In one of the best series of the 2010s (and of all time), Phoebe Waller-Bridge is Fleabag, a woman who tries to survive in lonely London through her acidic and defensive humor, while trying to deal with the greatest tragedy that has happened in her life.

Of course, the series has comedy as one of the key points of the story, but as soon as we detect how self-destructive and depressive Fleabag is, the look at the series changes abruptly. After all, her healthiest relationships are with the audience behind the fourth wall and the priest (Andrew Scott) she inevitably fell in love with.

If it does not serve to identify itself, at least it is a series that yields good reflections, even if it is against it.

To integrate this team, there is Dunham herself starring as Hannah Horvath, the narcissistic and self-centered Marnie (Allison Williams), the detached Jessa Johansson (Jemima Kirke) and the anxious and “too much” Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet). And to top it off, we have Adam Driver as Adam, Hannah's boyfriend – this role was even crucial in leveraging Driver's career.

Mindhunter it's part of the bandwagon of wonderful series that were unfairly canceled, just like that.

In a long collection of films and series about serial killers, one of the first teachings is that in order to capture these criminals, it is necessary to understand the modus operandi of them and understand how their minds work.

Em Mindhunter, in the late 1970s, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) are two FBI agents who expand the frontiers of criminal science and create a sector dedicated solely to the investigation of serial killers with the help of the magnificent psychiatrist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv).

It is important to highlight that the series not only had a great cast in front of the screens, but also had a high-ranking team behind it, including director David Fincher and actress Charlize Theron among the executive producers.

The Handmaid's Tale (2017–present)

Original title: The Handmaid's Tale

83% on Rotten Tomatoes | 8,4 on IMDb

Number of seasons: 5 seasons

Where to see: Star +, balloon play, Prime Video e Paramount +

Maybe now, after seven years, The Tale of the Maid has lost some of the hype that had such a huge impact when it was released. But in any case, this adaptation of Margaret Atwood's best-seller had an impact on the public in every way when it was released.

I usually indicate series that are very good to engage a marathon, but in this case, I remember that when I started watching with that intention, I could barely watch the first one because of so much stomach upset. This dystopia deserves a lot of attention and recognition.

In the plot, the drama series is set in the fictional Gilead, a totalitarian society that dominates the United States. This new city is governed by a fundamentalist regime that sees women as state property.

When observing the drop in the birth rate, this government began to aim at repopulating society. In other words, the few fertile women that still exist are forced to sexually serve the families they are assigned to. June Osborne (Elizabeth Moss) is one of them – who eventually rebels and with great determination seeks to escape that unhealthy environment, going in search of the daughter who was taken from her.

What We Do in the Shadows (2019–present)

Original title: What We Do in the Shadows

98% on Rotten Tomatoes | 8,6 on IMDb

Number of seasons: 5 seasons

Where to see: Star +

It is important to point out that the series of What We Do in the Shadows is a spin-off of the film of the same name and not an adaptation – especially because Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, in addition to being involved in the production, also make a cameo appearance in the series, proving that their characters belong to the same universe as Nandor (Kayvan Novak ), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) and Nandor's human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillen).

That said, this is definitely one of the best spin-offs made for movies. Following the same structure as the feature film and using a documentary style, a team of humans follows the daily lives of four vampires who have lived together for hundreds of years on Staten Island and who now have the bonus of Guillermo, Nandor's most faithful family member.

The series opened up space for more layers and screen time for those characters who, when it comes to a television production, are nothing more than secondary characters with a shallow pretext for being there.

Based on the book of the same name about a true story, this adaptation follows the story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a woman who has her career on track and a fiance who loves her dearly, determined to conquer her dreams. Until the past knocks on your door in the worst possible way.

Piper is sentenced to serve a sentence in the minimum security women's prison in Connecticut for having associated ten years ago with Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), her ex-girlfriend and also a drug dealer. In the midst of comic scenes and very dense dramas, from there, it's just downhill.

Original title: Steven Universe

100% on Rotten Tomatoes | 8,2 on IMDb

Number of seasons: 5 seasons

Where to see: Netflix, Max e Prime Video

This is particularly my favorite cartoon, it is captivating in many layers and brings up very important issues in a light way, managing to trace a double path of interest for children and adults.

In this coming-of-age story, Steven Universe is a boy who lives with Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, magical creatures known as Crystal Gems. He, by the way, is also half Gem because his human father, Greg Universo, had a romance with Rose Quartz, one of the important Crystal Gems. His mission is to learn to use his own powers while living great adventures with his friends, including humans Connie, Sadie and Lars.

This is one of the best series of the 2010s that is exciting from start to finish and has been acclaimed for its design, music and voice acting. Furthermore, the themes covered, the LGBTQIAP+ narrative and elements that encourage people to like their own bodies are important details that differentiate and enhance the story.

Steven Universe is the first cartoon created exclusively by a woman, who was later revealed to be non-binary. With this inclusive highlight, the production was able to stretch the narrative to a series with Steven in his teens and a movie.

How can the story of an unbearable family have so many fans? (Me included). Although aging patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) wouldn't dream of vacating his position as head of his family's controlled international media conglomerate, he's beginning to contemplate what the future might hold. And from then on, I'm not even going to lie, it's going to be a complete Hunger Games between the children, sons-in-law, distant relatives and anyone who wants to open a gap to extract at least some amount of money and power.

Roy's children are the clumsy and clueless Connor (Alan Ruck), the addict Kendall (Jeremy Strong), the smug Shiv (Sarah Snook) and the childish Roman (Kieran Culkin) who only knows how to swear and talk nonsense.

Co-starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, The Americans is a period drama about two KGB spies who have to pose as an American couple from suburban Washington. The main mission is to control the information network between the spies operating in the country, but not everything is that easy.

The touch of suspense and the evolution of the characters make the family drama much more exciting, making this one of the best series of the 2010s. What was supposed to be a focused mission ends up having some mishaps along the way, making making the protagonists more humanized – and this is great for countering the essence of the action, which tends to be repetitive.

The showrunner had already shown a certain fixation on the theme involving the royal family. Before the drama series The Crown, a hit of the 2010s, he wrote an award-winning play (The Audience), which later served as a script for some adaptations, including The Queen (2006)

With this in mind, the premise of The Crown focuses on the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to recent years. So, the series draws on the principles of her reign, that she ascended the throne at a young age, aged 25, after the death of her father, King George VI.

This was the kickoff for the emergence of intrigues, romances and political disputes. All these layers make up one of the most remarkable stories that shaped the XNUMXth century.

When Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) finds herself in the afterlife, she is relieved and surprised to have reached the afterlife. Good Place. But it doesn't take long for Eleanor to realize she's there by mistake. She hides in plain sight from the Good Place's architect, Michael (Ted Danson), and his all-knowing assistant, Janet (D'Arcy Carden).

Her seemingly perfect neighbors, Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto), and her open-hearted soulmate, Chidi (William Jackson Harper), help her realize that it's never too late to change. With the help of her new friends – and a few enemies – Eleanor becomes determined to abandon her old way of life in hopes of discovering a new one in the afterlife.

Michael Schur, the co-creator of Parks and Recreation signs this existential comedy and raises several questions worthy of an existential crisis and, at the same time, of laughter. The paradise system is broken, the universe works randomly and life is just a series of tests in the form of small daily setbacks.

The Good Place it leaves the outbreak a little aside and laughs at it all, especially when welcoming at its door the four new arrivals who will be victims of the most absurd tests that ever existed. We have Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), a woman all wrong who knows she's in heaven by mistake; the charitable and narcissistic Tahani Al-Jamil (Jameela Jamil); charming Florida donkey Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto); and finally, the philosopher Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper), who is anxiety in person.
