A Person of the Year, known as Person of the Year in the original English, it is an annual edition of the magazine Time which highlights the profile of a person, group, idea, place or machine that in a certain way, for better or worse, most influenced the events that occurred during the year. This tradition began back in 1927, when the magazine's then editors were thinking about what to write about in a week when there was little news. This lack of guidelines gave rise to the idea of electing Charles Lindbergh as “Man of the Year” after his historic transatlantic flight. Since then, a person has been chosen to appear on the cover of the magazine at the end of the year.

Initially, the title was called “Man of the Year”, but was changed in 1999 to avoid sexism, as some women, such as Corazon Aquino in 1986 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, they even won the prize. Following the list of people who appeared on the cover of the magazine in the special year-end edition, we have, since 1927, each of the presidents of the United States who was chosen at least once as Person of the Year, with the exception of Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Gerald Ford. Another highlight is the edition of December 31, 1999, when the magazine named Albert Einstein as "Person of the Century".

In modernity, we have some names, such as the then president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in 2022; the CEO of Tesla, Inc. and founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, in 2021; the current president and vice president of the United States, Joe Biden e Kamala Harris; and the environmental activist Greta ThunbergIn 2019.

Taylor Alison Swift, or simply Taylor Swift, singer and songwriter, born on December 13, 1989 in West Reading, Pennsylvania, was chosen as Person of the Year for 2023.
