O WH-CH710 is the newest addition to our family of affordable headphones. Sony that promises to bring an improvement in the technology of noise cancellation from the previous model. However, will the technology approach the quality seen in its big brothers? You can see this in our full review.
Design
On first contact, the WH-CH710N is very resistant even with its essentially plastic construction, the black color extends throughout its body giving a very sober touch to the product without great visual highlights. The overall design was more simplistic than we had seen in the excellent WH-CH700N launched last year, resembling the minimalism presented in the models Extra bass of 2019.
For being Bluetooth, WH-CH710N It has buttons for easy access to basic functions like volume up/down, pause/play/forward tracks, and a dedicated noise/ambient canceling button. These buttons are almost invisible from a distance and do not have any kind of highlight. They are all located at the bottom of both sides of the earcup, which makes the look more clean and easily accessible by the user.
Even if it is a wireless phone, the Sony maintain the tradition of including the P2 input in their most affordable headphones. It may seem a little dated for 2020, but the company's attitude of giving users possibilities is something very important in this moment of transition from wired to wireless technologies.
Soundproofing pads are competent and do a satisfactory job. They are supported around the ears as in headphones company's most expensive. I didn't feel any discomfort during long periods of use. And since I talked about comfort, it applies to the whole headphone. The top has a good padding made of the same material as the insulating pads, creating a wonderful combination of the lightness of the plastic body and the comfort of the supports.
Sound and noise cancellation
As for sound, the WH-CH710N It has well-distributed frequencies for all types of music, managing to maintain the quality seen in the previous model. However, the sound still lacks the brightness and clarity present in the company's more expensive headphones. To get around this, it is still necessary to open the mid and high frequencies in the equalizer to have a satisfactory sound balance, but the result is still not ideal.
in the songs bad guy of the singer Billie Eilish e Knights of Cydonia from the band Muse, all the sonic details like synths, arpeggiators, orchestras, backing vocals and choirs have a good highlight. However, when comparing with headphones from the Extra Bass line like the WH-XB700 e WH-XB900N launched last year, the drop in quality is notable if one takes into account the current R$799 charged for the model evaluated in this review.
O noise cancellation asset that integrates the WH-CH710N uses a dual sensor with artificial intelligence to adapt to the noise around the user. The result is satisfactory and reduces most external noise, but don't expect high-end headphone technology. More basic noises such as typing on a mechanical keyboard, people talking and the sound of TV in the background are not completely suppressed, but when using the technology in conjunction with playing music at a certain volume these technology flaws are less noticeable.
O WH-CH710N it lacks a little quality at maximum volume, there are some distortions and noise when it is required to show its full potential, but it is not a big problem, since in very few situations I needed to go above 75% volume.
battery and connection
O WH-CH710N — as with most headphones from Sony — is very competent on drums. The headphone can handle up to 35 hours of playback with the noise cancellation switched on. During our two week tests it was used for around 3-4 hours a day and only needed 1 charge in the middle of the last week, an impressive result.
loading via USB-C only makes the experience more satisfying through the presence of fast charging technology, the full charge is completed in just 1h30. And for those who forget to charge their headphones and need it right away, in just 10 minute charge he is able to reproduce 1 hour of music.
The connection is via Bluetooth 4.2, which may seem a bit old-fashioned in 2019. However, the connection proved to be of very high quality, with no glitches or stutters. O WH-CH710N also connects via out P2 which helps if the battery runs out or a device does not support the bluetooth connection of headphones such as the Nintendo Switch.
Conclusion
O WH-CH710N is a slight evolution of its previous model, modestly improving sound balance and noise canceling technology. The headphone will please the public that wants a good product with the latest technologies for daily use without having to break two pigs for that.
O WH-CH710N is available at the official store of Sony in Brazil for R$799,00.
