Twelve years after the release of Need for Speed: Underground, EA takes the title back to car culture. The announcement was made today with the launch of the first teaser trailer to Need for Speed, the twenty-second game in the racing series.
Despite not officially saying that this is a continuation of two of the franchise's most successful titles, Need for Speed: Underground e Need for Speed: Underground 2, the game's description of a dark open world with immersive storytelling and authentic urban car culture with full customization makes the comparison almost automatic.
The released images, which illustrate this post, show a Nissan 180SX, a new Ford Mustang and a Porsche 911, all greatly modified as expected from the tuning culture, also lead to believe that the desire of fans of the series to return to the classics will finally be fulfilled.
Advertised by name only Need for Speed, the title will be produced by Ghost Games, will be a complete reboot in franchise history. "Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in video games, and we're back with a major release," said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. “We carry 20 years of history, and after taking a year to release this game, we're making the game we've always wanted to make.
We are listening to fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.” THE Ghost Games is a studio of EA in Sweden and who was responsible for the predecessor Need for Speed Rivals.
It is worth remembering that Need for Speed: Underground, from 2003, was also a reboot of the series, and ushered in open-world gameplay. The commercial success was fantastic – 15 million copies sold. In sequence, Need for Speed: Underground 2 sold 4 million copies. The entire franchise sold more than 140 million copies and a film in 2014 that yielded 203 million U.S. $ worldwide, which already has a sequel on the way.
The game will be powered by the car community itself. EA, the website speed Hunters. The aim is to re-enter the street racing culture, immersing yourself in “the rich world of past, present and emerging trends in the urban car scene”, according to the announcement by EA.
The car culture site will collaborate on the game's research and development, trying to give the title a beautiful level of detail and authenticity. The original games in the series are not known for being realistic racing simulators, but rather arcade fun, but competition with Forza Motorsport and others can lead the franchise to try to be more serious, as in Need for Speed: Shift e shift 2 – who also had support from the speed Hunters. According to the site's post, the new game has been in development for 18 months.
The first official trailer comes out on June 15th. Need for Speed will have a worldwide release at the end of this year for PC, available from the online store of EA, Origin, and for the consoles PlayStation 4 e Xbox One. See the teaser below and a gallery with all the images after the video!
