound effects of applications, in the same menu.

O stereo sound is very present in the environment you are in. It doesn't overcome street noise, traffic and more spaced out places, but it still generates a presence. In better acoustically treated environments, obviously, the story is different. Due to its power, I do not recommend a volume above 60%, as the sound will have a bursty appearance. In headphones, the quality is much higher, with uncomplicated bass and treble, with more tendency towards treble. Here we also notice a volume greater than expected at each level, therefore its emitted sound emits more energy.

It is worth saying that this topic is very individual and also depends on the quality of your headphones/phones, so it remains a more dimensional record. It will be influenced by the sound requirements of each user.

One mechanism that surprised me was the technology VoiceFocus. As the name itself explains, the microphones of the M55 they eliminate ambient noise and focus on the voice captured by them. As an additional resource and without the presence of more powerful tools, the noises are not reduced to zero, they are more like “reduced”. The result looks great and is a great help for content creators and professionals who live and/or work in busier environments.

Conclusion

O Galaxy M55 It's a great device in the mid-range line. Compared to the M54, the M55 elevates the processing, fluidity and camera of the M family, while taking steps backwards in terms of battery, color presence and image stabilization and focus. With its 256GB of storage and 8GB of memory, the Galaxy M55 performs tasks optimally, ideal for jobs that require a lot of connectivity: from work with daily meetings, the need to access several applications at the same time, video and photo editing, and video and screen recordings.

The biggest highlights are the super fluid processing and the front camera equaling the quality of the main rear camera. The photographic filters that come with the device are also good and can develop creativity, despite having an average function. O nightography for photos in dark environments it is a real exception, brightening the entire mechanism. Additional resources are very welcome, such as Double Recording, Photo in Motion and the new Screen Recording.

Repeated warning points from other lines and present in the Galaxy M55 It is the simplest smartphone materials and fast heating. Even though the cell phone is lighter, continuing with this benefit, there is the greatest concern about its resistance to drops. The same starting point continues with heating: although with a cooling system that acts immediately, the recurrence of an increase in CPU temperature compromises the battery and can affect the useful life and long-term performance of the device. Even more so if a protective cover is placed, which worsens cooling circulation.

Complementing the aesthetic point, the device also leaves evident fingerprint marks, something annoying to always clean, especially on the screen, whose composition left it very mirrored.

O Galaxy M55 It promises to last longer than other devices and is a great classy mid-range cell phone, without premium tendencies, but also unfair when compared to other entry-level cell phones. Its price is valued at R$2.999,00 via the Samsung store, which is at a 10% discount, going to R$2.699,10. In Magazine Luiza, for example, the device can be found by R$2.319,00 via PIX. Given its situation, it is a value in accordance with what it offers.
