No ShowmeCAST 147 From this week, Daniel e Dacius talk about what they've been watching over the last few weeks in our latest ShowmeCAST in the current format. The podcast that is coming to an end as you know it brings an episode about the adventures of eight simultaneous protagonists in Octopath Traveler II, one of the great RPG classics of the PlayStation 1 and a case study of doctors and sociopaths in one of the most influential manga in history in Monster. In addition, we also talked about one of Martin Scorsese's classics about infiltrators in the Irish mafia, The Departed.

Octopath Traveler II

Octopath Traveler 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the renowned 2018 game, created by Square Enix e Acquire Corp. In this adventure, players will have the opportunity to command a group of eight exceptional new characters, each with their own distinctive stories and abilities. Together, they share the goal of transforming the world into a more promising place, joining forces to face the challenges that come their way.

At ShowmeCAST 147 we talked about how the game manages to be an evolution of its predecessor in the evolution of the narratives of its protagonists, while maintaining narrative oddities that come from its own characteristic and idea.

the manga Monster is a work written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa, a renowned Japanese mangaka. The story revolves around a talented surgeon named Dr. Kenzo Tenma, who works at a hospital in Germany. The plot unfolds when Tenma is faced with a moral dilemma: he must choose between saving the life of an orphan boy named Johan Liebert or saving the life of the city's mayor. Tenma chooses to save Johan, which has drastic consequences for his life.

In this week's episode, we talked about how Monster is a work that addresses complex themes such as the nature of evil, the quest for redemption and human psychology. The manga is known for its intricate plot, well-developed characters, and intense, dark atmosphere, which keeps readers in suspense throughout the entire story.

The Departed

The film The Departed is a crime thriller directed by Martin Scorsese and released in 2006 and is an adaptation of the Hong Kong film, Hellish Affairs. The plot takes place in Boston and revolves around an intricate network of infiltrators between the police and the Irish mafia.

In the film, the Boston Police Department discovers that a member of the mob, Frank Costello, has an informant in the police force. At the same time, Police Chief Queenan assigns young police officer Billy Costigan to infiltrate Costello's gang. Meanwhile, Costello places one of his own men, Colin Sullivan, as a member of the police investigation team, providing inside information to the mob. As time passes, both Billy and Colin find themselves caught in a dangerous game of betrayal and secrets as they try to uncover each other's identities.

On ShowmeCAST 147 we talked about how The Departed explores themes of identity, loyalty, corruption and the complex relationships between the police and the mafia. The film is praised for its tense narrative, memorable performances by the cast and Scorsese's deft direction, which won him the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director in 2007.

Final Fantasy 8

Finally, we talked about the great classic and success of PlayStation 1 da Square-Enix, Final Fantasy 8. The story of the game takes place in a fictional world called “Gaea”, where the protagonist is a young man named Squall Leonhart, a member of a military organization known as SeeD.

Squall is sent to a specialized mercenary training school called Balamb Garden, and the game's main plot involves a war between two nations, Galbadia and Dollet, and a mysterious threat known as the "Sorceress". The protagonist and his teammates then embark on a journey to protect the world and discover the truth behind the war's secrets and the supernatural forces involved.
