The last edition of Worlds took place in 2022 at North America, in two different countries, Mexico e United States, Ea LOUD, last year's Brazilian representative, only played in the Entry Phase, in Mexico City. Despite not having achieved the long-awaited Group Stage, where no team has ever reached, the team had its campaign, considered by many, as the best Brazilian campaign in history, accumulating three victories. The team even won a few games in the play-in phase, but ended up falling in their first Best of Five series against the Japanese team Detonation FocusMe (DFM).

O Chase Center Arena em San Francisco was the stage chosen to celebrate the grand final. It was there where the XRD, a South Korean organization, became the great champion of the tournament, winning, at the time, the very traditional T1 of three-time world champion Faker, one of the greatest players of all time, in an electrifying series with a score of 3-2. Worlds 2023 format

Worlds 2023 is back this year with a new format, with focus on Best of 3 series (MD3) and best of 5 (MD5), leaving aside the Best of 1 (MD1) games. This year's World Cup will feature 22 teams from various parts of the world who will compete in three phases: the Entry Phase, Swiss Stage and Knockout Stage.

Entry Phase (October 10th to 15th)

The entry phase will feature eight teams and will give two places for the Swiss phase / image: riot games

A Entry Phase will feature the first and second placed VCS (Vietnam) and PCS (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast Asia), as well as the first placed in ALL (Latin America), CBLOL (Brazil) and LJL (Japan). Along with them, we will also have the champion of the qualifier among the fourth place in the LCS (North America) and LEC (Europe).

Those eight teams will be drawn in two groups, where the phase will be double elimination. This means that a team will need to lose two best-of-three series to be eliminated from the competition. The team defeated in the so-called 'upper bracket' will have a second chance in the 'lower bracket', which gives the opportunity to continue advancing in the championship even after an initial defeat.

The two best-placed teams in each group will face the second-best-placed team in the opposite group in a best-of-five series, where their place in the Swiss Stage will be at stake.

In this Swiss format, the two teams that came from the Entry Phase will join the other three best teams in the LEC (Europe) and LCS (North America), in addition to the four best teams in LCK (South Korea) and LPL (China). In total, they will be 16 teams competing in the tournament.

Initially, these 16 teams will be distributed into eight best-of-one matches (MD1) based on your ranking or draw. After the first round of games, a new draw will be held based on each team's wins and losses. This means that teams with similar results will be paired with each other.

This draw stage will be repeated three more times, always ensuring that teams with similar performances will face each other. This continues until teams reach a total of three defeats and are eliminated of the competition or until accumulate three victories to advance to Knockout Stage.

The hallmark of all LoL Worlds are the Worlds songs, created exclusively for the event, and they always become memorable for those who watch the tournament. To date, there have been twelve world championships and, since 2014, it has become a tradition in the competition to present a theme song made by great artists. Each song receives an animated video produced by Riot, full of references to professional players and game elements. Additionally, each of the songs is performed live in the tournament's grand final, creating memorable ceremonies.

This year, it was no different. In the early hours of last Wednesday, the day October 4, Riot Games released the Worlds 2023 theme song. Titled “GOD“, the song is a collaboration with female K-pop group New Jeans, made up of five members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin e Hyei.

The music video features animation full of action and references to the LoL scenario, even featuring the appearance of Brazilian player Andrey 'Come on', sniper from the FURY. However, the main story focuses on the trajectory of Deft, the South Korean sniper from Dplus KIA, from the time he started playing the game in high school until the 2022 World Cup, when he became world champion by defeating T1 de Faker, one of the best teams in the world.
